Chapter 20: Chapter 20: Devil Maid (3)
The next day, Grayfia finally saw her target—Serafall, the Leviathan, walking alongside a teenage human. The young man stood out, his physique well-maintained, his short black hair spiked up in a modern fashion. There was a certain aura around him—a confidence in his stride that didn't come from arrogance, but from something else, something Grayfia couldn't quite place.
From the looks of it, Serafall had played a role in his appearance, possibly giving him the advice on how to style his hair. Grayfia's keen senses noted that the Leviathan seemed pleased with how the young man looked now.
'She's definitely in love with him,' Grayfia thought with a mix of fascination and surprise. 'But how did he manage to capture the heart of someone like Serafall? She's the most powerful and influential of the Satans, and yet here she is, pretending to be a schoolgirl to spend time with him…'
Grayfia's curiosity was piqued. Countless pureblood devils had attempted to court Serafall, but none had ever gotten close to her in the way this human had. She had always maintained a professional distance, never allowing anyone to see her vulnerable side. Yet here was this teenager—someone from a small town in Church-controlled territory no less—managing to make Serafall not only soften her demeanor but completely change her lifestyle to fit into his world. Grayfia couldn't help but be intrigued by this unprecedented event.
The silver-haired queen of Lucifer had half a mind to follow them for a while, but her professional instincts kicked in, and she waited until the school day ended. She then quietly tracked them to the young man's house. The duo spent a considerable amount of time outdoors, sharing moments of affection: laughing, kissing, and cuddling. If Grayfia hadn't known just how deadly Serafall was in battle, or how powerful her ice magic could be, she would have easily believed that the devil was just another lovesick schoolgirl. It was a side of Serafall Grayfia had never seen before, and it left her stunned.
Eventually, after hours of observation, Grayfia finally followed the pair to their destination: the young man's house. It was a modest two-story structure, unremarkable but now shrouded in an unsettling feeling.
Grayfia rang the doorbell, preparing herself for whatever might come next. However, as soon as she stepped onto the property, something extraordinary happened. She felt her magic completely cut off from her.
Cold sweat began to form on her forehead as her eyes darted around, trying to understand what had just occurred. Her magic—the very essence of her power—refused to obey her commands.
'What is this?!'
Before she could react, a voice called out from behind her.
"I'm sorry, Grayfia... You shouldn't have tried to track me down."
Grayfia spun around, but before she could say anything, everything went black, and her consciousness faded away.
Marcus's Workshop
"I wasn't expecting Sirzechs to send his Queen after me like that," Serafall remarked, her voice sounding amused but with an edge of concern.
"So she is the strongest Queen and the rival to your title?" Marcus asked, his tone casual, as he looked over at Serafall.
Serafall nodded, her expression conflicted. "She was my rival. But I won, and she chose to remain as Sirzechs' Queen and his maid."
Marcus raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. "Maid? As in a real maid? Not his wife?"
"No, not his wife," Serafall said, slightly annoyed. "The council didn't want the current Lucifer to marry a servant of the previous Lucifer. Instead, they allowed him to have her as his Queen for legitimacy, as no Lucifer should be without a Lucifuge to serve him."
Marcus scoffed, "This council has a lot of influence, huh? Sounds like a constitutional monarchy of some sort, full of politicians meddling in royal affairs."
"Exactly. They're ruled by Zekram Bael, the first generation Devil and Great King. He's the one really running the Underworld. Sirzechs, despite his power, has to tread carefully around him."
Marcus leaned back, a thoughtful look on his face. "So he's the old king, pulling the strings behind the scenes."
"Precisely," Serafall confirmed.
Marcus asked her. "So, what am I supposed to do with her now?"
Serafall raised an eyebrow, "Ars Goetia doesn't work on her, you know."
Marcus nodded slowly, his eyes narrowing with a calculating look. "I've already thought about that. I'll just have to make my own version of Ars Goetia. Since she's from Lucifer's house, the binding will be even stronger."
In less than five minutes, Marcus had crafted a new version of the spell, his fingers moving quickly over his work. When he was done, he turned to Serafall.
"Take her to the summoning room," he instructed.
Serafall, clearly shocked, hesitated. "How easy is it for you to bind devils like this? Is it really that simple?"
"Once I reinvented Ars Goetia, the hardest part was over," Marcus replied with a shrug. "I could bind devils, gods, anyone, if I wanted. If I apply it properly, I could even enslave gods."
Serafall went pale at the implications. "You're terrifying."
Marcus chuckled. "That's why you're on my side."
"Let's get this over with. I still have guns to design."
"Guns?" Serafall asked, her voice tinged with disbelief.
"Yeah," Marcus said with a grin. "It's going to be a pair. I can't wait to finish them!"
