Chapter 8: A New God Of The Forge In DC 2

(Third Person POV:)

Dying was an interesting experience for Lee as while he fell into the darkness, he began to hear a growing sound in the void he found himself. The sound grew louder and louder, yet it did not grate on the ears; instead, it became grander and more beautiful.

As Lee opened his "eyes" to find where the sound was coming from, he found himself amidst nebulas and forming stars upon an anvil formed by galaxies. Upon taking in his surroundings, Lee looked to where the sound originated and saw a being made of pure energy, holding a hammer that looked as strong as it was intricate. In fact, simply looking at the man and his forging tools was beginning to cause him great pain in his mind and soul.

But Lee felt nothing as he was too enraptured by the beauty of creation that was being shown to him, yet after what seemed like hours, the being finally stopped and looked directly at Lee but also through him, examining his entire life. From his past to his present to his future, and as the monolithic Titan reached his hand to grasp the man, Lee was simply stuck as his attempts to move remained futile in the being's presence.

The Titan, grabbing him in his palm, looks at Lee with an unreadable expression as his or her face could not even be considered humanoid but a large amount of clashing stars in the form of a face.

"I was not expecting a visitor for a long time." The being said without having a mouth, his voice filled the entire universe they were in, but his voice was like listening to a grand orchestra magnified by a thousand. Lee is awestruck by the pure presence of this being, as the forge master simply stated, "It has been a long time since one has found themselves here, but the stronger will has always eluded me even now."

The being moves Lee towards his face, and seeing the very universe unfolding before him, all that Lee could muster was, "What are you?" The being, not surprised by the question, says, "I am a being that has existed since time was still a new concept, when death was but a nightmare and light and dark had not yet manifested. But my story matters not as I am content forging my creations. As I assume you find this sentiment similar to your own."

Lee could only nod in his soul form as the Titan continued, "The beauty in creation is beyond compare, and while some would argue creation must be formed from destruction while true in some biological form, it only grasped the true meaning." As he says this, the Titan grasps a small moon in his hands and destroys it, yet from this, he forms a new planet.

"I need not destroy my creation to create new ones. I am only enacting my will upon Reality, but most would assume a balance is needed between creation and destruction, as unruly creation leads to stagnation, and stagnation leads to conflict. but too much destruction leads to silence, and silence leads to nothing." The Titan then places Lee down on the anvil and grasps his celestial hammer.

"I was not expecting a new wielder of the forge for a long time. All I ask is that wherever you end up, your soul fuels your creation until the end when the final creation goes dark, and a new future is needed." The Titan then slammed the hammer straight onto Lee, and Lee could feel the energies entering his very being, coalescing into a form that he could not recognize.

His soul then shoots from the anvil. As the Titan returns to his work, he watches the soul exit his realm to a universe unknown, yet the tian forges on unabated by the previous conversation. Only the sound of the hammer filling the realm can be heard as Lee's soul is sent to realms unknown.

Lee M. Russ POV:

Time and talent define a creator as without time, one could not truly enact a vision, and without talent, one could not create recognizable wonders, and what just occurred truly reminded me of that. That is having eons to plan and create and the ability to forge anything he desires, from the smallest of baubles to great creations that could fill universes.

The feeling of my soul rocketing to places unknown was not exactly pleasant as it felt like being forced into a tube and sent through it with various bumps and jumps abound the path. But during the trip, the energy given by that Titan permeated my being with what looked like three vials, with the first making me seem invincible, the second making me feel boundless, and the last causing me to hear that same sound I heard from the forge.

Then, three stars formed within me, yet I could not even react to them as I felt squished into something or someone. As I opened my eyes, I saw a beautiful woman holding me in her arms, but the beauty did not match the expression.

As I saw her face, I felt unsafe, to say the least, but I could not even speak in words. So, as I struggled to say anything, the woman glared at me and said, "I will never fathom how such an ugly thing came from me, but it does not matter. This shame must be hidden, but how?"

The woman then looks to the nearby window, and it all comes together. I immediately attempt to move from the woman's arms, yet she remains firm, and I look her in the eyes as she holds me over the edge of the window; she looks at me and says, "You should never have existed now begone from my sight just like the first."

The woman then lets go, and I begin to fall and fall and fall for miles on end. As the clouds give way to my descent, I can understand that I am going to hit the ground, and assuming I am who I think I am, I focus on my power, and while untrained is still mine! So, controlling the friction and momentum of my descent, I slow the fall to the point where it will hurt but not kill me or permanently harm me.

So, doing all I could, I felt my back impacting the sea of the Mediterranean, and all I could feel was pain. The best way I could describe it is trying to belly-flop into a pool on your back at tens of miles an hour. To put it more simply, it hurt more than realizing your Dad went to get milk and will never come back.

And so my journey begins in the middle of the sea, floating to the bottom, yet as I lost consciousness, I feel another pair of arms grab me and begin to swim away.

(Third Person POV:)

The Sintians were curious folk as many likened them to mermaids and naiads, with the more critical to fish who sought anything new or shiny. But such comments meant nothing to them as such rumors and tales lasted only years, which they lived centuries.

Ruled or at least overseen by the sea goddesses Eurynome and Thetis, they lived simple lives and forged simple works in their volcano on Lemnos. All that they needed they had, but their innate curiosity was there, and thus, many often roamed the sea near their island in search of new things, and today was no different.

Thetis often went farther than most as the mortals would often leave tributes for her to let them pass her island unabated, but today was different as it was not tribute that was found but a newborn babe barely older than a day. Floating in the sea, a child simply existed, yet his very presence heated the water near him, causing it to bubble and froth about.

But her being a goddess and no stranger to hot temperatures, she swam over to the baby and looked at him and immediately knew that he was a god from where unknown, but a god nonetheless. Many thoughts ran through her mind as she was trepidatious about taking care of this child as taking care of it may lead to catastrophe for her people.

For what Thetis knew, there were few who could so carelessly throw away a child, and those few were rather powerful. But as she looked at the child in the eyes before he fell asleep, she knew that she could not do so as she felt that his story would be great and thus, in a split-second decision, she grabbed him and swam back to Lemnos to inform Eurynome of this development.

But as she held the child close, the heat he emanated decreased to a more warm and fuzzy feeling, and Thetis smiled, knowing she made the right choice. For better or ill, this child is now entwined with this place, and her curiosity was spiking on the child's development.

(Lee M. Russ POV:)

Being able to breathe or not breathe but exist underwater is interesting. While he may be a god, now he was a human, so as he tried to breathe in and out as he awoke, he breathed in water yet felt no air.

But instead of drowning, the water simply disappeared as it entered his mouth. After somewhat getting used to this, I heard two voices enter the cave, both of which sounded clear yet welcoming even though they should have sounded like unintelligible noise.

"Sister, what is it you wish to show me? Spit it out, as I know you would tell me of it unless you did something wrong." One of the women said, and as she entered in, I saw that her black hair and flowing blue dress stopped in its place as she saw me. But before I could make a noise, the woman asked her sister. "Thetis, I mean this in the most polite way possible. Did you steal this godchild?"

Thetis then chuckled as she saw the look on her sister's face but not before saying in a nonchalant tone, "Don't worry, sister Eurynome, I found him floating to the bottom of the sea near our Island, and if anyone were to throw their child into the sea, I believe they are unwanted, to say the least."

The other woman, Eurynome, then said in a higher tone of voice, "Thetis, that is even worse as whoever throws this child into the sea most likely does not want it to live. Do you not fear bringing the wrath of whomever through this child into the sea?"

Thetis, looking at her nails, just says back, "You and I both know that those Gods high above their Mountain will never look into the sea other than that being Poseidon, and even he may be busy with some Priestess." Eurynome then sighs and asks, "Sister, do you even know his name?" The woman then perks up smi, les, and says, "In fact, sister, I do not, so let us come up with one!"

The two then began to discuss names with me, simply in shock, but before they could name me something like Titus or Malgus, I used my power to heat up the cave wall to form one word.

"Hephaestus."

Seeing this, the two women swam over to me, and Thetis said, "So you know your own name, huh? Well then, Hephestus it is then. It seems fitting, right, Eury?" The other woman then nods, saying, "Yes, it is, but can he understand us?" The question then causes the two women to stare very intently at me, and as I somehow begin to sweat underwater, all I can think is, "I think I am very much in danger."
