Chapter 1896 - 1896 His Third Identity
1896 His Third Identity
The signal was working fine, but she was unable to get in touch with the clan elders. This meant…
The kid was not here. Considering his computer skills, he was unable to access the satellite remotely.
As she pondered, her phone suddenly vibrated.
It was a phone call.
Huo Yao exited the virtual keyboard, paused for a couple of seconds, and pressed answer, “Hi, Aunt Tong.”
“Where are you now?” Shangguan Tong finally reached Huo Yao and her voice sounded anxious. “Have you gone back to the clan?”
“Uh huh. I just got to Serene Village.” Huo Yao seemed to expect her call and simply said, “I had to come back.”
Shangguan Tong knew she must have taken the black jade, so she asked anxiously, “Why?”
Huo Yao did not answer her. Instead, she asked casually, “The signal in the village got cut off. Was it you?”
“Huh? Is it malfunctioning?” Shangguan Tong was a little surprised. “It was fine when I came out.”
Hearing this, the notion in Huo Yao’s mind was slowly getting proven right. Her eyes turned briefly before she answered, “Just a slight malfunction.”
Shangguan Tong felt that Huo Yao would not bring this up if it did not matter. Just as she was about to keep probing, Huo Yao’s voice could be heard again.
“Oh yes. Do you know Sheng Ying?” asked Huo Yao.
“Sheng Ying?” Shangguan Tong did not continue with her initial questions. Nothing came to mind hearing the name, so she shook her head. “I don’t know him. Who is he?”
“The chairman of the Archaeology Association in the capital,” said Huo Yao unhurriedly.
“I’ve never spoken to him before,” answered Shangguan Tong. She quickly caught onto something. “Is that the reason you suddenly went back home?”
“He also has another identity.” Huo Yao looked into the distance. The sky was dark and not a single star was around. The atmosphere felt so intense that it seemed like a precursor to a storm. After some time, she said, “He’s King from Mirage Base.”
Shangguan Tong went quiet. She did not know the chairman of the Archaeology Association, but she certainly knew about King.
King was the man who made Shangguan Hou betray the clan. Also, King’s intentions were clear. He wanted the things belonging to the Shangguan clan.
“Does this mean King is back in the country as well?” As Shangguan Tong contemplated, she quickly came up with an answer. “Did he lure you back?”
Hearing this, Shangguan Tong’s uneasiness intensified. “What are you trying to do?”
Huo Yao pursed her lips and smiled deeply.
From the moment she saw her master’s face in the car this morning, she already saw this coming.
Huo Yao removed her phone from her ear. A hurried voice could be heard coming from the phone, but she was no longer listening.
The words “you will die” disappeared into the air after she hung up the phone.
Huo Yao placed her phone in her pocket. She turned around and noticed Min Yu had already come out of the house as well. She suddenly smiled. “Don’t you think this is a great place to live in seclusion?”
Min Yu looked at her intently for a few seconds before walking over. He stood beside her and looked into the distance. After some time, he finally said, “If you can leave the outside world behind you, why not?”
“If you want to live, something will always affect you.” Huo Yao sighed softly. Her voice sounded uncharacteristically sad perhaps owing to the quietness in the yard.
Min Yu did not ask Huo Yao what she meant and simply said, “You can always try to change things.”
Huo Yao shrugged without answering. It was unclear if she was genuinely listening to him.
Min Yu reached his hand and held her hand hanging from the side of her body. It felt cold to the touch. He frowned as he held it and said, “Oh yes. The archaeological team entered this area last year as well. They were here to find a time travel machine.”
