Chapter 55: 55: Shopping spree/ An otaku's dream
As the car pulled into Nihombashi, the group's excitement was palpable. The bustling district was alive with the hum of conversation, the faint sound of traditional Japanese instruments playing in the background, and the occasional call from shopkeepers advertising their wares.
The streets were lined with quaint boutiques, colourful stalls, and towering department stores that seemed to beckon with endless possibilities.
Aiden parked the SUV in a nearby lot, and the group spilled out into the lively street, their presence immediately turning heads. It wasn't hard to see why.
Kaela, with her bouncy curls and infectious energy, was clad in a chic outfit of white cropped jeans and a pastel blouse that made her look effortlessly stylish.
Toru, in a flowy blue sundress, radiated newfound confidence, her bright smile drawing even more attention now that she was fully visible.
Elara's quiet elegance shone through in her minimalist ensemble of a beige coat over a lavender dress, paired with simple jewellery. S
eraphine, with her commanding yet approachable demeanour, sported a casual yet striking outfit of dark jeans and a leather jacket, her hair styled in loose waves.
And then there was Aiden—the tall, lean figure in a tailored black shirt and grey slacks, his dreadlocks tied back loosely. His mismatched blue and gold eyes seemed to glow under the city lights, a regal air about him that made passersby whisper in awe.
The group quickly became the centre of attention as they walked through the district, a striking combination of beauty, charisma, and foreign allure that was impossible to ignore.
The first shop they entered was a high-end boutique that Toru had pointed out. The sleek interiors were lined with racks of designer clothing, and the air smelled faintly of lavender.
"Alright, team," Kaela said, clapping her hands together. "Mission: find outfits that make us look even better—if that's possible."
Toru giggled, running her fingers along a rack of summer dresses. "Celeste would love this place. She's always talking about finding unique styles."
"Try this," Aiden said, holding up a floral skirt and matching blouse for Toru.
She gave him a playful eye-roll but took the outfit. "Fine, but only if you try something too."
"Deal," Aiden said with a smirk, grabbing a navy-blue blazer off a nearby rack.
Kaela and Seraphine were already deep in the aisles, each piling their arms with options. Elara, meanwhile, had found a corner displaying delicate accessories and was carefully picking out a set of earrings.
"Next stop, traditional stalls," one of the cried out.
Outside, the group wandered into an area filled with small traditional stalls selling everything from handmade crafts to street food.
Seraphine stopped at a stall selling kimonos and gestured for Toru to join her. "This one matches your vibe perfectly," she said, holding up a light green kimono with intricate cherry blossom embroidery.
Toru gasped. "It's beautiful!"
Aiden joined them, tilting his head as he looked at it. "I can already see you in it. You'd look stunning."
Toru blushed, muttering a soft "Thanks" as she hugged the kimono close.
Meanwhile, Kaela was sampling skewers from a food stall. "Guys, you have to try these," she said between bites. "They're incredible."
Elara, sipping a matcha latte she'd picked up, chuckled. "Kaela, you're going to run out of room for actual lunch."
"Never!" Kaela declared dramatically, earning laughter from the group.
As the group moved from shop to shop, more people began to notice them. Shoppers paused mid-step to admire the striking individuals walking among them, whispering in awe at their foreign features and magnetic presence.
"Who are they?" a young woman whispered to her friend. "They look like models."
"Or celebrities," another added.
Aiden, noticing the growing attention, leaned toward Kaela. "We're causing a scene."
Kaela grinned. "Of course we are. Look at us."
Toru tugged on Aiden's sleeve. "Should we split up?"
"No way," Seraphine said, her protective instincts kicking in. "Safety in numbers."
Aiden shrugged. "Let them stare. We've got shopping to do."
After a whirlwind of trying on clothes, admiring antiques, and buying handmade jewellery, the group found a quiet corner with benches to rest and enjoy snacks. Aiden handed Toru a taiyaki filled with custard while Kaela devoured her second skewer.
"This is so good," Toru said, her eyes lighting up as she took a bite.
"Better than the ones in Paradis?" Aiden teased.
"Definitely," she said with a laugh.
Seraphine leaned back on the bench, her shopping bags piled at her feet. "I could get used to this. Tokyo has such a nice vibe."
Elara nodded, sipping on another cup of matcha. "It's been a while since I've felt this relaxed. Good choice, Aiden."
As they prepared to head to the next store, a small group of teenage girls approached Aiden shyly.
"Excuse me," one of them said in halting English. "You… very handsome. Can we take picture?"
Kaela burst into laughter. "Looks like you've got fans, Aiden."
Aiden sighed but gave the girls a charming smile. "Sure."
The girls giggled as they posed next to him, and one even asked for his autograph. Toru crossed her arms, watching with mock annoyance.
"Jealous?" Kaela whispered to her, nudging her playfully.
Toru scoffed, but her blush betrayed her. "No!"

[Location: Akihabara]
The group's car pulled into Akihabara, the neon lights of the vibrant district flickering even brighter in the early evening glow. Everywhere they looked, banners and posters of anime characters decorated the streets. Cosplayers walked in groups, their costumes ranging from intricately detailed to adorably simple.
"Whoa…" Aiden leaned forward in his seat, his mismatched eyes widening as he took in the scene. "Is this… Is this what I think it is?"
Toru grinned, catching his enthusiasm. "Yep! Looks like there's an AnimeCon happening right now."
Kaela's eyes lit up as well. "Oh my gosh! This is perfect! We have to join in!"
Elara chuckled softly, shaking her head. "This wasn't in the plan, but it's hard to say no when the streets look this alive."
Seraphine tilted her head, observing a group of cosplayers as they posed for pictures. "I guess it wouldn't hurt to blend in… if we're doing this properly."
Aiden shot out of the car like a lightning bolt. "What are we waiting for? Cosplay store, here we come!"
Inside a top-tier cosplay store, the group was overwhelmed by the sheer variety of costumes available. The store was a paradise for any anime fan, with walls lined with outfits from classic to modern series, props hanging from displays, and mannequins dressed in iconic ensembles.
"Alright, team," Aiden said, clapping his hands like an excited child. "We're diving into this world, so let's pick outfits that scream epic."
After sifting through several options, Aiden settled on cosplaying as Lelouch Lamperouge from Code Geass. He donned the iconic black and gold Zero outfit, complete with a flowing cape and mask. The outfit perfectly complemented his regal bearing, and his glowing mismatched eyes added an almost eerie authenticity to the character.
"This is perfect," Aiden said, adjusting the cape with a flourish. "A tactical genius with a dramatic flair? That's me."
Toru chose to cosplay as Nezuko Kamado from Demon Slayer. She wore the pink-patterned kimono with the green bamboo muzzle prop hanging loosely around her neck. Her short green hair gave the outfit a unique twist, but it suited her cheerful and slightly shy demeanor.
"You look adorable!" Kaela said, snapping a picture of Toru as she twirled in her kimono.
Toru blushed. "Thanks! I think Nezuko's sweetness matches me, don't you think?"
Kaela, always the vibrant and energetic one, chose Yoruichi Shihōin from Bleach. Her golden two-piece battle outfit highlighted her athletic build, and she even styled her hair into a high ponytail reminiscent of the character.
The confident grin on her face made her look like she'd stepped straight out of the anime.
"I feel like a queen in this," Kaela said, striking a fighting pose.
"You are a queen," Aiden teased.
Seraphine picked Erza Scarlet from Fairy Tail, donning the classic Heart Kreuz armour. The silver and blue outfit enhanced her commanding presence, and she carried a lightweight replica sword to complete the look.
"This feels… oddly natural," Seraphine said, testing a swing of the sword.
Aiden laughed. "Of course it does. Erza is the definition of a protective badass, and that's you to a T."
Elara opted for Shinobu Kocho from Demon Slayer. Her butterfly-patterned haori and elegant black uniform gave her an ethereal air. She even braided a portion of her hair to match the character's soft yet composed appearance.
"This is quite comfortable," Elara said, examining herself in the mirror.
"And beautiful," Toru added, admiring the flowing fabric.
Decked out in their costumes, the group made their way into the heart of AnimeCon. The atmosphere was electric—vendors sold anime merchandise, cosplayers posed for photos, and the sound of popular anime theme songs echoed through the streets.
Aiden was visibly the most pumped, darting from one attraction to the next with childlike glee.
"Look at that Gundam statue!" he exclaimed, pointing to a life-sized replica towering over one of the main squares.
Kaela chuckled. "You're like a kid in a candy store, Aiden."
"Of course I am!" he said, grinning ear to ear. "This is a dream come true!"
As they wandered, people constantly approached them for pictures. Aiden, in his striking Lelouch outfit, was especially popular.
"Zero! Can I take a photo with you?" a fan asked.
"Absolutely," Aiden replied, striking Lelouch's signature pose with a dramatic sweep of his cape.
Kaela, in her Yoruichi costume, drew attention as well. "Yoruichi-sama, can you show us a pose?" a group of cosplayers dressed as Bleach characters asked.
Kaela laughed. "You got it!" She crouched into a mock attack stance, earning cheers and applause.
Toru's Nezuko costume had kids flocking to her. "You're so cute!" one little girl said, tugging on Toru's sleeve.
"Thank you!" Toru said, crouching to take a picture with the girl.
Seraphine's Erza outfit and Elara's Shinobu cosplay turned heads too, with other attendees complimenting their detailed costumes.
The group visited themed cafes, bought rare collectibles, and even tried out an anime trivia booth, where Aiden's otaku knowledge shone.
"What's the name of the island where Luffy found Zoro in One Piece?" the host asked.
"Shells Town," Aiden answered instantly.
"You're good!" the host said, handing him a prize—a plushie of Chopper.
Aiden handed it to Toru. "For you."
Toru hugged it, her eyes sparkling. "Thank you, Aiden!"
At one point, the group found a professional cosplay photoshoot booth and decided to document their costumes.
"Alright, dramatic poses, everyone!" Kaela said, leaping into action.
The photographer laughed. "You guys are naturals."
The resulting pictures were a mix of epic and hilarious, with Aiden's over-the-top Lelouch pose stealing the show.
As the evening wore on, the group found a quiet spot to relax and enjoy the view of Akihabara at night, the neon lights reflecting off their costumes.
"This was amazing," Aiden said, leaning back against a bench. "Thank you guys for indulging my otaku side."
"It was fun," Elara said, sipping a bubble tea. "I didn't expect to enjoy it this much."
Kaela grinned. "We should do this again sometime. Maybe next year's AnimeCon?"
"Absolutely," Aiden said. "But next time, I'm going full Gundam."
