Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Ripples of Power
The World Watches
The world had changed.
The footage spread like wildfire—shaky phone recordings, street cameras, and news broadcasts capturing the moment that would redefine everything.
It started with Clark, standing firm despite his wounds. His eyes burned—literally—as he unleashed his first heat vision blast. Raw, uncontrolled, but deadly.
Then came the gunshot.
Clark's body jerked back, his cocky smirk fading into a blank stare as he collapsed.
Gwen's scream echoed in the night.
Then came Kara.
Descending like an avenging goddess, she landed with a force that cracked the ground. The terrorists barely had time to react before she unleashed hell.
The videos showed it all.
The way she moved—too fast for the eye to follow. The way she crushed a man's skull in her grip like it was nothing. The way her heat vision reduced another to ash, her fury unrelenting.
Some called her a hero.
Others called her a monster.
But the world agreed on one thing.
She wasn't human.
And neither was the boy she carried away into the night.
The Hospital Struggles
Kara didn't land gently.
The hospital's rooftop shattered beneath her boots as she rushed inside, Clark in her arms.
"HELP HIM!" she shouted, voice raw with panic.
Doctors froze, eyes widening at the sight of a bloodied, unconscious boy being held by a woman.
One of the senior surgeons snapped out of his daze. "Get him to the ER! Move!"
They rushed forward with a stretcher.
But Kara refused to let go.
"Miss—"
"Fix him!" she demanded, her grip tightening around Clark.
A nurse hesitated before gently placing a hand on Kara's shoulder. "We will. But you need to let him go."
Kara gritted her teeth, then—reluctantly—laid Clark down.
The doctors moved fast. Cutting away his shirt, checking his vitals—
Then they realized something was wrong.
His wound wasn't bleeding.
His skin resisted the scalpel.
An IV needle shattered against his arm.
"What the hell?" one of the nurses whispered.
Kara's stomach dropped. She knew why. Clark was becoming like her.
"Why isn't it working?" she demanded.
The lead surgeon hesitated. "We… don't know. His body is rejecting every treatment. It's like his cells are—"
Changing.
Kara clenched her fists. "Will he wake up?"
The doctor sighed. "That… depends on him."
Kara's heart pounded as she looked at Clark's still face.
He looked so peaceful.
She should have been relieved.
But deep down?
She was terrified.
The World Reacts
The hospital was in chaos.
And outside?
News vans. Reporters. Government officials already gathering.
Inside a dimly lit conference room in Washington, high-ranking officials sat around a large screen. Watching. Rewinding. Analyzing.
"We need to find them. Both of them."
A voice cut through the discussion. "We already have someone on it."
The screen shifted to Nick Fury.
He watched the footage with an impassive gaze.
Then, finally, he spoke.
"Send a team."
Fury's Arrival
Kara sat beside Clark's hospital bed, her fingers clenched together, her mind racing.
She could hear the commotion outside—the whispers, the footsteps, the uncertainty.
Then… the door opened.
A tall man in a long black coat stepped inside. One eye covered, the other sharp as a knife.
Kara's body tensed. She didn't know who he was, but she recognized the type. Authority. Power. Danger.
"Miss Kent." His voice was deep, unreadable. "You've caused quite the stir."
Kara's eyes narrowed.
"Who the hell are you?"
Nick Fury smirked. "Someone who needs answers. And I think you have them."
Kara stood up slowly, stepping between him and Clark. Protective. Unyielding.
"I don't owe you anything," she said coldly.
Fury chuckled. "No, but the world might think otherwise." He glanced toward the window, where news crews were already swarming. "After all, you just declared yourselves to the planet in the loudest way possible."
Kara's jaw tightened.
"Stay away from us."
Fury studied her for a moment. Then, with a slight nod, he turned to leave.
But before stepping out, he paused.
"You think you're the only ones out there?" he asked, not looking back.
Kara didn't answer.
Fury smirked. "You're not."
With that, he was gone.
Kara gritted her teeth, looking down at Clark's still form.
Something told her that life would never be the same again.
