Mobile Suit Wars: Starting with Gundam OO

Chapter 18: Chapter 18: A Once Glorious Reputation, Gone!

Due to the military intervention of Celestial Being in Sri Lanka, Sergei was summoned back to Earth. He was the most formidable ace pilot currently serving in the Human Reform League, and all investigations and contacts with Gundam were inseparable from him.

"I've been waiting for you a long time, Colonel. How does space feel?" asked the aide who led the welcome for Sergei.

"Earth is still better; the refreshing gravity is delightful."

"I completely agree. Please follow me, Colonel; the Commander is already waiting for you." After saying this, the aide attempted to take the briefcase from Sergei's hand, but Sergei stopped him.

"Before that, I want to make a trip to Sri Lanka first."

"But if you do that…"

"I only believe what I see with my own eyes; the Commander will understand."

"Understood! I'll accompany you."

As expected, after reporting to the higher-ups, Sergei's unilateral decision was approved, and the group headed directly to Sri Lanka.

"Gundam, huh… Let me see your resolve with my own eyes," Sergei thought to himself.

Sergei was that kind of person; rather than understanding things through various reports, he trusted what he saw and felt firsthand.

His agreement to join the Celestial Being project as an observer and a sharpening stone was not due to being swayed by a sense of righteousness, but because he believed in Yang Hui. Yang Hui's countless "jokes" in the past had left those who doubted him with bruised faces. Growing up watching his younger brother, he believed he would never joke about such matters, and as an older brother, he naturally should support this righteous cause.

But… that was all there was to it.

He believed in Yang Hui, even trusted Sumeragi, who would be his future sister-in-law, and others like Professor Eifman, with whom he had some exchanges. However, he did not trust any of the other members of Celestial Being, including the Gundam Meisters.

He needed to confirm for himself whether the Gundam Meisters were truly burdened with evil and still steadfast in their will to reform the world, and to ascertain whether they had the capability to bear this heavy responsibility.

...

On the other side of the Earth, in the pitch-black night, at a high-end club, Wang Liu Mei was waiting for someone, and now, he had arrived.

"Soft drinks? The most recommended drink here is the signature cocktail."

Dressed in a neat orange-red suit, with her orange-red hair casually draped behind her, she exuded a sense of carefree yet rigorous elegance.

"But I don't like drinking," Wang Liu Mei replied with a feigned innocent expression.

"Oh, I apologize for my rudeness," the man said, placing a hand on his chest in apology.

Once the waiter left, Wang Liu Mei said to the man, "The third mission is about to begin. If you want to watch, I suggest preparing three screens."

"Wow~ I'm really looking forward to it. I'll watch it carefully then."

After exchanging a few more words, the man left with his entourage.

As they departed, the aide cast a meaningful glance at Wang Liu Mei, who returned a similar look.

"Miss." Hong Long approached Wang Liu Mei.

"What a hypocritical person. Hong Long, do you have any information on that person next to Mr. Kona?" Wang Liu Mei put away her hypocritical smile and asked.

Perhaps influenced by Yang Hui, the hypocritical smile that used to frequently appear on her face was gradually diminishing. Although she would only reveal her youthful nature around Yang Hui, in front of outsiders, she often wore a serious and solemn expression.

"None."

"Go check it out. That person gives me a dangerous feeling," Wang Liu Mei instructed.

"Understood."

Then the two left as well. She certainly wanted to watch the third mission, and Yang Hui had already set off. As long as it involved tasks within the Human Reform League's territory, he would go as the final assurance, and Wang Liu Mei naturally wouldn't miss Yang Hui's appearance.

"Alessandro Kona… Heh, what a pitiful person," Wang Liu Mei sneered as she looked out at the night scenery from the car.

...

Sergei arrived at the Human Reform League's base in Sri Lanka and began to understand the situation.

But as he had anticipated, he did not obtain any valuable intelligence; the entire battle was ravaged by Gundam, leaving not even a fragment behind.

"Truly tragic."

"Uh… I'm very sorry," the aide awkwardly apologized.

"It's not your fault. I'm just curious, is Gundam really that powerful?"

"Yes, Colonel. From the data collected during this military intervention, our Iron Man is completely no match for them. According to the Academy of Sciences' analysis, one Gundam is enough to rival a whole squad of Iron Men."

"Is that your own opinion?"

"No, this is…"

"Next time, take the opportunity to confirm with your own eyes. Blindly trusting data and intelligence can lead to an early demise," Sergei admonished.

"I understand, Colonel."

At that moment, the base alarm sounded again.

"What's going on?" Sergei immediately asked.

"Colonel, Gundam has appeared again, and one of them is coming this way."

"Gundam…"

"Colonel, what should we do now…" The aide asked Sergei, whose military rank as the highest commander of the base was only a major, one rank lower than Sergei. Coupled with Sergei's prestige in the Human Reform League military, he instinctively respected Sergei's orders.

"Hmm… Order the base personnel to begin retreating. Engaging it with our current military strength will only lead to losses."

"Understood!"

"Wait."

"Do you have any further instructions?"

"Do we have any spare Iron Men?"

"We do…"

"Hmm, leave one Iron Man behind, and you all retreat."

...

The third mission began, with Neil piloting Gundam Dynames heading to South Africa to intervene in the civil war sparked by mineral extraction rights.

But rather than a military intervention, it was more like bullying kindergarten children; the enemies facing Gundam Dynames were not even MS, just a group of construction workers equipped with heavy machine guns.

Neil piloted Gundam Dynames, standing idly in place, not even using the GN Sniper Rifle, only firing the GN Handgun in continuous bursts, scaring them into dropping their weapons and fleeing in panic without even needing to aim.

"Haah~ This is really frustrating. Bullying the weak like this… Well, Lyle is about the same; I still envy Setsuna for directly raiding the Human Reform League's base," Neil complained as he watched the fleeing construction workers.

Gundam Cherudim was heading to Taribia in South America, one of the world's few DP cultivation bases, to completely destroy this area and cut off the root of the conflict.

"This is really simple work," Lyle felt bored just like Neil. If Neil disliked bullying the weak, Lyle was simply itching to do something.

It was already the third mission since the first one, and only the second mission had warmed him up; he hadn't even satisfied his craving before it ended, cursing the Human Reform League's MS for being too weak. This time, the task was even simpler; he just had to fly over with a bomb-laden external pod and drop bombs on the fields, without even any construction workers to deal with.

"Let's finish the task quickly and go back. According to Ms. Huang's forecast, there won't be much time to do this easily soon, but… that suits me just fine."

Finally, there was Gundam Exia, responsible for continuing to eliminate the Human Reform League's base in Sri Lanka. However, he was puzzled that by the time he arrived, the enemy had already completely retreated, leaving only a high-mobility Iron Man standing in place waiting for him, and besides the E-Carbon fiber blade in his hand.

"No firearms, only blades… Are they trying to test me?" Setsuna frowned slightly but still landed in front of the high-mobility Iron Man.

As if in a duel, the Iron Man only charged at Gundam Exia after it had assumed its stance.

But almost in the instant of passing each other, the GN Sword severed the hand that was gripping the weapon.

What surprised Setsuna was that the Iron Man did not give up fighting just because it had lost its arm and only weapon; instead, it took the opportunity while Gundam Exia turned around to reach for Gundam Exia's head with its remaining left hand.

Although the opponent's decisiveness surprised Setsuna, he was no longer the same as he was in the original story after being trained by Yang Hui. He slightly pulled back the control stick and lifted it up a bit.

"Swish~"

Gundam Exia leaned back slightly, just avoiding the Iron Man's grasp. The left hand GN Sword popped out, and with a quick motion of the right hand, he directly turned the Iron Man into a stick figure.

"Don't… touch me," Setsuna muttered to himself, and after confirming that there were no other enemies in the base, he directly disengaged.

"Colonel!"

After Gundam Exia left, the enemies who had originally retreated returned to rescue Sergei.

But when they arrived, the scene before them made them feel embarrassed.

Sergei was sitting on the remaining body of the Iron Man, smoking a cigarette he hadn't touched since getting married, staring at the sky, a dejected aura filling the entire picture.

"5.87 seconds."

"Huh?" Everyone was momentarily stunned, not understanding what he meant.

"Only took 5.87 seconds to be utterly defeated; my lifetime of fame is gone…"

"Uh…"

Hearing this, everyone either stood quietly to the side or began to clean up the disaster, no one daring to disturb Sergei.

However, Sergei was not as dejected as they imagined; he was continuously replaying Gundam Exia's movements in his mind, especially the action of dodging his intended strike.

"The slightest displacement to evade the enemy's attack, that's you, you little brat."

...

Just as Sergei had expected, Setsuna's maneuver was indeed learned from Yang Hui, and the instigator, Yang Hui, was currently high in the sky, admiring Sergei's "world-famous painting."

"Tsk tsk tsk, bro, you've had your day, losing to me is one thing, but losing to my apprentice? You tried to steal a chicken and ended up losing the rice, heh heh, I can mock you freely from now on."

But while appreciating, this scene was just for collection; this was not a place to linger. His task was merely to ensure that Gundam Exia provided some support when encountering trouble to guarantee the mission's completion. Now that it was over, it was time to return, and after this return, he needed to recuperate well because in the next mission, he would be the only protagonist.
