Chapter 20: Halloween Trunk or Treat 5
The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm golden glow over the schoolyard. Halloween had arrived, and excitement buzzed in the air as students from Class 1-A scurried about, ensuring their decorations were in place for the much-anticipated trunk or treat fundraiser. Banners hung cheerfully from open car trunks, while cobwebs draped over brightly painted pumpkins that rested on the grass.
"Is that crooked?" shouted Mina, adjusting a laughter-inducing ghostly decoration that had twisted slightly in the wind.
"Just a bit to the left!" Denki called back with a grin, his fingers twitching with barely contained energy. "More spooky, less… weird!"
As the decorations took shape, laughter and lively chatter filled the air. Class 1-A worked quickly, but they were equally as eager to see what Shinso and Class 1-B were cooking up. Rumors had swirled around their plans for a haunted house, promising chills and thrills for anyone brave enough to enter.
With the decoration setup complete, the gates were swung open, and the guests began to trickle in—children, parents, and even some alumni, all dressed in costumes ranging from silly to spine-chilling. Giggling children sprinted towards candy-laden trunks, the sweet scent of treats mixing with the crisp autumn air. Laughter echoed as each car trunk came alive, with students from Class 1-A enthusiastically interacting with the excited guests.
In the corner of the school yard, near the old oak tree, Class 1-B had transformed their designated area into a haunted spectacle. Dim lights flickered ominously, and eerie sounds crept through the evening atmosphere like a creeping fog. Shinso stood at the entrance, cloaked in a dark costume that concealed his true identity, lending his eerie charm to the overall ambiance.
"Welcome to the haunted house!" he called, his voice deepening as he unleashed his quirk, weaving an experimental enchantment that captivated those who entered. With each guest who braved the entrance, Class 1-B sprung into action, utilizing their quirks to enhance the experience; ghostly projections danced along the walls, while others created realistic screams that sent shivers down the spines of the brave little trick-or-treaters.
As the night fell deeper and the moon rose high, streams of visitors flowed through both the trunk or treat and the haunted house. Laughter echoed, squeals of delight turned to shrieks of fright, and the camaraderie between Classes 1-A and 1-B shone brightly amid the Halloween festivities.
By the time the clock struck nine, they had raised over $100,000. The money would go to support community outreach programs, providing resources for children in need, something both classes felt passionately about.
As the event wound down, Principal Nezu, accompanied by several teachers and pro heroes, took to the makeshift stage set up at the center of the yard. "I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Class 1-A and Class 1-B for putting together such a marvelous event," he began, his eyes sparkling with pride. "Your hard work and creativity not only brought joy to this community but will also make a significant impact on those in need. You have all truly embodied the spirit of heroism tonight."
The crowd erupted in cheers, many students facepalming in embarrassment yet beaming nonetheless. Shinso exchanged smiles with his classmates as they held on to the moment—the gratitude from their principal, the joy from the community, and the snickers as they remembered how many scares they'd given to kids too young to really understand the thrill.
As they packed up the last of their decorations, the laughter continued to echo in their hearts. "This turned out wonderfully," Momo said, glancing around at the happy faces, her smile broadening. "I can't wait to do this again next year!"
"Next year, let's go even bigger!" Eijiro exclaimed, thrumming with enthusiasm. Everyone nodded in agreement, their faces glowing with camaraderie and a shared sense of accomplishment.
Together, as they cleaned up, they promised each other that no matter how busy college would become, they would always find time to give back. The trunk or treat would forever remain a delightful chapter of their school memories—a night when they came together to unite fun with purpose, proving that they truly were heroes, both in and out of the classroom.
