Chapter 28: 028 - A Fool’s Courage
Souta immediately understood the meaning behind her gaze.
So he sighed and explained—
"I'm not giving you my life."
"I never told you this, but…"
He smirked slightly.
"I have an immortal body."
"Even if you drink all my blood—
Even if you eat my heart—
I still won't die."
"Even if I turn into a vampire, I can always turn back."
"So it's fine."
Kiss-Shot's expression froze.
Then, her brows furrowed.
"…Immortal body?"
Her mind felt like it was lagging behind.
"But… thou said thou wert a mere human?"
"I am."
Souta nodded casually.
"I mean, yeah, I'm immortal and have superpowers—
But I'm still just an ordinary guy."
"..."
Kiss-Shot fell silent.
She…
She did not understand.
She stared at him.
Was he delusional?
Or did he simply have a fundamentally different understanding of what an 'ordinary human' was?
Souta saw her hesitation.
So he assumed she didn't believe him.
"Fine, I'll show you."
With a flick of his wrist—
Souta activated Half-Cold, Half-Burn.
He froze the moisture in the air, forming a sharp ice blade.
Then—
Without hesitation,
He sliced his left hand open.
Blood flowed.
A deep wound appeared.
But in just a few seconds—
It closed up.
Completely healed.
Not even a scar remained.
Kiss-Shot's eyes widened in shock.
She had been skeptical before.
But now…
She believed him.
"You... are indeed not simple."
A human could not do this.
Her golden eyes fell on his exposed neck.
She hesitated for a few seconds…
But in the end—
She gave in.
She was a suicidal vampire who came to Japan to end her life.
But now that death was right before her…
She could not accept it.
Was it the idea of being hunted down that she couldn't accept?
Or was it simply that, at the moment of death, she felt genuine fear?
Even she couldn't say for certain.
But one thing was clear—
She wanted to live.
That was her primal instinct.
However, her pride prevented her from harming this human who had willingly crossed worlds to help her.
Fortunately, Souta had proven his uniqueness, which eased her mental burden.
"Is it… truly okay?"
Nestled in Souta's arms, Kiss-Shot asked again—
As if seeking one final confirmation.
Souta nodded.
"It's fine. Hurry up and drink—your time is almost up."
Kiss-Shot cast aside her last bit of hesitation.
Her lips parted—
Her sharp vampiric fangs extended—
And she sank them into his soft neck.
The moment her fangs pierced his flesh—
Souta felt it.
His blood surged, as if responding to an ancient instinct.
A wave of fear crawled up his spine.
The next second—
His blood was no longer his own.
It rushed toward her.
In an instant—
Nearly five liters of blood was drained from his body.
And unlike before—
It didn't return.
Souta's face turned deathly pale.
His lips darkened, taking on a sickly hue.
His body shrank, his limbs weakened, and his head grew heavy and dizzy—
Like a tiny boat, caught in a raging storm, struggling to stay afloat.
Any normal person would have been long dead by now.
But Souta held on.
He remained trapped in the miserable state of a man drained dry—but alive nonetheless.
However, his suffering didn't last long.
Because the moment his blood was fully drained—
A terrifying transformation began.
The "curse" of vampirism had awakened.
"This…?"
A look of shock flashed across Souta's pale face.
Something was wrong.
Something he hadn't anticipated.
His body—
Undergoing its second transformation since drinking the Elixir of Immortality—
But unlike before…
This transformation was not gentle.
It was—
Violent.
It was a change at the species level.
A complete metamorphosis.
Souta didn't even have time to call upon the system to undo it.
Within seconds—
He was overwhelmed by dizziness.
And then—
He blacked out.
His plan had a flaw.
He had underestimated just how violent this transformation would be.
"Shit… will Kiss-Shot… eat me?"
That was his last thought—
Before his consciousness slipped away.
When Souta woke up…
He found himself lying on the floor of an abandoned building.
The windows were boarded up.
Thick wooden planks had been nailed over them, blocking out the outside world.
The ceiling light—
Its glass tube shattered, leaving only broken remains hanging overhead.
"..."
Souta shook his head—
His mind hazy.
Then—
He sighed in relief.
He was still alive.
Kiss-Shot hadn't eaten him.
"Looks like she viewed drinking my blood as a 'bonding act'…
Rather than… a meal."
A wave of relief washed over him.
For the first time since arriving in this world, he felt like he could relax.
Now that he had calmed down—
He finally took in his surroundings.
The floor beneath him was covered in cracked linoleum, cool to the touch.
Souta slowly turned his head, scanning the room.
Then—
His gaze landed on the front wall.
There was something familiar about it.
A blackboard?
A classroom?
The room was filled with desks and chairs.
It looked like an old, abandoned school.
And yet…
Despite the sealed windows—
Despite the fact that not a single ray of sunlight entered the room—
He could still see perfectly.
Wait.
Something wasn't right.
"It's pitch black in here… but I can still see?"
Normally—
Without light, the human eye shouldn't be able to perceive anything.
And yet—
Everything around him was clear as day.
"…Did I get night vision?"
Souta froze.
A strange realization hit him.
"…Did I actually turn into a vampire?"
The vampires of this world had a very specific weakness.
They weren't just weak to sunlight—
They were completely helpless against it.
"Wait… how does vampire night vision even work?"
"There's no light reflection—so how am I seeing?"
"Is it like echolocation? Like bats?"
His mind was racing.
His thoughts drifting.
He wasn't panicking about his species changing.
Instead—
He was curious about the science behind night vision.
That, in itself, was proof of how chaotic his mind was.
Souta snapped out of his thoughts.
And then—
He called out.
"Kiss-Shot?"
If he was still alive—
That meant she was the one who had carried him here.
But—
Just as he opened his mouth to speak—
A sharp pain shot through his jaw.
He seemed to have accidentally bitten the inside of his mouth.
'Damn… are my canines really this long now?
Being a vampire is way too inconvenient!'
Souta couldn't help but complain in his mind.
He tried touching his fangs—
But when he lifted his arm, it felt heavy.
It didn't move immediately.
Souta turned his head—
And finally understood his current situation.
Lying beside him—
Resting her delicate head on his right arm as a pillow—
Was a small girl with short golden hair and astonishingly beautiful features.
Her soft breathing filled the air, peaceful and undisturbed.
