Chapter 1925: -1884- The one-sided battle
This is a war that's hardly worth mentioning.
Because, when the outcome is a one-sided affair, it can't be called a war—it's nothing but a massacre.
Before the army of Dragonkind and the golem legions reached the Round Table Fortress, the soldiers of the fortress fired a volley of arrows, creating a spectacular scene of arrows filling the air. But that was far too weak for the Dragonkind and golems.
The dragon's scales deflected every arrow.
The golems were not even living beings; their bodies were made of rocks, earth, trees, minerals, and other materials. Even when hit by arrows, they merely made a "clinking" sound, doing nothing more.
Even when the soldiers used magic-enhanced arrows, which were likely provided by the Holy City, and some mages appeared, they were still far too fragile against the onslaught of Dragonkind and golems.
After all, Rozen didn't summon a wyvern, but a true Dragonkind—a powerful phantasmal species that even top-tier servants need to exert effort to repel. How could regular soldiers and mages deal with them?
As for the golems, Rozen didn't summon the largest ones due to their massive size, which would attract too much attention, but still summoned large golems of a upper-tier familiar. These golems charged through the arrow storm and attacked the fortress gates.
And then, the carnage began.
The dragons' breath attacks bombarded the fortress, destroying buildings and the earth, creating explosions that filled the air with fire and thick smoke, while the stench of gunpowder rose like a storm.
The golems, unafraid of death, withstood all attacks as they assaulted the advancing soldiers, sending them flying with punches, kicks, and body slams. They eventually broke through the fortress gates, causing the walls to shake and tremble violently, gradually being destroyed.
It was such a violent battle.
Even when the soldiers dragged out the magical puppets from the dungeons to fight back, these were still crushed by the dragons' powerful onslaught, either shattered by dragon claws or flung away by dragon tails, even bombarded by fiery breaths. If it weren't for Rozen's prior orders to be careful not to destroy the entire fortress, the fortress might already have fallen.
In the midst of this, soldiers screamed in agony—either devoured by dragons or flattened by golems, their deaths were tragically horrific.
When the Mountain People's soldiers entered the fallen fortress, they showed no mercy. With cries and roars, they slaughtered the Holy City soldiers.
According to Artoria (Alter), these soldiers had, after witnessing the cruelty of the Holy City, either been terrified of death or were drawn to the Holy City's wealth and pleasures. They had surrendered willingly, forsaking their dignity, and became mere lackeys for the Holy City knights.
Even though some still had a shred of conscience and didn't want to harm the refugees, they were still accomplices of the Holy City knights. Having forsaken their faith, their self-respect had vanished, leaving no room for mercy.
Thus, the Mountain People despised these faithless traitors and showed no hesitation in their actions.
Even Artoria (Alter), upon entering the fortress, expression cold, swung her sword, causing the dark holy sword to flash like a black lightning bolt. With each strike, she cut down the soldiers, even cleaving some in two, sending blood flying everywhere.
Rozen, under Mash's protection, also entered the fortress.
Along the way, many soldiers seemed to recognize Rozen's special identity and attempted to attack him or even take him hostage, but they were unable to even touch the hem of his cloak. Either they were torn to pieces by the dragons that circled around, or their attacks were blocked by a massive shield that appeared in front of them, only to be knocked away by the nearby golems.
The group advanced smoothly, almost unimpeded, until they reached the entrance to the underground dungeon.
Rozen's "Heaven's Eye" activated as soon as they entered the fortress, easily locating the dungeon entrance without needing help from Chaldea's scanners.
Thus, leaving the dragons and golems behind to continue the massacre and letting the Mountain People loot the supplies, Rozen, Mash, and Artoria (Alter) led a group of soldiers and golems into the underground dungeon.
And then, they faced the true enemies.
"—!"
"—!"
With terrifying screeches, dark figures rushed toward them.
"Those are necromantic creatures! Be careful!" warned Roman, Da Vinci, and Olga Marie.
The underground dungeon was filled with numerous undead and vengeful spirits, along with some vicious beasts. Upon sensing the presence of the living, they immediately attacked.
Normal soldiers' attacks were ineffective against them; only Rozen and the others could deal with these creatures. Even the golems could only fight the beasts, unable to affect the intangible undead.
As the golems rushed forward to battle the beasts, and the soldiers scattered in fear while searching for the prisoners held here, Rozen, Mash, and Artoria (Alter) became the main force dealing with the undead.
Artoria (Alter) moved like a streak of black light in the dark underground space, and with every dash, her holy sword became a bolt of black lightning, swiftly slicing through the attacking undead and spirits.
"Ha!"
Mash wasn't to be outdone, charging forward with a shout. Her shield swirled through the air like a storm, scattering and flinging the undead and spirits away with each swing. The progress in her strength was evident.
As for Rozen, he wasn't even afraid of these necromantic creatures.
What was he?
He was a Onmyoji.
Wasn't dealing with these undead a simple task?
"————————"
Rozen chanted, and bright white light erupted from his body.
The undead and spirits that were touched by the white light melted away, disappearing amid their agonized wails.
Rozen had just cast the mantra of the Vairocana Tathāgata, a purification spell that banishes demons and evil spirits with light.
Thus, no ordinary evil creatures could even get close to Rozen.
Under such circumstances, they continued to press forward through the dungeon.
Finally, they arrived at the place where Chaldea had detected a Servant response.
"This should be the place," Rozen said, as he reached forward and pushed open an iron door.
In the next moment, the scene inside the room appeared before their eyes.
