Chapter 101: 101: A date [I]
As the holographic image of Aiden faded from her screen, Toru leaned back in her chair, letting out a deep sigh.
The conversation had been heavier than she expected, but also strangely liberating.
She had told Aiden it was okay—because it truly was. Still, her thoughts were a whirlwind as she processed the emotions she had kept bottled up for the past few days.
She stared at the ceiling, her fingers tapping idly on the armrest of her chair.
The previous days flashed through her mind like a movie reel, starting with the moment Celeste returned from her internship with Ryukyu.
[A couple days before:]
It had been late evening when Celeste burst into their shared apartment, visibly annoyed. Toru, who had been scrolling through social media, looked up in surprise.
"Rough day?" Toru asked, sitting up.
"You have no idea," Celeste muttered, tossing her bag onto the couch. She adjusted her golden-trimmed glasses, her expression a mix of frustration and exhaustion.
"What happened?"
Celeste flopped onto the couch and groaned. "Mina happened."
Toru raised an eyebrow. "Mina? What about her?"
Celeste sat up, brushing a lock of her black-and-white hair out of her face. "She's been fangirling about Aiden. Nonstop. All. Day. She keeps talking about how 'amazing' he is, how 'regal' he looks, and how she's 'totally crushing' on him. It's driving me insane."
Toru stifled a laugh. "I mean, can you blame her? Aiden's... well, Aiden."
"That's not the point," Celeste said, shooting her a pointed look. "She's serious about it. She even hinted that she'd be okay sharing him if it came down to that. You might want to brace yourself because if Mina ever bumps into you, she's definitely going to start bothering you about it."
Toru blinked, her amusement fading. "Wait, seriously?"
"Dead serious," Celeste replied. "And knowing Mina, she won't be subtle about it."
Toru sighed, leaning back. "Great. Just what I needed."
The very next day, Toru had been out on patrol with Yoroi Musha, her internship mentor.
It had been an uneventful day, and after finishing her duties, she decided to treat herself to a cup of coffee at a nearby café.
As she stepped inside, her eyes scanned the room for a quiet corner. That's when she spotted a familiar face sitting at a table by the window—Mina.
"Oh, hey, Toru!" Mina called out, waving enthusiastically.
Toru hesitated for a moment before sighing and walking over. "Hey, Mina. Fancy seeing you here."
"Right? It's like fate or something!" Mina said cheerfully, patting the seat across from her. "Sit! Let's catch up!"
Toru smiled politely and sat down, ordering a drink from the passing waiter. "So, how's your internship going?"
"Awesome!" Mina said, her eyes sparkling. "Ryukyu is amazing. And I get to see Celeste sometimes, which is fun. She's so cool, but you already know that."
Toru chuckled. "Yeah, Celeste is great."
They chatted for a while, catching up on their lives and hero work. But Toru could feel it coming—the shift in conversation.
And sure enough, Mina's expression turned sheepish as she leaned forward, resting her chin on her hands.
"Hey, Toru..." Mina began, her voice taking on a pleading tone.
Toru raised an eyebrow. "What?"
"I, uh... I need to talk to you about something," Mina said, her cheeks turning pink.
Toru sighed. "Let me guess. Aiden?"
Mina nodded vigorously, her antennae bouncing. "Yeah. Look, I know he's your boyfriend, and I totally respect that! But... I really like him."
Toru frowned slightly. "Mina, I don't think this is—"
"Wait, wait! Hear me out!" Mina interrupted, her tone desperate. She clasped her hands together and leaned closer, her wide eyes sparkling with sincerity.
"I know it's a lot to ask, but... can you, maybe, consider sharing him? Like, I'd be totally fine being a sidepiece or a concubine or whatever you want to call it! I just want a chance to be close to him."
Toru blinked, stunned into silence. Of all the things she expected Mina to say, this wasn't one of them.
"Mina, do you even hear yourself right now?" Toru asked, her tone incredulous.
"Yes! And I mean every word!" Mina said, her voice rising slightly. "I know it sounds crazy, but Aiden is... different. He's not just some guy.
He's kind, brilliant, and, let's be honest, ridiculously hot.
And I can tell he really cares about the people around him."
Toru stared at her, unsure whether to laugh or be concerned. Mina's sincerity was disarming, and Toru couldn't deny that she had a point.
Aiden was special—so special that it wasn't surprising he had this effect on people.
"Look, I'm not trying to take him away from you," Mina continued, her voice softer now. "I just... I want to be part of his world, even if it's just a small part. Please, Toru."
Toru sighed, rubbing her temples. "Mina, this isn't something I can just decide on a whim."
"I know," Mina said, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I had to ask. I couldn't keep it bottled up anymore."
Toru looked at her, seeing the vulnerability in her expression.
It was clear Mina wasn't joking or being flippant—she was genuinely smitten.
That night, as Toru lay in bed, she replayed the conversation in her mind. Mina's words echoed in her ears, and she found herself thinking about her own relationship with Aiden.
She loved him deeply, but she also knew that his path in life was far from ordinary.
Celeste's warning, Mina's plea—it all made sense now. Aiden's charisma and compassion were bound to attract people to him, and as much as Toru wanted to keep him all to herself, she knew that wasn't realistic.
It wasn't easy, but she made a decision. If sharing Aiden meant keeping him happy and surrounded by love, then so be it. She would support him, no matter what.
Back in the present, Toru smiled to herself, feeling a sense of peace. She had given Aiden her blessing because she trusted him, and because she loved him enough to let him find happiness in his own way.
"Besides," she muttered to herself with a grin, "if Mina thinks she's getting off easy, she's got another thing coming."

[Back to the present]
The first rays of morning sunlight filtered through Aiden's window, casting a warm golden hue across his room.
For the first time in days, Aiden felt an unburdened lightness in his chest as he stirred awake.
The conversation with Toru last night played on his mind, her understanding words a balm to his turmoil. The guilt and doubt that had weighed on him had been lifted, replaced with a sense of clarity and purpose.
Stretching his arms above his head, Aiden climbed out of bed, feeling an unusual spring in his step.
After his usual routine of tidying himself up, he headed to the kitchen with Nimbus trotting beside him.
The chinchilla was unusually energetic, perhaps picking up on Aiden's positive mood.
"Good morning, Aiden," Baymax greeted, his rotund figure stationed near the countertop.
"You seem more energized than usual today. Your vitals indicate improved emotional well-being."
"Morning, Baymax," Aiden replied with a chuckle, grabbing ingredients from the fridge. "Yeah, I guess you could say I've got a better handle on things now. Let's channel that energy into something productive—like making breakfast."
Baymax tilted his head. "An excellent idea. Studies show that preparing and sharing meals can strengthen bonds and improve mental health."
"Exactly!" Aiden grinned, cracking eggs into a bowl. "Alright, let's whip up something great. Nimbus, you're on taste-testing duty."
Nimbus squeaked enthusiastically, hopping onto the counter and sniffing curiously at the ingredients.
With Baymax's assistance, Aiden moved efficiently around the kitchen. Pancake batter was mixed, eggs were scrambled, and the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air.
Baymax proved surprisingly adept at handling utensils, while Nimbus ensured no stray crumbs went to waste.
"Baymax, careful with that spatula," Aiden said as the robot flipped a pancake with robotic precision.
"Understood," Baymax replied, his movements calculated but oddly endearing.
Within thirty minutes, the kitchen table was adorned with a feast of fluffy pancakes, golden scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and an assortment of fruits.
Aiden took a step back, hands on his hips, and admired their handiwork.
"Not bad," he said with a satisfied nod. "Now for the real challenge—waking up Honey."
"..."
Carrying a neatly arranged plate of food, Aiden made his way to Honey's room, with Baymax trailing behind him.
Nimbus, sensing the impending mischief, scurried ahead and perched on the doorframe.
Honey was still sound asleep, her blonde hair splayed across the pillow and a peaceful expression on her face. Aiden paused for a moment, a small smile tugging at his lips.
She looked so serene that he almost felt guilty about what he was about to do.
Almost.
"Baymax, you ready?" Aiden whispered.
Baymax nodded. "Activating wake-up protocol."
The robot produced a small speaker from his chest and began playing a blaring trumpet tune that could rival a military reveille. Honey jolted awake, her eyes snapping open as she sat upright, her hands flying to her ears.
"Aiden!" she exclaimed, her voice a mix of surprise and indignation.
Aiden laughed, setting the plate of food on her bedside table. "Good morning, sunshine! Time to rise and shine."
Honey groaned, rubbing her eyes. "You could've just knocked, you know."
"Where's the fun in that?" Aiden teased, handing her a fork. "Here, I made breakfast. Eat up, because you're gonna need your energy."
Honey blinked at him, her curiosity piqued. "Why? What's going on?"
"Well," Aiden said, leaning casually against the doorframe, "we're going on a date. So hurry up and finish your food, then put on something nice."
Honey's eyes widened in surprise. "A date?"
"Yup," Aiden said with a grin. "Just the two of us. Thought it was about time we had some fun outside the lab."
As Aiden left to give her some privacy, Honey stared at the plate of food in front of her, her thoughts swirling.
A date.
The idea filled her with excitement and nerves, but a nagging doubt crept into her mind.
She set her fork down and took a deep breath. What if she had crossed a line? What if her growing closeness with Aiden had unintentionally seduced him into straying from his relationship with Toru?
Her chest tightened at the thought. She didn't want to be the reason for any trouble between them.
When Aiden came back to check on her, he immediately noticed her troubled expression. "Honey? You okay?"
She hesitated, then sighed. "Aiden, are you sure this is... okay? I mean, what about Toru? I don't want to cause any problems between you two."
Aiden's expression softened, and he sat on the edge of her bed. "Honey, listen. I talked to Toru about all of this last night. She knows what's going on, and she's okay with it. Actually, she encouraged me to explore this."
Honey's eyes widened. "She did?"
"Yeah," Aiden said with a nod. "She's amazing, honestly. She understands that life's complicated, and she trusts me to handle this the right way. So you don't have to feel guilty about anything. Just... be yourself."
Honey's shoulders relaxed, a small smile forming on her lips. "Okay. Thanks, Aiden."
"Anytime," he said, standing up. "Now, finish your food and get ready. We've got a date to enjoy."
As he left the room, Honey's heart felt lighter.
She still couldn't believe how understanding Toru was, but she was grateful.
