Multiverse Academy with a Naughty System

Chapter 21: Chapter 21 - Carriage

After Basara returned to the room, everyone asked what had made the teacher teleport everyone but him. He then explained what had happened in a few words, without feeling the need to hide it, because he knew that, in a few hours, everyone would find out anyway.

"Basara-san, so you signed the contract with that ancient demon?" asked one of his colleagues.

"Yes, I did," he replied.

"And how did you do that?" someone else asked.

"She needed me to make a request to her so that she could get rid of it. So I asked her to be my familiar."

"What? That simple?!"

"..."

During the following lessons, Basara's classmates continued to pepper him with questions, but he refused to answer most of them. When they crossed the line, he gave them cold stares, and so the barrage of questions stopped.

He already knew, even before he explained what had happened, that rumors would spread. And the proof that he was right came at lunchtime.

In the cafeteria, Basara was walking alone, since Moka was having lunch with her classmates, when he passed a group of girls and heard them whispering to each other:

"Is that the boy everyone's talking about?"

"Yes, Basara Toujou is his name. Apparently, he bought a book with a forbidden summoning ritual and summoned an ancient she-devil during class."

"Eh? How reckless."

"Yes, it could have ended badly if Professor Glenn hadn't been there to restrain the demon."

"And what happened then?"

"Rumors are circulating: Toujou-san confessed to transforming the ancestral she-devil into a familiar."

"An ancestral she-devil as a familiar? That's very dangerous. Why is he still at school?"

It was comments like these that Basara had to listen to all day. People murmured so quietly, as if they feared he would release the Vermeil, that an ordinary person wouldn't usually hear, but he could hear, with his six senses more trained than those of ordinary people.

However, Basara didn't care what the rumors said or what distortions might arise. For him, paying attention to trivial things said by people he didn't care about would keep him stuck in the same place, and to defeat that faceless man, he couldn't afford it.

In the middle of the afternoon, after classes had finished, Basara was walking towards the exit with his rudimentary leather bag slung over his shoulder. Suddenly, he heard a female voice calling out to him:

"Basara-kun! Hey! Basara-kun!"

Everyone watched as Moka called out to him and ran towards him. He realized that she had been following him since they left the classroom, but he didn't want her to be seen with him while the rumors were still circulating. He tried to throw her off and thought he had succeeded, but...

"Basara-kun!!!"

He couldn't ignore her any longer and turned around, watching as she approached, while the surrounding people murmured among themselves.

When she finally reached him, Moka put her hands on her thighs and took a few seconds to catch her breath. Then she took a deep breath, raised her head and said:

"Basara-kun, why didn't you wait for me?"

Basara scratched the back of his head. "Well, I didn't see you."

Moka's cheeks puffed out, and his eyebrows lowered in a clear expression of anger. "Don't say that, because I know very well when you're lying. Have you forgotten that we're connected?" She put one hand on her chest as she leaned forward. "I can hear your blood flow, and when your heart beats faster, it's a clear sign that you're lying."

Basara didn't know where to look or what to say. Luckily, Moka wasn't someone who liked to get angry, so she sighed and said:

"Anyway, shall we leave together? I talked to my butler yesterday, and we can go a little out of the way to take you home." She wrapped her arm around Basara's left arm and started walking with him towards the exit.

"What? Are you sure everything's all right?" he asked, surprised.

"Of course. If my butler let me, there's no problem."

As they left the World Magic Academy, the same luxurious carriage as the day before was already waiting for them. The coachman was an elderly man who emanated an aura of austerity. Despite his white hair and pale skin, he seemed perfectly capable of anything Moka needed. As soon as he spotted Moka, he climbed down from the coachman's seat and opened the door.

"Good luck, Miss Akashiya." He bowed almost completely.

"Ah, Bart! You've known me and looked after me since I was just a baby. How many times have I told you that you don't have to not call me by name just because we're in the presence of someone who isn't family?"

"But Miss..."

"Bart..."

"Okay, Moka. I'm sorry about that."

"There's no need to apologize, Bart. By the way, this is the boy I told you and my parents about yesterday." She pointed to Basara, who was standing to her left. "Basara Toujou, this is my butler, Bartholomew."

Bartholomew straightened his spine and looked at Basara, staring at him with a serious expression. His eyes, tremendously dark, for an instant, threatened to throw Basara into an abyss of endless darkness. Basara realized that this was some kind of magic and released some of his mana, which interrupted the brief trance-like state.

Bartholomew smiled with the corner of his mouth and held out his right hand. "It's a pleasure to meet my dear Moka's first man."

"The pleasure is..." Basara was returning the formal greeting when he realized the double entendre. "Moka! What did you tell him?"

Moka put both hands around her chin, blushing and wiggling her waist slightly. "I told him and my parents everything we did while we were stuck in the sports warehouse~."

"WHAT?! But we didn't..."

At that moment, Basara felt Bartholomew's grip becoming stronger and stronger, quickly reaching a level of strength that an ordinary human could achieve. Of course, having worked for the Akashiya for over a century, Bartholomew was not human, but a second-class vampire.

"And to think that on Moka's very first day at school, a human boy already took advantage of her innocence..." Bartholomew's voice became increasingly harsh as he spoke.
