MHA: A Villain's Leading Wish

Chapter 2: Change

Having hot water sliding down his body was an amazing feeling for Shinji. You never know how much you take stuff for granted until you lose them. This was what he was feeling right now.

After Miki helped Shinji shower, she took it upon herself to clean the basement and leave it spotless before their parents returned.

While her sister was doing this, Shinji was having the time of his life watching heroes defeat villains like every other kid of his age.

This was the first time in a while that he truly could let his worries go and just focus on being a kid.

After an hour of binge watching hero videos, he decided to go outside into the backyard. He felt as if he hadn't been outside of his house for years.

The fresh air that was now filling his lungs revitalized him and made him wish that the moment never ended.

He was snapped out of his daze however, when he heard the garage of the house start opening. Shinji quickly went inside in search of his sister and found her searching for him.

Miki noticed Shinji and hurriedly said, "quick go inside the basement, don't let mom and dad find out that you went outside."

Shinji darted towards the basement while Miki went ahead to see her parents. Now inside the basement once again, he felt a sense of loss.

Looking around the area, he noticed several word puzzles and books that were now laying down on a clean mattress. He forgot about everything and started enjoying himself.

----

Two more weeks passed before he was finally allowed outside the basement by his dad. When he discovered that Shinji had gotten out of the basement while he was out, he became furious.

Miki admitted to letting his brother out but she wasn't punished for it, instead, her brother got all the blame and was beat up without mercy.

There was no way that this man was going to hurt his perfect quirkless daughter that was on the road to being a successful business woman.

Shinji was given a few days to rest locked away in his actual room which was a nice change of scenery. During this time, Shinji was well fed and allowed to even use the restroom.

By the fifth day of lockdown, he was finally released and told by his dad, "The school is starting to get worried that you haven't been showing up to classes. When you get there today I want to hear nothing from your teachers or principal, understood?"

Shinji simply nodded meekly before he was given his backpack and lunch. He went to the kitchen where his mom was scrolling on her phone.

This was the first time that he had seen his mother since he was locked in the basement. She seemed totally oblivious to the outside world and was only focused on the phone screen.

Her concentration was broken by the sound of the oven which signified that food was ready. She looked up from her phone and saw Shinji, the expression she made after made him very uncomfortable and sad.

She looked completely disgusted by her son. His mother then looked away from him and ignored his existence.

Shinji then walked out of the front door into the outside world, Japan looked more beautiful than ever.

He couldn't fully enjoy the beauty though as the memories of his mom looking at him as if he were garbage filled his mind.

The journey to school was a long one, without his parents taking him to school, he had to walk about twenty five minutes to arrive.

This was something that made his whole body feel incredible pain.

He hadn't exercised nor done a whole lot of moving around. His body was skinnier than ever and when he finally made it to class, he was gassed out.

Shinji had barely made it in time for the first class to begin.

The students and the teacher noticed his appearance but didn't comment about it and class went on as normal.

Hours passed and it was time for lunch break, where he finally got to see his friend Daigo. He was a boy with a mutant quirk that made him resemble a lizard.

They became friends when Shinji stood up for him when he was being bullied for his differences.

Because Shinji started associating with him, all the other kids avoided him like the plague and he became his only friend.

"Shinji, are you feeling okay now? I don't know how someone can be sick for a month and a half." Daigo looked very surprised as he was saying this, Shinji, however, was confused.

"What do you mean that I was sick for a month and a half? Who told you that?" Shinji questioned.

"Your mom told me about it. I went to visit you a lot of times but she always said that you're very sick, was she lying?"

Daigo made a shocked face when he finished speaking but Shinji quickly stopped him dead in his tracks.

"No, I was sick but I just didn't know that so much time passed, I was just surprised that's all," Shinji hurriedly explained.

"Oh, then it's alright, have you seen the new all might video where he saves all those people from a burning building! He's so cool!"

And just like that, Shinji had returned to his old life, or that's what he thought.

------

Eight years passed and now Shinji was looking a little bit more mature. He had put on some weight that made him look like a normal human now.

His parent's abuse had more than doubled now that he wasn't a little kid anymore. He often went to middle school wearing oversized hoodies and scarfs hiding his bruises and scars.

The only loving person in his family was his sister, which always defended him.

They hadn't gotten to see each other that often however as she had become independent and now owned her house and had a family of her own.

Shinji was walking through the streets of Musutafu Japan when he noticed the back of his friend, he seemed to be hanging out with a group of people.

He found it weird since from what he knew, he was his only friend. Shinji started smiling at the thought of Daigo finally expanding his social circle.

That same smile froze in place as he watched how he was lead down a dark alley by the group.

Shinji found it weird but didn't think much of it and started heading home.

He had stayed afterschool to complete a missing assignment after not showing up to school for a few days due to sickness.

He was in a hurry to get home and watch some hero videos but after a few minutes of walking, he stopped and thought.

'What if Daigo is hanging with the wrong type of people? Is he being bullied right now?'

This was what made him finally stop and turn around to check up on his dear friend.

Shinji ran to where he last saw Daigo and when he spotted the alley, he cautiously approached it.

He didn't want to misunderstand the situation and make it more embarrassing for his friend.

He stealthily looked around a corner expecting to see Daigo but he didn't see anything.

Shinji stepped into the open space and started looking around, it was a dead end. Where could've they went?

Just as he was about to give up, he carefully looked at the trash container and spotted something familiar.

It was the gift he had given Daigo for his tenth birthday, a hat of his favorite baseball team.

Shinji felt betrayed by his friend, had he really abandoned him and ran off with his new group of friends?

He approached the hat with dejected steps and when he took it, his eyes went wide with terror.

There was his friend, or at least part of him. Daigo's head was cleanly cut and showed an expression of unimaginable fear.

Shinji tripped as he was stepping back from the head and when he landed, he immediately started throwing up on the side.

The grief of his heart was immense, tears started streaming down his face as he cried inconsolably. Besides the sadness, he felt something else inside of him, something that had been dormant for a long time.

Shinji felt a familiar pull on his chest before an arm appeared out of it. There it was, the creature that had been tormenting his dreams since he got out of the basement.

Though he should care about his quirk being activated, he just couldn't bring himself to do so at the moment.

He continued crying for a while, and when he finally looked up, he was taken by the creature and lifted high into the air before being swallowed whole in a heartbeat.
