MHA: Gamer Hero

Chapter 5: Enrollment in UA

"Haaa!~"

I sighed loudly as I sat on my chair, crossing my legs and holding my head with my hand: forehead with my middle and index fingers, and thumb under my cheek, while holding the elbow of said hand to my chest with my other hand. My face was clearly showing irritation.

And I was really annoyed right now. Not only did she sign up for the hero course entrance exam, which I don't see anything wrong with. But she managed to screw up badly by setting me up. Especially with her, apparently newly, *Awakened* Quirk!

And no, I wouldn't be mad if she told me about it, but I'm hearing it directly from the principal, sitting in front of me with Toga.

'She turned into me! A student with special recommendation! And she also made a scene! Arrgh!'

Looking at my irritated, helpless face, she just turned away and began to look at the ceiling, as if there were stars shining on it.

"Haaa~"

Removing my hand from my face, I tried to calm down.

'I haven't felt like this in a long time. The last time was when I was a kid, when my stupid brother was caught playing hide and seek and came up to me saying *Damn, brother, we've been found* when I was in the best spot on the playground. We were playing for the limited Almighty card back then...'

Along with the added irritation, came a huge wave of joy from these distant memories, which allowed me to get out of the negative emotions.

Her fate was being decided now. During the test, she had gained quite a few points for destroying robots and, oddly enough, for saving. Although the commission had severely cut them for her behavior and antics, but given her abilities, no one doubted that she would get into the hero course.

The problem is that she got the same amount of points along with another participant, Izuku Midoriya. Now the question was who to send to Class A and Class B.

For me, Midoriya would be preferable, but not because of the stable development of the story. I simply did not want to personally deal with problematic individuals like Bakugo and Todoroki, becoming their target for overcoming. It was better to let them be distracted by *annoying obstacle* and *All Might's illegitimate son*, from their points of view, respectively.

But...

I couldn't decide anything right now, completely respecting Toga as a person. So I couldn't order her to transfer to Class B, or even more so, emotionally abuse her to force her to make the same decision. It was disgusting and fundamentally wrong, valuing our friendship and what it means to her.

I continued to sit up straight, unwilling to turn away as Toga stared at me after I calmed down.

"So, Miss Toga." The principal addressed her, clasping his paws on the table, looking like a human. He spoke to her by name because she had asked for it, not wanting to be addressed by her family name.

He continued.

"Have you decided which class you want to be in yet? For some reason, we decided not to involve a participant with the same score. You can consider that you, in the end, performed better."

Apparently, All Might wanted to leave a surprise for Midoriya by personally congratulating him via video call, although the reason may be different, considering his current state.

'It was quite a pitiful sight. All four limbs were broken and he was lying all in plaster and bandages...'

But knowing that Recovery Girl was currently taking care of him, I didn't really care about it.

"Hmm..."

Toga sat in silence for a few minutes, then asked.

"Can I see the class composition?"

The principal only smiled at this, then handed over a tablet with a brief information about the hero course students.

' *Heh heh heh, stupid humans.* I'm sure this thought pops into his head when he smiles. But it's most likely PTSD, considering the *inhuman* experiments he went through, probably a defense mechanism when interacting with people... He's too kind to humanity after all the suffering he's gone through, for which I sincerely respect him.'

At the same time, Toga managed to quickly look at Class A and after half a minute her eyes lit up.

"I've decided. I want to go to Class 1-B."

"Okay, then you can leave. Don't forget your jackets and things."

Toga stood up and went to the coat rack, while I stood there dumbfounded.

'What do you mean, everything fine and we can leave? You now know that we live together! Then why were there all those questions in the beginning? So you're just going to let this go? I had already prepared myself to bid farewell to Toga while UA provided her with housing or a student loan for it.'

"Hm? Is something wrong, Mister Mineta? Do you have a question?" The principal turned to me, still smiling.

"Ah, no, nothing. I was just thinking about my future training at UA, since my Quirk growth had slowed down."

"Ahaha! There's no need to worry about that, since we help our students reach their full potential and beyond. It's not for nothing that we have this school motto."

"Plus Ultra, right? Thank you for answering the question. Goodbye, have a nice day."

"Thank you, I wish you the same, young monkeys."

By now, I had already come to my conclusion.

'Basically, he's an animal, so he might not see anything wrong with it, or he just doesn't attach any importance to it in general.'

Already walking in the corridor, while Toga was waiting for me at the main exit, I stopped in surprise. After all, a short girl with brown hair appeared in front of me.

I recognized her. It was Ochako Uraraka.

'But what Uraraka forgot here? Ah, probably to visit Midoriya... wait a minute...'

I noticed the discrepancy in the cause and effect of the events, because Midoriya was lying in the infirmary right now with all his limbs damaged.

'So she didn't save him from falling?'

"H-hello!" she blushed and gave me a full bow, which made me take a half step back in surprise.

"I wanted to come here to ask for points to be shared with you, since I couldn't even find your name on the list. But I was told that you were already enrolled in the hero course! I was so happy to hear that! Anyway, thank you for saving me!~"

She quickly rattled off all her words and she was already telling me the last part with her back turned to me and running towards the exit as fast as she could.

I was still trying to comprehend what was happening. When the meaning of her words reached me, I turned my sharp gaze to Toga.

When we got home, we started taking off our jackets and shoes. Noticing that she was still staring at me, I couldn't stand it.

"What's wrong?" She kept looking at me from the moment we left UA.

"Aren't you angry?" She asked me point-blank with her eyebrows slightly raised.

"Of course I'm angry." I took off my gloves and hat, starting to take off my jacket.

'Oh, where is that good old shy girl who always talked nicely to me... After the fever, she completely changed.'

I looked at her sadly, which made her even more confused.

"Sorry that you were called because of me and that I copied you without your permission..." Toga had already started listing the mistakes, but I interrupted her.

"Of course I'm angry about this, because I didn't learn this from you. But what angers me most is that you didn't tell me that your quirk had awakened!"

I had already managed to take off my jacket and put on my house slippers, and, turning to her, I continued.

"Do you even understand how much I've been worried all this time? Because of me, you fell into a fever, so that I couldn't find a place for myself and was worried about you the whole time.

Even after recovering, I took you to the hospital every week for this purpose, so that they could check your health and condition.

I thought all this time that I could have accidentally caused hidden injuries in you, a negative mutation of your Quirk, and that I made you go through all this! And now I find out that it was just your Quirk awakening!"

Looking at her guilty face and lowered head, she began to resemble her former self, which made me soften and decide to stop pouring out all my worries and emotions on her.

"I... I didn't know about this, I'm sorry... I thought I'd just surprise you after enrolling in UA, but I never thought about what you were going through." She lowered her head and clenched her hands into fists, forcing out the words.

*Drip*

*Drip-Drip*

Seeing a few drops on the floor beneath her, I realized she was crying.

'Ah, I can't stand to see someone cry, especially Toga... I thought I'd become a hero without weaknesses, but now I see that I have at least one.'

"Hey, come on. I've already let off some steam and I'm not angry anymore."

I hugged her neck and pressed her head to my chest.

"I'm just glad you're okay and healthy."

"Sorry... sorry... sorry..." She continued to cry and whispered it right into my chest.

'Just when I thought the old Toga was gone... I guess I should go easy on her. Her new personality may not be a mask, but that doesn't mean she's not a fragile little girl anymore.'

***

"Hey, look at my new uniform!" Toga started twirling around in her new school uniform in front of me. "Well, does it suits me?"

"Toga, you know everything suits you."

"Boo! Tell me already!" she pouted and leaned towards me, raising her displeased face with puffed out cheeks.

"Okay, okay. You look really cute in that uniform." I gave in, not wanting to ruin this good day, especially when she begged me like that.

"Hehe, thank you!" She did one last lap, and then we headed to school.

We were often glanced at on the subway. After all, the UA uniform was of high quality and quite well-known. Although it could also be that we're just too beautiful, considering that we've even been mistaken for idols.

As I stood right in front of UA's gates, the realization and the rush of emotions finally hit me.

'Now, the new story of my life will begin!'

"This is my hero academia!"
