MHA: A Villain's Leading Wish

Chapter 4: Aftermath

It was the next day, Shinji stayed up all night thinking about what happened and reflected on his actions.

He remembered how he let anger control him and how he seemed to never have control over his quirk when it mattered.

He wondered what those people had done to Daigo's body, maybe it was deeper in the trash can or someone used a quirk to erase it.

Just thinking about it made his quirk start reacting.

It had been like this all night, he constantly needed to control his emotions to avoid a tragedy from happening.

Shinji thought about calling the police, but he was scared.

What if they thought that he had killed his friend? What if they discovered that he was the one that killed those people?

He certainly didn't want to find out. Shinji then thought about Daigo's parents. He hadn't really talked to them a whole lot.

His parents didn't let him stay at his friend's house, and when he got out of school he had to be home in a flash.

Shinji's only time to hang out with his friend was once every three months.

This was the only time he was allowed to go to a park or just walk around the neighborhood while talking about heroes and the like.

He had to clean the entire house every day, cook everything if he wasn't in school, and was overall used to fix every problem his parents had.

Shinji fell deeply into thought right before the front door to his house was knocked on. He could hear the footsteps of his father approaching the door and opening it.

All he could hear was the faint sound of people talking, the words were indiscernible. When he concentrated on hearing what was being said, all sounds eventually became clearer.

Unsure about how this was possible, he remembered something and touched his ears. They were long and pointy, he was sure that this was because of his quirk.

He didn't mind it however, as he was very curious about who his father talking with. Listening closely, he immediately realized that his dad was talking with the police.

Shinji was petrified upon realizing this and wanted to hide somewhere or escape his room through the locked window. Panicking, he anxiously started pacing back and forth in his room.

He was under high stress and his quirk started acting up again. His hands were transforming, and he was pretty sure that his face was already that of the monster.

Footsteps were heard getting near his room, Shinji sat on his bed and started breathing deeply through his nose and exhaling slowly through his mouth to calm his nerves.

In real time, he could feel the transformation reversing, he was turning back into himself.

Just as it finished, the door to his room was opened before his dad entered with what seemed to be a detective.

"This is my son Shinji, please do whatever you need to do." With that being said, silence filled the room. Shinji was still with his eyes closed and breathing calmly.

The detective was a tall man with short black hair, he looked at the boy questioningly before beginning to talk.

"Hello, I'm detective Tsukauchi, how are you doing?" Tsukauchi got close to Shinji and looked at him straight in the eyes, expecting an answer.

Shinji had already opened his eyes, looking at the detective face to face, he couldn't help but be nervous. His heart was beating fast inside his chest but thankfully his quirk wasn't acting up.

"I'm fine," he meekly said.

Wasting no time, the detective got straight to the point. "yesterday do you remember being with your friend Daigo?"

"I wasn't with him." Shinji could feel the monster inside of him trying to get out and rip this man to pieces.

He spoke less than necessary because he felt something terrible would happen if he lost control of his emotions.

"What do you mean you weren't with him? Yesterday we found out what seemed to be your vomit close to the body of your friend. Do you mind explaining to me what that is all about?"

Detective Tsukauchi was a very calculative individual, he was noticing the changes of emotion happening in real time to Shinji.

Waiting a few seconds to compose himself, Shinji started speaking, "Yesterday I was coming home from afterschool because I hadn't finished an assignment."

He breathed in deeply before resuming his speech.

"While I was walking home I saw Daigo hanging out with some people, I thought that they were his friends. I continued to walk home but I decided to look what Daigo was doing with these people out of curiosity."

While Shinji was saying all of this, his father was standing crossed arms in the corner of the room. He was currently frowning heavily and waiting for his son to get to the point.

"I followed where they went but there wasn't anyone there. I saw what I gifted to my friend in a trash can and that's where I found Daigo's head."

Shinji took a moment to calm himself, he swore that if he kept on talking, his transformation would be inevitable. After calming down slightly, he continued.

"I swear I didn't kill my friend, I just panicked and didn't tell anyone, please, you have to believe me."

Detective Tsukauchi had written everything down on a notepad. Ignoring Shinji's words, he asked a question.

"Did you notice anything strange? Perhaps a person with a mutant quirk or someone suspicious walking around at that time?"

After hearing this question, Shinji simply answered, "no, I didn't see anyone strange."

"Alright, this was everything that I wanted to ask, thanks a lot for your cooperation."

The detective gave Shinji's father a look and they both headed outside. Shinji was left alone in the room with a racing heart.

Wanting to hear what they were talking about, he got close to the closed door and held his ear against it.

He desperately wished to be able to hear the conversation happening and the monster's ears quickly manifested.

Now that he could hear everything, he paid close attention to the talk between his father and the detective.

"Sir, I can assure you that your son had nothing to do with this murder, everything that he said was the truth. We're still in the process of investigating this incident but you can rest assured that your son is not a criminal."

"Alright, I get it, now get out of my house, you've wasted plenty of my time already."

Detective Tsukauchi didn't answer and instead left the house to continue the investigation.

When he left the house, he thought, 'is this incident related to the bodies found in a nearby warehouse? There seems to be a connection, I'll have to keep investigating.'

Back to the situation inside the house, Shinji's dad rushed to his son's room and when he entered it, all hell broke loose.

There hadn't been a time that his father had been more angry than this one. "Why the hell didn't you tell me about this you useless piece of shit!"

He kept saying profanities and started beating up Shinji who was curled up on the floor, trying to protect his head from the impacts of the hits.

-----

Shinji was laying on his bed after he finished showering, there were bruises and cuts all over his body.

Several hours had passed and it was currently night time. While he was laying there, he was lamenting that he couldn't do anything to defend himself.

The thought of fighting back scared him now more than ever as he knew that if he lost control of himself, his father might die.

Lost in his thoughts, all he could think of is how there must be a change in his way of living. He remembered the promise he made yesterday. To be a hero that protects the oppressed.

When he started thinking about it, an idea came to his mind. "Why wait until I'm old enough to be a hero? I know it's illegal but if I don't start now, I think I'll become crazy."

Shinji sat at the edge of the bed looking intently at the locked window. 'Should I do it?' As he thought about going out of the house, the monster inside of him started getting restless.

"I guess that is my signal." Without wasting any time, Shinji let his quirk out, ready to face what came with his decision.
