Mr. Billionaire's Second Chance Bride

Chapter 14: The Beginning Of Risks

Zephyrine sneered, what does the look in his eyes mean? Zephyrine was no longer a kid to fall for a trick from him. She comfortably stood up from his lap and folded her arm across her chest. She arches up her brow, "Don't play with me."

She turned to her heels and walked out of the bedroom leaving Kendrick in the room groaning in pain. Where could she be off again? She just returned but she was leaving again without saying anything.

He would have run after her to ask her but he needed to take care of himself first.

Zephyrine sighed in relief the moment she got into the car. Her face flushed red as well as her ears, luckily she was able to escape from him before something happened between them. With the look of the situation, it didn't seem like Zephyrine would risk sleeping in the same bed as him. But where could she sleep in the house without the man knowing?

Zephyrine saw the looks of desire in his eyes and she knew how much of a beast a can can turn into if not satisfied. But she was not ready mentally and physically for that. Anything could happen at that moment of pleasure.

Without having another thought, she kicked off the car and went out of the neighborhood. While she was driving on the road, her phone beeped, and her heart started beating frantically again as the previous scene replayed in her mind. There was no one else who could call her at this time of the night except for Kendrick. It had been some minutes and she hadn't returned inside, so that must be why he was calling.

She slowed down the speed of the car and then picked up her phone. To her surprise, it turned out to be her only comforter, the person she had never thought of. She nearly forgot that she had a friend, Jasmyn.

What the heck! Zephyrine stopped the car in order to avoid getting into an accident.

"Hey girl, where the heck are you? I just got back to the country and I got the news that you got married. You are such a betrayal, get back here before I cut off your leg."

Zephyrine shook her head and rolled her eyes uncontrollably at the same time. She resumed driving, "Why are you back early?" She knew that she wouldn't have peace again since her friend was back in the country.

Jasmyn's crazy voice came again, "Who in heaven's name did you get married to?!"

Zephyrine couldn't figure out why she was making a mountain out of a molehill. And how did she get the news the moment she arrived in the country? Did the news travel so far?

"You need to calm your crazy heart, just some random man. He is handsome and rich,"

If only Zephyrine knew how crazy Jasmyn was hearing the time she used to describe the man. Jasmyn felt like hitting her head against Zephyrine maybe it would help reset her brain. Even Jasmyn who just arrived knew that she didn't marry any ordinary man. Jasmyn would have thought that Zephyrine was playing games on her by acting innocent, but she knew for a fact that she wasn't acting.

"The Kendrick Desjardins I know is not just some ordinary kind man. He is the most terrifying man alive on earth, people would even fear to take the name of the man."

Jasmyn's words add a bit of fear to Zephyrine's heart. Was she hearing wrongly? Was she telling her that she had been living with a dragon king all this while? Jasmyn's word carried extra weight to the name of the man. Zephyrine was somewhat afraid to call the name of the man in her mind.

Both ends were quiet for a while as Zephyrine tried to navigate the news that just come to her.

"Jasmyn, did the name suddenly sound strange to you?" Jasmyn teased her on the phone, breaking the silence. But truly she was right, the name sounded strange to Zephyrine.

Zephyrine shook off the unease, attempting to change the subject. She would need a proper moment to think of it and decide how to live.

"Hey, where are you staying tonight? I was thinking of joining you. It's been a long time, you know, just to catch up."

"Will your husband release you? I don't want to be the third party between you," Why is Jasmyn talking as she was close to the man?

Zephyrine gritted her teeth, enough with the talks about Kendrick. "Are you going to listen to me or do you need me to set you up with your old uncle?"

Jasmyn chuckled slightly. "I've booked a room at the Grand Plaza Hotel. But why do you want to join me? Do you have a quarrel with your hubby?"

"I think I should drop the idea of coming over," Zephyrine was honestly frustrated at this moment. But she should have expected that the moment she saw that the call was from Jasmyn. Wherever there is Jasmyn, there will never be peace in such a place. And up till this day, there has not been a person who could handle how irritating she is. She is always bent on bringing the devil out of a person.

"Come on," Jasmyn interrupted hurriedly before she cut the call. "Chill girl, but once you arrive you gonna have to tell me how everything has been. The wedding preparation to the wedding night—" Jasmyn kept going on and on with no sign of stopping.

Zephyrine kept driving while listening to her ranting, she wasn't paying more attention to her talk anymore. As she drove, she noticed a car following her. At first, she thought it was just her imagination, but the vehicle persisted, always behind a few vehicles.

"Jasmyn, hold a sec," Zephyrine said, her voice laced with concern.

As she drove, Zephyrine noticed a car following her. At first, she thought it was just her imagination, but the car persisted, always lurking a few vehicles behind.

"What's wrong?" Jasmyn asked, sensing the tension.

"That car...it's been following me," Zephyrine muttered, eyes fixed on the rearview mirror.

Jasmyn's tone turned serious. "Stay calm, Zephie. Try to lose them."

Zephyrine accelerated, weaving through traffic. The following car kept pace, the driver keeping sure to cover his face with a mask.

Suddenly, the car swerved, cutting off Zephyrine. She slammed on the brakes, but it was too late. The vehicles collided, and Zephyrine's head jerked forward, hitting the steering wheel.

Her vision blurred, and she groaned, still clutching the phone.

"Zephyrine! Zephie, answer me!" Jasmyn's panicked voice echoed through the line.

Zephyrine struggled to respond, her words slurred. "Ja…Jasmyn...help..."

The line went silent.

Jasmyn's heart racing, she frantically called out, "Zephyrine! Zephyrine, wake up!"

But only static filled the line.

Jasmyn knew something was terribly wrong.
