Memories of Bali

Chapter 26: The Reckoning

The warehouse was cloaked in shadows when Alexei arrived. His car came to a screeching halt at the edge of the compound, and he stepped out, dressed in black and armed to the teeth. His jaw was set, his eyes filled with cold determination.

Mikhail had ignored Alexei's order to stay behind and followed him, flanking him as they approached the building.

"They've got at least a dozen men inside," Mikhail whispered, scanning the perimeter.

"Good," Alexei replied flatly. "They'll regret stepping into my world."

Mikhail hesitated. "What's the plan?"

Alexei's lips curled into a grim smile. "We go in. Fast. Loud. And we take Hana back."

Without waiting for a response, Alexei moved forward, his steps silent despite the urgency in his movements.

Inside the warehouse, Hana's heart raced as she heard the faint rumble of cars and the distant sound of footsteps outside. Ivan, seated casually on a chair across the room, glanced at the phone in his hand.

"He's here," Ivan said with a smirk. He stood, signaling to his men. "Get ready. Make sure he doesn't make it past the front door."

The men dispersed, armed and ready. Ivan turned his attention back to Hana.

"I hope you're ready for a show," he said mockingly. "Your precious Alexei is about to lose everything."

Hana glared at him. "You underestimate him."

Ivan chuckled darkly. "And you overestimate him. Love makes you foolish."

Before Hana could respond, a thunderous explosion rocked the building. The front door burst open, and Alexei stormed in, firing with precision. Mikhail followed closely behind, covering Alexei's blind spots as the two men worked seamlessly to take down Ivan's guards.

Hana's heart leapt at the sight of Alexei. Relief and fear mingled as she watched the chaos unfold.

Alexei moved like a predator, his focus unshakable. He ducked behind a stack of crates, firing at a guard who tried to flank him. Blood sprayed as the man crumpled to the ground.

"Alexei!" Mikhail called out, tossing him a fresh magazine.

Alexei reloaded smoothly, his gaze fixed on the stairs leading to the room where Hana was being held. He signaled to Mikhail, who nodded and moved to cover the lower level.

As Alexei ascended the stairs, Ivan's men fired from above, but Alexei was quicker. He returned fire, taking them out one by one. His cold efficiency sent a clear message nothing would stop him from reaching Hana.

Ivan heard the gunfire drawing closer and clenched his jaw. "It seems your knight in shining armor is more determined than I thought," he muttered to Hana.

He pulled her to her feet, holding a knife to her throat as the door burst open. Alexei stepped inside, his gun trained on Ivan.

"Let her go," Alexei said, his voice low and dangerous.

Ivan smirked. "You're too late, Alexei. You've already lost."

"Do I look like I'm losing?" Alexei shot back, his tone icy.

Hana's eyes darted to Alexei, silently pleading for him to be careful.

"Drop the knife, Ivan," Alexei continued. "Or I'll drop you."

Ivan's smirk faltered as he felt the weight of Alexei's threat. But instead of surrendering, he tightened his grip on Hana. "You think you can just waltz in here and take back what's mine?"

"She was never yours," Alexei growled.

Without warning, Alexei fired, the bullet grazing Ivan's arm. Ivan screamed in pain, dropping the knife. Hana stumbled forward as Alexei rushed to her, pulling her behind him.

Ivan, clutching his wounded arm, glared at Alexei with pure hatred. "This isn't over," he hissed.

Alexei aimed his gun at Ivan's head, his finger on the trigger. "Oh, it is. You just don't know it yet."

But before Alexei could pull the trigger, Hana grabbed his arm. "Don't," she whispered.

Alexei hesitated, his gaze flickering to Hana. Her eyes were filled with fear and desperation.

"He's not worth it," she said softly.

For a moment, Alexei seemed torn, but then he lowered his gun.

"Get out of my sight," Alexei said coldly to Ivan. "And pray I don't change my mind."

Ivan staggered to his feet, his face pale. "You'll regret this," he spat before disappearing into the shadows.

Back at the villa, Hana sat quietly on the couch, her hands still trembling. Alexei handed her a glass of water and knelt in front of her, his expression uncharacteristically soft.

"Are you hurt?" he asked.

Hana shook her head. "I'm fine."

Alexei cupped her face in his hands, his eyes searching hers. "I'm sorry I couldn't protect you."

"You saved me," Hana said, her voice barely above a whisper.

Alexei nodded but said nothing. Deep down, he knew this wasn't over. Ivan wouldn't give up so easily, and neither would Alexei.

For now, though, he was content knowing Hana was safe.

"I promise," Alexei said quietly, his voice filled with resolve. "No one will ever take you from me again."

Hana looked into his eyes and saw a storm brewing beneath the surface. She knew Alexei's world was dangerous, but she also knew there was no escaping it now.
