Chapter 32: Tsuyu x Tokoyami
It was a bright and sunny day, perfect for Class 1-A's field trip to the local zoo. Tsuyu Asui, known for her frog-like abilities and pragmatic demeanor, was buzzing with excitement as she walked beside her partner, Tokoyami. With his dark, bird-like features and the shadowy presence of Dark Shadow, he always intrigued her. Today, however, there was a shared mission: take notes and photographs for their zoo research project.
As they moved from exhibit to exhibit, Tsuyu couldn't help but marvel at Tokoyami's analytical mind. He observed each animal with a keen eye, noting the time they spent active and resting, their diets, and their behaviors. When they reached the elephants, the largest mammals in the zoo, both couldn't resist whipping out their phones to capture the moment.
"Over here, Tokoyami! Look at that one!" Tsuyu said excitedly, pointing at a playful calf splashing water with its trunk. Tokoyami, usually composed, found himself grinning at her enthusiasm. They huddled together, both focusing intently on getting the perfect shot.
The minutes slipped away, and the sounds of the zoo blended into one joyful harmony. They were so engrossed in photographing the elephants that they lost track of time and, ultimately, their classmates. When Tsuyu finally noticed the empty grounds nearby, her eyes widened.
"Uh-oh. I think we should find the others!" she said, her brow furrowing slightly.
Tokoyami nodded, but as they started to move, a mischievous thought crossed his mind. Just before the trip, Kaminari had dared him to kiss Tsuyu if they ever found themselves in a moment alone. In the spirit of friendly competition, he made a quick decision.
"Wait, Tsuyu…" He hesitated, then took a deep breath. "I have to do something first."
Before she could question him, he leaned in gently, cupping her cheek as he pressed his lips against hers. Tsuyu was taken off guard; her eyes went wide, and her heart raced as the realization of what was happening hit her. The warmth of his lips was unexpected—tender, soft, and filled with a confidence that jolted her senses.
After the initial shock faded, Tsuyu decided to embrace the moment. She closed her eyes and kissed him back, surprising not just Tokoyami, but herself as well. The kiss was brief yet electrifying, filled with unspoken words and emotions trapped beneath their careful surfaces.
Tokoyami pulled back, his heart pounding in his chest. "I—uh—wow," he stammered, utterly flabbergasted by her response. His surprise quickly turned into a wider smile as he registered her reaction.
Tsuyu's cheeks flushed a deep green, a color that she could barely hide. "I didn't expect that," she admitted, her voice steady despite the rush of feelings. "But… I liked it."
"Really?" Tokoyami's voice was soft, the reality settling in. "I liked it too. I didn't want to cross a line without knowing how you felt."
She looked him in the eyes, her own filled with sincerity. "I've always admired your calmness and your dedication. Being with you today made me realize you're more than a friend. I actually like you, Tokoyami."
His heart soared at her confession. "And I've admired your determination, Tsuyu. You're so genuine and brave. You've always been special to me."
Under the bright sun and amidst the sounds of laughter and animal calls, the two shared a moment that felt like it suspended time—a connection that blossomed unexpectedly amid their playful exploration.
Realizing they were still slightly lost, they exchanged amused glances, their hearts tethered together in this newfound understanding.
"Let's find our class," Tsuyu suggested with a bright smile, her mind racing with the possibilities of their relationship. "But first… can we take a selfie together?"
"Absolutely," Tokoyami replied, a warm smile on his face as he leaned closer, ready to capture the start of their new adventure. With phones in hand and laughter in the air, they began their search, camaraderie transformed into something deeper and profoundly more beautiful.
