Miss Witch Doesn't Want to be a Diva

Chapter 87: Elegy in the Painted Night

The steel-grey large aircraft soared through the bright sky, abruptly surging forward. The faint sparks caused by the friction between its hull and the air appeared like a spray of orange-red mist dispersed across the heavens, and with a shrill whistling sound that was gone in a flash, it vanished from view.

'The aircraft has reached the airspace above North Fourth District, current coordinates 28°25'N latitude and 52°18'E longitude, estimated to arrive at the destination in 23 minutes and 28 seconds'

The mechanical voice within the cabin echoed with a series of beeps, while the students in their seats began to check their protective suits and equipment. Near the chest of each protective suit was an electronic component with an integrated chip that constantly collected and fed back the wearer's vital sign information, providing alerts and reminders.

Along the aisle, N, already fully armed, went back and forth to check, ensuring that everyone was fully equipped and ready before stopping.

"This trip far to the north may be the first mission for many of you, and as your teacher, I feel it's necessary to share a few guidelines,"

"Firstly, although the Federation is strong, not every corner is under its protection. The areas you are heading to, Northern Second District and North Ninth District, are clear examples of this."

"North Ninth District still has some rudimentary lower-level institutions that maintain stability at key nodes within the region, but Northern Second District is not one of them. Many years ago, the Federation announced the evacuation of its residents, but even so, many of the original inhabitants have never left. Their status is awkward; while the Federation does not exclude them, it also does not fully recognize them."

"In these regions, devoid of various monitoring records and without Riot Control Units to maintain order, security is not as stable as the places you've lived in before. Conflicts of all kinds can occur, especially on the desolate wilderness roads, where even if a violent crime occurs, it is extremely difficult to investigate."

"At night, you must be even more cautious. Any lodging offered by others should be rigorously scrutinized, maintain skepticism and vigilance."

"Although the environment is harsh and poses quite a challenge for you novices, the targets of this mission are not particularly difficult. You need to carry out instructions from the Planetary Environmental Management Committee, which includes sampling at 683 nodes shown on the map and recording any plants, animals, and all sorts of special phenomena encountered along the way, which will help provide guidance for future management and remediation of the planet's deteriorating environment."

"That's all I have to say. On the way, I will serve as your driver to assist you, but unless you encounter extreme danger, I will not intervene to help. All problems must be solved by yourselves."

"Next, as time is almost upon us, I wish you all a smooth journey."

Soon after he finished speaking, as the tension started to build among the trainees in the cabin, the aircraft began to descend. The vibrations from the machinery underneath intensified, heightening the adrenaline of the students.

The screeching whistle cut through the murky sky as the steel-grey large aircraft skimmed the atmosphere, plunging towards the ground scattered with pebbles and debris. With the jet nozzles reversed to decelerate, the plane gradually came to a halt, slowly landing on the ground amid descending exhaust fumes, finally touching down completely.

The rear hatch of the aircraft opened, and out drove a large truck, towering three people in height. Then slowly the aircraft's doors closed, and it ascended vertically once more, reaching the proper altitude before climbing into the high sky, disappearing into the grey horizon.

"Is this the Northern Second District? It's so desolate," Yalian said, stepping out in a white protective suit decorated with orange-red squares, looking up at the sky and surroundings with a sigh.

Following that, other members also descended from the side door of the truck, stepping onto the tough, uncomfortable ground, feeling a sense of novelty.

The entire ground was made up of gravel, coarse sand, and hardened soil, grey and devoid of greenery.

The entire Northern Second District was like this, the terrain corroded by acid rain, the original vegetation long since vanished, and without the plants to bind it, the land gradually became desertified, forming the landscape visible today.

"Do we need to wear breath masks? The air feels a bit dry," Deloris said as she descended the stairs by the side of the truck, her other hand lightly covering her mouth and nose.

Although she couldn't wear the elaborate and proper dresses as usual, her black hair pinned up still accentuated her beauty. In fact, as the young mistress of 'Incense Workshop', she didn't need to participate in such activities, but she had followed along because it was Tilan who proposed it.

"Breath masks are optional. As long as it's not the rainy season and you're outdoor, the weak toxins in the air are not enough to be lethal, and besides, we won't be staying long," Phyllis said while using an air detector to record the surrounding conditions, then made her assessment.

"You Elves don't seem to be so spoiled after all," another club member with burgundy short hair commented as he came out, leaning against the truck tire and pouring a soft drink into his mouth.

"Is everyone out?" then, a familiar voice rang out from atop the truck, followed by a jump down.

Dressed in white trousers and a jacket trimmed with orange edges, Tilan looked efficient and agile, her figure graceful, her eyes, and voice as captivating as ever.

"I think everyone is out," they said, checking among themselves.

There were a total of 12 people who had come, all members of the Twilight Orchestra, including the girls Tilan, Deloris, Ruby, Efnie, and Yeyeber, and the boys Valke, Yalian, Kinsenke, Phyllis, Guluo, Ximu, and Xie Lian.

Among them, Yalian, Phyllis, and Yeyeber were Elves and knew each other before. Two of them had even joined the club through Yalian's introduction.
