MHA: The Tower Era

Chapter 7: Chase

"Hopefully." A grin came over Luke as he thought about the future.

The silent moon loomed overhead, escaping the black clouds that once covered it. The rain abated for just a moment as two eyes looked through the veiling clouds.

A box made of soul energy floated above the runny, discontinued and cracked concrete that Luke stood upon. Notably, four chains connected to this box, almost like a present locked by chains, represented the four souls that Luke stored. Every soul has a chain that leads somewhere; Luke could give that soul another chain, a shackle that imprisoned the soul to the box.

Channelling his Soul Energy, he tugged upon the four chains, and as a person who could see inside the Soul Reality, Luke witnessed ripples in the air as if they were water. When it rippled violently, four bodies appeared, and some of the four looked recognisable as humans.

"Eifrig, please go find the ones who escaped." Luke knelt and held four of the chains inside his one hand. His Soul Energy flooded his hand and converted the chains, the close distance making it easier to transfer the energy.

"Yes, Boss!" Eifrig flew in the opposite direction to the train station, phasing through the broken houses. His departure left the alleyway, which they found in silence once again.

Rats came out of hiding; crows stood on lamp posts that flickered with light.

The soaked pavement reflected the appearance of a man holding the air as a vermin ran across the water, causing ripples that unstabilised the reflection—turning the reflection blurry and indiscernible.

AI whoosed around Luke, making a distraction.

"What's wrong?" Since converting the four souls would take time, Luke decided to pass the time; he turned his face from the box and towards the unusually still ball.

The ball quickly moved back and forth, vibrating, but unable to speak.

"A name?" Luke deciphered the message, but his eyes widened. "What? I didn't give you emotions." Luke watched in surprise before a Tower Screen blocked his vision.

His skill screen appeared, and more information showed itself.

Luke waved the screen away, breaking it into many pieces that gradually faded.

Refocusing, Luke looked at the black hole like a ball. "A name, huh." His eyes slowly looked at the surrounding environment, a lonely and dark alleyway that smelled awful and reeked of blood. Occasionally, screams would be heard, but not through sound but through the buildings that screamed in pain and misery.

"How about Helfer?" Suggested Luke. The ball whirled slowly as if thinking. "It means helper from the language where I live." Luke tried to look at AI's eyes but failed to find the eyes.

The ball whirled quicker and vibrated, orbiting around Luke, which is presumed to be excitement.

"You like it?" Luke smiled as the ball continued to whirl and whoosh.

Sitting down on the edge of the pavement whilst continuing to convert the four souls at once, Luke checked his status.

 Status

Name: Luke Enfae

Title: Supreme Synchronised

Physical: Maximum

Mental: Maxium -> Low

Energy: E -> F(E)

His mental fatigue seemed to be increasing, and his energy seemed to be decreasing; using convert five times in the same day took its toll on Luke's energy, and the restoration with his arm did not help.

Luke looked afar to the walkway that spanned in the direction of Eifrig, "I wonder if he is doing okay." The ball vibrated.

"You're right, Helfer; we should do what we can." The ball suddenly orbited Luke slower. Luke looked at the stopped ball and spoke slowly.

"Helfer?" The ball continued to whirl. "Is that what you want?" Luke muttered to himself.

A few miles away, an invisible figure was surveying his surroundings. His face, which didn't have eyes or a nose but only a mouth, would have left an unforgettable memory if someone could see him.

"It feels weird. Talking again through a mouth is weird." Eifrig touched his lips. "I feel weird." Eifrig mused as he continued to do his job diligently.

"Phasing through things wasn't something I could do." Eifrig moved through the walls of a tall, white apartment that had soared to the sky. The dark clouds stood above overhead, and Eifrig could feel the mist-like air through his hands.

"I wonder who the boss is. I died, but he brought me back to atone." Eifrig looked at the ground and noticed a group of people who ran through the alleyways of this city district.

"Are they...?" Eifrig glided down to the floor and followed them through the alleyways while taking in the sights.

"Wait... How can I see?" Eifrig poked his fingers into what would have been his eyes and felt nothing but a smooth surface. "Weird... again." Eifrig walked along a street that was relatively better than where Luke was converting the dead.

The clean pavement, communal bus stops, and actual people who drove their cars and walked the pavement were covered by dark clouds. The rain that hit here looked different than in the other district; the pitter-pattering of rain reflected only the most prominent buildings, and it seemed clean.

Eifrig's footsteps created ripples in the water; he looked through an obscure exit to the street that he landed on. Inside, the walls lined with garbage bags and few people who lived in such conditions. The floor and walls were graffitied and vandalised, the green bins were open, and racoons seemed to live inside.

Vermin hidden inside cracks in the walls.

Eifrig continued down this path, not caring for the uncleaniness, "It feels like home. Maybe I came here before." Eifrig felt that he remembered this route. "Maybe I wasn't always Eifrig, but something else. I don't remember. I don't remember anything. Maybe answers are inside, and if I follow them." Eifrig's face turned towards the escaping group.

Their running created more mess and damage.

"Maybe I might know who I am, even if I am someone right now. I know I was more." Eifrig tugged on the storage cube that Luke gave him, appearing in his hands. Eifrig took out a phone and opened the internet.

Inside the small phone, Eifrig opened his email, and with his memory, which had improved for some reason, he scrolled the contacts and saw a common name listed in some.

"Who is Joanh Efare... I want to know."

Eifrig started walking again and throwing the phone back into the cube.
