Multiverse Academy with a Naughty System

Chapter 2: Chapter 2 - Acromic

"World Academy of Magic?"

No, that wasn't right. That was definitely not his world. Where exactly had they ended up?

"Dad, this isn't our world. There's something wrong." Basara said as he approached Jin.

It was then that he realized that Jin's mouth had stopped ajar, and the sounds — all of them, from the noise of carts passing outside to the ordinary noises of a house — had disappeared. Strangely, even the smoke coming from his father's coffee cup was still. Time had stopped.

Basara looked around and saw the world around him gradually fading. The colors drained away, like paint washed away by rain. The blue of the sky, the green of the trees, even the pale hue of the walls. In a matter of seconds, everything around them became a pale, lifeless world. And then, amidst that discolored void, only he retained his color.

Soon, something emerged from the wall to his right. It was a whitish silhouette with no definition. Basara was paralyzed, unable to react or move. The thing had a bizarre and inhuman appearance. It had no eyes, mouth or nose; just a smooth, pale face, like that of a store mannequin, with articulated arms and legs, resembling an ordinary person. After emerging from the wall, the creature stood up, stared at him and, to Basara's complete surprise, laughed.

"Ah, Basara, that expression... it's hilarious! You really do not know, do you?"

"You..." Immediately, Basara tried to summon his demonic sword and advance. However, as the greenish light emanated from the back of his hand, that mysterious being snapped his fingers. The snap meant that Basara could no longer summon his sword and locked his legs in place.

"Ah, Basara. Let's go slowly." The creature said, nodding condescendingly and spreading its arms. "I'm not your enemy... but I'm not your friend, either."

"What does that mean?"

In the blink of an eye, the creature disappeared from his vision and reappeared behind him. "You see, I'm an... entertainment enthusiast. And that's why I brought you here." He said, slipping one of his arms behind Basara's shoulders.

'Me? For entertainment?' Basara thought.

The strange world, the distortion of time, his own powerlessness... This being, whether man, woman, or anything else, was extremely powerful.

"All right. Whatever it is, I'll collaborate with you, but first explain to me who you are." Basara said.

"Hmm... It's hard to describe myself, but imagine me as an observer of worlds with a thirst for novelty. I'm someone simple. If I need stimuli and don't have any, I try to create them."

Basara tried to pull his shoulder away, but the creature held on tight, as if that touch was vital to the conversation.

"Stimuli, eh?" Basara's voice sounded bitter, disdainful.

The silhouette let out a low laugh. "You see? It's because of this personality of yours that you're a perfect choice. You're in a completely different world from your original one and facing someone with an immeasurable amount of capabilities, and yet you show no fear."

"Yo said 'perfect choice'... Perfect for what, exactly?"

Finally, the creature moved away a little, taking a few steps around Basara and freeing its legs, as if it knew he wouldn't try to attack it.

"Oh, Basara Toujou, let's just say I'm looking forward to seeing how you behave in a situation where the barriers between the worlds... have dissolved."

Suddenly, he snapped her fingers, and the surrounding environment transformed. In the blink of an eye, they were in a kind of ancient coliseum, but the sky above was a deep purple. There were planets hanging over the horizon, as if they were so close that Basara could touch them.

"These are the worlds I find most entertaining, Basara. Worlds other than your own, where you and those you love don't even exist, but which, coincidentally, have rules very similar to your own. Now imagine if someone played around with these worlds a bit and unite them. Wouldn't it be a big mess? Of course, it would! Only at the beginning, though." The creature gestured with his arms, placing his hand on his chin, then opening them and so on. "The universal laws created long before my birth create order in chaos, and chaos in order. It's a cycle. So I thought about what would happen if I assembled multiple worlds on a single planet, and the result, well, you can see for yourself."

Suddenly, Basara found himself back in that faded dining room, where Jin stood frozen in time. The strange being pointed to the kitchen window, showing a cart that must have been being pulled by a giant lizard.

"Isn't it wonderful, Basara? You'd never be able to see this in your world!"

"Let me get this straight..." Basara put one arm over the other and raised his head. "You brought me here just to make me take part in a grim joke, bringing together worlds that should never mix? Do you think that's fun?"

He smiled. "It's more than fun, Basara. For me, it's exciting. But don't worry, I think you'll do just fine here. After all, the mess is where you flourish."

"I don't see any fun in that." Basara retorted, trying to control the anger that was building up in his voice. "If you really want to have fun, why don't you leave me out of it and find another bastard to disturb?"

The creature laughed, but this time the sound was rougher, as if it was getting less excited. "Don't talk like that... you're the great protagonist of this world now. I couldn't find a replacement for you. However, if you really want everything to go back to normal, I'll give you the chance to do so. You just need to do one thing."

Basara frowned and narrowed his eyes as he stared at him. "And what would that one thing be?"

"You must defeat me in a one-on-one battle."

His mind whirred as he processed what he had just heard. Basara was stronger than ordinary people, but he had the humility to understand that he wasn't invincible. So how could he, Basara Toujou, face a being that shaped worlds with the same ease as he wielded his sword?

The being, however, seemed to read him like an open book before Basara even answered. It laughed, a slow, cutting laugh, before extending a hand towards him. In the center of his palm was a glowing orb, which twinkled like a distant star.

"I know my proposal seems unfair, Basara, but to make things more interesting, I'm going to grant you an ability. Accept it. It's something you would have eventually, but only in the final moments of your life. I'm just advancing the process a little."

The orb floated out of his palm and approached Basara, slowly, as if inviting him to touch it. He hesitated before touching it, of course. Jin had always taught him not to accept anything strange, but what choice did he have?

Basara raised his right hand, and the orb descended gently into his palm. The touch was warm, almost comforting. As soon as his fingers wrapped around it, the orb dissolved into a light that merged with his skin, radiating throughout his body. In an instant, a transparent window appeared before his eyes, floating like a hologram.

[Central skill "Naughty System" has been unlocked].

"What's it?" Basara asked.

"Ah, these visual representations are common in many worlds. They'll help you better understand what you can do."

"That's not what I'm talking about. I know what a system is. I've played video games before." Basara retorted, still frowning as he examined the window. "Why 'Naughty'? What the hell does that mean?"

The creature's harsh laughter reverberated once again. And then, just as Basara was about to press it for answers, it disappeared. In an instant, the room regained its color. Time seemed to unfold again, and the sounds, the movements, everything around began to return to its natural state.

The smoke in Jin's coffee cup rose again, as if nothing had happened.

Jin blinked a few times and finally looked at him with a confused expression on his face. "What happened? It felt like you were... away for a moment."

Basara looked at him, trying to gather his thoughts. What was he supposed to say? How could he explain something that even he couldn't fully understand?

Well, Jin would obviously be useful for helping in the mission to defeat that entity, but Basara could almost hear that laugh again. If he told his father everything and that being concluded that he was getting in the way of his entertainment show, it could be the end of them both. So it was best to follow his script a little.

"Oh, I took a step back. By the way, you told me about the magic academy, but I wasn't paying much attention when we talked about it. What do you know about this place?"

Jin leaned back in his chair, relaxing as if the interruption had never happened.

"The World Magic Academy..." He clicked his tongue as he thought. "Look, I have to be honest, this place isn't like any other school you've ever seen, Basara. There, even what we call 'normal' isn't exactly standard. There are clans of demons, vampires, fallen angels and every kind of creature you can imagine. Even human adventurers and nobles. It's a place where power and influence are the currency. For example, there you'll meet the daughter of the current Demon King, Naruse Mio, and also the younger sister of the Lord of the Underworld, Rias Gremory. If you stay out of trouble and..."

"Naruse Mio?" Basara interrupted Jin.

"Well, well~ Looks like someone here already has a target. I never thought you'd be the type to like demon girls, Basara. I can understand you, though." Jin said, opening and closing his hands near his breasts in a suggestive motion.
