Chapter 93: 93: Just an awkward moment
As the night settled over San Fransokyo, the group split off to their respective accommodations. Tadashi headed home, while Go Go, Fred, and Wasabi returned to their dorms on campus.
Honey Lemon led Aiden, Nimbus, and Baymax toward her shared dormitory with an eager bounce in her step.
Kaela had taken her leave earlier, heading to her new apartment in the faculty housing nearby.
At Honey Lemon's Dorm:
The dorm was cozy and welcoming, decorated with a mix of pastel colors and photos that Honey had pinned to the walls. "Sorry if it's a bit cluttered," she said, setting down Aiden's bag. "My roommate's gone for the semester, so you'll have the whole place to yourself when I'm out."
"It's great, thanks for letting me crash here," Aiden replied, looking around as Nimbus hopped onto the couch, sniffing the air curiously.
Honey waved him off with a smile. "It's no problem! Plus, I've always wanted a dorm buddy who's as into science as I am."
After unpacking some essentials, Aiden spent time playing with Nimbus, tossing a small ball back and forth while the chinchilla darted across the room with astonishing speed.
Honey joined in briefly, her laughter echoing through the space as Nimbus performed a clumsy leap onto a cushion.
The casual energy led to some light conversation. Honey shared stories about her experiments at SFIT, often veering off into tangents about her love for chemistry. Aiden listened with genuine interest, sharing a few of his own projects from back home, though he avoided mentioning his quirk—it felt unnecessary here, in this new place where he was just a normal student.
After a while, Honey stretched and glanced at the clock. "I think I'm gonna hop in the shower," she said, standing up and gathering her things.
"You're welcome to raid the kitchen if you're hungry. I think I've got some leftover pasta in there."
"I'm good, thanks," Aiden said, giving her a thumbs-up. "Take your time."
As Honey disappeared into the bathroom, Aiden turned his attention to his holographic computer, which he had set up on the dining table. Nimbus curled up in the gap between his laps, occasionally twitching his nose as the soft glow of the screen illuminated the room.
Aiden activated the communication interface and tapped into the secure line he had designed to contact Torou
Toru's face appeared on the hologram, her cheerful expression instantly brightening Aiden's mood. She was in her room, wrapped in a blanket, her hair slightly damp from her own shower.
"Hey, you," Toru said, her voice filled with affection. "How's San Fransokyo?"
"It's amazing," Aiden replied, leaning back in his chair. "The city's like something out of a sci-fi movie, and the campus is incredible. You'd love it here."
Toru chuckled. "I'm sure I would. But I bet it's not as amazing as Paradis."
Aiden smirked. "Well, it's hard to beat home. How's everything there? Are the others behaving themselves?"
"Pretty much, you were the trouble maker here," Toru teased. "But yeah, everything's good. Seraphine's been keeping me company, and Celeste… well, she's being Celeste."
They laughed together, their conversation flowing naturally as they caught up on each other's day.
As Aiden and Toru chatted, the sound of the bathroom door opening barely registered in Aiden's mind. He was too engrossed in the call to notice Honey Lemon stepping into the dining room, her body wrapped in a towel with another towel turbaned around her hair.
"Aiden, what're you doing?" Honey asked, her voice curious and light as she walked up behind him. She leaned slightly over his shoulder to get a better look at the holographic screen.
Aiden froze. His brain short-circuited as he became acutely aware of Honey's presence, her damp hair dripping faintly and her proximity far closer than he was prepared for. His mouth opened, but no sound came out.
On the hologram, Toru's eyes widened as she took in the scene. "Aiden," she said, her voice laced with mock disapproval, "you've been gone for one day, and you're already with another girl?"
Aiden's heart dropped into his stomach. "W-Wait, Toru, it's not what it looks like!"
Honey blinked, tilting her head innocently. "Oh! Is this your girlfriend?" She waved at the screen. "Hi! I'm Honey Lemon. Nice to meet you!"
Toru raised an eyebrow, clearly enjoying Aiden's growing discomfort. "Honey Lemon, huh? Well, aren't you sweet."
Aiden groaned, running a hand down his face. "Toru, please. This is not what it looks like. Honey just got out of the shower."
"And decided to come out in just a towel?" Toru said, smirking. "Seems pretty suspicious to me."
Honey, catching on to the teasing tone, giggled. "Oh no, I didn't mean to interrupt! Sorry if this looks awkward."
Aiden turned to Honey, his face redder than ever. "Can you please… maybe… put on some clothes?"
Honey laughed, stepping back with her hands raised. "Okay, okay! I'll leave you two alone. Sorry, Toru! Nice to meet you!!" She disappeared into her room, still chuckling.
Toru couldn't stop laughing as Aiden tried to explain himself. "You're so easy to fluster," she teased, wiping a tear from her eye. "I'm just messing with you, Aiden."
Aiden sighed, slumping in his chair. "You're evil, you know that?"
"It's part of my charm," Toru said, grinning. "But seriously, she seems nice. Just… keep your eyes on me, okay?"
"Always," Aiden said softly, his sincerity cutting through the lingering humour. Toru's expression softened, and they spent a few more minutes talking before saying their goodnights.
When Honey re-emerged, fully dressed in an oversized sweater and shorts, she found Aiden cleaning up the table. "Sorry about that," she said, looking genuinely sheepish. "I didn't mean to cause any trouble."
"It's fine," Aiden said, though his cheeks still carried a faint flush. "Toru's just very good at teasing me."
"She seems sweet," Honey said, sitting down at the table. "You two make a cute couple."
"Thanks," Aiden said, smiling slightly. "She's amazing."
They fell into a comfortable silence, with Nimbus breaking it occasionally by squeaking and climbing up and down Aiden's lap. Honey reached over to pet him, her gentle touch earning an approving squeak.
"So," Honey said after a while, "think you're gonna survive your first week here?"
Aiden chuckled. "As long as no more surprises like that happen, I think I'll be fine."

The morning light spilled into the dorm room as Aiden stretched and yawned, sitting up on the couch where he had slept. Nimbus was perched on his chest, chirping happily as if it were his personal wake-up call.
Across the room, Honey Lemon bustled about, pulling her books and tools together in a neat stack, her energy already at full throttle.
"You ready for your first official class, Aiden?" she asked, flashing him a bright smile.
"As ready as I'll ever be," Aiden replied, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. He placed Nimbus gently on the couch and began gathering his things. Baymax, currently deactivated, sat securely in his briefcase form near the door.
The neuro-tech class was held in a sprawling lecture hall at SFIT. The walls were adorned with holographic displays showcasing intricate neural pathways, cybernetic implants, and cutting-edge AI designs.
The students filed in, chatting excitedly about their latest projects and theories.
Honey Lemon led Aiden to a seat near the front, where her usual group of friends had saved a spot for them. Tadashi, Go Go, Fred, and Wasabi greeted him warmly, their enthusiasm setting a positive tone for the morning.
The door at the front of the room opened, and in walked the professor, a tall woman with an air of authority and a sharp, analytical gaze. Her name was Professor Evelyn Monroe, a renowned expert in neural interfacing and AI development.
Her silver-streaked auburn hair was tied back in a loose bun, and her black-rimmed glasses glinted under the room's bright lights.
"Good morning, everyone," Professor Monroe began, her voice commanding yet approachable. "Welcome to Neuro-Tech Applications. Today, we'll dive into the integration of neural pathways with artificial intelligence to enhance human cognition and physical capabilities."
After a brief introduction to the day's topic, Professor Monroe scanned the room, her gaze landing on Aiden. She smiled knowingly. "We have a new face in the room today. Aiden, isn't it?"
Aiden nodded, caught slightly off guard but maintaining his composure. "Yes, ma'am."
"I've heard quite a bit about you from the administration," she continued. "Would you mind sharing your background with the class? What brings you to SFIT?"
Aiden stood, feeling every gaze in the room. "Well, I'm here for an internship to expand my understanding of advanced technology and innovation. Back home, I've worked on several projects involving energy manipulation and adaptive AI, among other things."
Professor Monroe raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Adaptive AI, you say? Could you elaborate?"
Aiden nodded, warming up to the topic. "One of my projects was an AI capable of analyzing its user's physical and emotional state to provide optimal assistance in various scenarios. For example, my AI companion, Baymax, is designed as a healthcare assistant but can also adapt to other roles based on situational needs."
"Fascinating," the professor said, gesturing for him to continue. "And what about neural interfacing? Have you explored that field?"
"A bit," Aiden admitted. "I've experimented with creating devices that use brainwave signals to control external systems. Nothing too complex, but enough to understand the potential applications."
Professor Monroe smiled, clearly impressed. "It seems we have a prodigy among us. Aiden, how about giving a short presentation on one of your projects?"

[A/N: Do note that Aiden ain't some super-level genius like Tony in terms of intelligence. He was pretty much a normal human teen back in his previous life.]
