Chapter 1403: A Better Spell Scribe
"…"
"…Yep."
Feeling himself return to the waking world, Valyr slowly looked around his current surroundings, only to then let out a low sigh as he slightly shook his head.
"Had a feeling I'd be sent here again."
Seeing that the world around him seemed to be made out of clouds yet again, the young man did not take long to understand where he was, especially if he connected it to what happened to him before he fell unconscious.
"So this is what she meant when she said I'd find out once I got it," murmured the young man to himself, shaking his head once more as the clouds surrounding him began to change color.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
After a couple minutes of incessant changing, the clouds eventually settled on the metallic platinum from before, prompting Valyr to look forward as a large rift appeared a few meters away from him a few seconds later.
Swoosh!
Watching the familiar yet faceless woman get out of the rift she conjured, he gradually began to notice that the woman was looking at him with a hint of amusement.
Though, above that slight sense of amusement was immense surprise.
"To be honest, I was expecting you to take a bit more time to get your subclass," said Arcane the moment she closed the rift behind her, having already spread a bit of her energy beforehand.
"After all, for the past couple of weeks, you were pretty much focused on completing the quests needed to evolve your class."
"In my head, I expected you to at least evolve your class to Mythic+ grade first before going for the subclass."
Knowing that the woman before him would explain why he was here at some point, Valyr decided to go with the flow of the conversation for the meantime.
"I could definitely do that," he said, nodding in agreement with her words. "But don't you think I'd finish the first two quests faster if I were to ascend to Rank 3 at least?"
"With your greatly improved comprehension aptitude?" Arcane tilted her head from side to side. "There wouldn't be too much of a difference."
"I'd say the time loss would be negligible."
"And by negligible, you mean?" Valyr looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
"Like a couple of years at most," she replied, briefly leaving the young man at a loss for words as he soon began to glare at her.
Feeling slight confusion towards his reaction to her words, Arcane soon understood what was going on, prompting her to give off the feeling that she was giving him a slightly wry smile.
However, rather than backtrack and correct herself, she instead decided to move on and get to the reason why she sent Valyr to her realm.
"Your progress aside, I'm sure you're wondering why I had you come here again, right?"
"All I know so far is that it has something to do with the subclass," answered Valyr, nodding at her question.
"Think about the subclass you got for a second," said Arcane in response, manifesting a couple of chairs for them to sit on. "Now, what's the core concept of the subclass?"
"Inscribing spells onto parchment for others to use?" replied Valyr after some time, his tone slightly uncertain.
"And now what's the core concept of the Arcane?" she asked after that.
"…Spells?" asked Valyr in return, only for his eyes to widen a few seconds later.
"I'm guessing you can see why I recommended the subclass to you, then?" Letting out a slight chuckle at the young man's reaction, Arcane looked back at him with a slight smile.
Although he nodded in understanding, the young man still had doubts. "That still doesn't explain why I'm here, though."
"Well, that's because the subclass you have right now is incomplete," replied Arcane, which unsurprisingly caused Valyr to look back at her in confusion.
Knowing that it would probably take her longer to explain it in words, the woman decided to make use of her powers instead, releasing a bit more of her energy into the air before infusing it directly into Valyr's body.
Whoosh!
Having been caught off guard by Arcane, the young man wasn't able to resist the energy whatsoever, feeling a hint of fear and panic as the energy began to spread throughout his body.
However, just as he thought she was going to do something similar to what she did with the Nascent Rebirth Elixir again, Valyr instead felt more strength coursing throughout his body all of a sudden.
Ding! Ding! Ding!
Hearing a series of notifications go off in his head the moment that was happening, the young man went ahead and took a look at them, finally answering the first question he had the moment he got here.
[The Quintessence of the Arcane Concept has taken notice of the resonance between your main class and your subclass.]
[The Quintessence of the Arcane Concept feels that your subclass could be better attuned to the Arcane Concept.]
[The Quintessence of the Arcane Concept is modifying your subclass.]
[…]
[…]
[The modification has been successful.]
[Your subclass 'Spell Scribe (Common)' has been modified into 'Arcane Spell Scribe (Rare — Growth)'.]
"…" Closing his eyes for a bit as he adjusted to the sudden increase in his strength, Valyr soon shifted his gaze towards Arcane, who looked back at him with slight amusement.
"So? What do you think?"
Arcane smiled. "Thanks to my modifications, you now have the ability to inscribe the spells you make through [Arcane Codex] onto parchment."
Hearing those words, Valyr's eyes widened in shock, only for him to then look at her with suspicion. "Was I not able to do that beforehand?"
"You're free to try it out," replied Arcane, deciding to retract the modification she had done to his subclass while conjuring a piece of parchment before him.
Whoosh!
Feeling a bit of nausea from having lost the strength he gained all of a sudden, Valyr forced himself to acclimate to his previous strength as he shifted his gaze towards the parchment.
Taking in a deep breath to regain his bearings, he then condensed a bit of his mana on his fingertip, bringing up the spell circle for [Orb of Apyrhan] in his mind.
Swoosh! Swoosh!
Inscribing the spell's magic circle onto the parchment, the young man soon began to feel a hint of doubt towards Arcane's words, seeing as he had no issues inscribing the spell whatsoever.
However, that doubt was soon dispelled the moment he tried to activate it, immediately noticing that the conversion runes were the only part reacting to the energy he infused.
"Do you believe me now?" asked Arcane as she gave off a slightly smug aura, causing Valyr to sigh once more as he felt the strength he lost gradually return to him.
Whoosh!
While he was in the middle of readjusting to his newly returned strength, Arcane continued to talk about the things that separated his current subclass from the Spell Scribe subclass he previously had.
Though, unlike the previous perk she mentioned, this one left Valyr at a further loss for words.
"Aside from being able to inscribe spells from the [Arcane Codex] onto parchment, you've also gained the ability to look at a portion of the spells that have been created throughout history."
"Because of that, I decided to name the skill [Arcane Compendium]. Quite proud of it, if I do say so myself."
"…"
"…"
"…On second thought, that's actually confusing."
