Chapter 6: My Batman
-Last night-
Shōta Aizawa POV
I was patrolling the city of Musutafu at night. There wasn't anything unusual happening throughout the city.
As I had been patrolling for more than five hours now, I was about to head home when I suddenly heard an explosion from my right.
Quickly stopping, I frowned and looked in the direction of the explosion. Black smoke rose through the skies as I groaned in annoyance. "These criminals never stop."
The explosion wasn't far from me, so I decided to stop the villain.
With a sigh, I leaped from building to building and finally arrived at a small bank. The bank had dead security guards all over the outside of the building, and red alarms rang out.
Looking around, I noticed the lack of police. Usually, police would have arrived by now. Even if the closest police station was a 30-minute drive away, the streets would always have police cars patrolling.
I dropped down with a thud and quickly made my way inside.
When I entered the building, I saw more guards dead on the floor. I kneeled down to one of the guards and analyzed how they died. Analyzing the way they died could give me an idea of their quirk or how I could fight the enemy.
"Gunshots and explosions…"
I stood up and made my way deeper into the building, where I saw a smoking vault. The vault had a massive hole that had been made from an explosion.
I readied myself for a fight as I stood in front of the vault. Sneaking inside, I scanned the vault and saw no one. The bills were intact, and nothing seemed to be stolen.
Click
As I scanned the vault, I felt a cold metal object pointed at the back of my head—it was a gun.
The man behind me began to laugh. "Hahahaha! You thought you were sneaky, didn't you?!"
"Hmp." The white rope-like cloth around my neck began to float, and with my command, it coiled around the man's hand, disarming him.
When the gun dropped, I put my hands on the ground, lifted my feet, and kicked him in the stomach.
"Argh… Hahahaha, that hurts!"
Strangely enough, the man didn't frown but just took the kick and laughed.
I frowned at the villain and said, "Give it up." I activated my quirk and spoke once more. "Your quirk won't work. And that thing around your hand is made of a steel wire alloy and woven carbon nanofibers. You can't escape."
The man laughed. "Why the hell are you telling me all this?"
Then suddenly, an explosion struck me from below.
I coughed as the smoke got into my nose. I managed to reduce some of the damage by recalling my scarf and protecting my legs, but I couldn't fully nullify the damage, as I still had burned skin.
"Did he plant the bomb in advance?" I murmured.
When the smoke disappeared, the man was also gone. As I searched the vault, a sudden voice came from above. "Above you!"
Bang Bang
I quickly dodged while also protecting myself using my scarf. The man was hanging from the roof, shooting at me manically with the same grin.
When he ran out of bullets, he frowned, banged the gun on his knee, and said, "Oh, for crying out loud, you only lasted ten seconds!"
He smiled at me and threw the gun aside. "Oh well."
When he got down from the roof, I finally managed to get a better look at him.
He was short, very short. At first, I thought he was a kid, but he didn't look like one. And the way he fought made me feel like he was a veteran.
He wore a purple suit and a green dress shirt with a tie. His hair was black and pulled back neatly. His face was covered in white powdered makeup, and red lipstick made his mouth look bigger than normal. His makeup made it harder to see if he was really a kid or an adult.
If he was truly a kid, then there could be a chance he could be turned into a hero instead of a villain.
I reactivated my quirk, and my scarf began to float once again. "So, what's your goal here? You didn't steal the money, and you're fighting me head-on instead of running."
"I've expected you, hehehahahaha!" He laughed madly.
"What?" I questioned.
There's no way he would know who I am. I'm not on the hero ranking list, nor am I well-known to the public. I'm an underground hero, so he shouldn't know about me.
"My goal doesn't matter. The only thing that matters here is you and mev! And as for running…"
He dashed toward me with a knife he pulled from his waist. Countering his move, my scarf moved quickly, restraining his arm once more. But then he pulled out a gun and pointed it right at my face.
"Running wouldn't be fun now!"
Bang
"Bastard."
My scarf began to lower, revealing my glaring eyes. The bullet didn't hit me, but instead struck the scarf, which didn't even leave a dent.
I ducked down and launched a right hook to his face, but he dodged. I quickly shifted my body and kicked him.
However, he blocked my kick with his arms. And once I was off balance, he used his left arm to strike me with the knife he was holding. I tried to block by holding his wrist, but he was too fast. Instead, he stabbed my left hand right through, nearing my eye.
I forced my way forward with strength alone and wrapped his hand with my scarf. When his left hand was immobile, I slowly stood up and struck his side.
"Argh… Hahaha, just the way I like it."
He smashed his head into my face and took out something from his pocket—a bomb.
"Hahahaha! You release me, or we both die together. Pick your poison."
"Shit," I murmured.
I released him and jumped backward. The villain copied me but grabbed something off the ground—the gun—and began shooting at me.
One of the bullets landed on my shoulder, causing me to groan in pain.
Weewoo Weewoo
The police sirens sounded, making him frown, but only for a second. When he looked at me, he giggled while smiling widely and said, "Well, I guess this is it, dried-eye man."
Bang Bang Bang
He shot three times, making me duck for cover. But when I finally got out of my hiding spot, he was gone.
Some of the bills on the table were also gone, disappearing like the wind.
Frowning, I asked myself,
"How the hell did he do that?"
