Chapter 98: Chapter 98: Senpai’s Taste and Enrollment at Hyakkaou Private Academy

"Senpai, let's go."

Utaha was pulled along towards the dimly lit sports field.

"There aren't any festival stalls or activities over there… Are you planning something indecent, Kouhai?"

Utaha teased.

"If Senpai is up for it, I'd be happy to oblige."

Haruto replied casually.

Utaha was momentarily choked up, her face unconsciously turning red in the dim light.

"You completely lack the restraint of a typical light novel protagonist. There's no satisfaction in teasing you at all," she muttered softly.

The two gradually disappeared into the night.

During the day, the sports field at Sobu High occasionally hosted small events and games.

But at night, due to insufficient lighting, it was simply closed off.

At this moment, the vast sports field had only two people, Haruto and Utaha.

"Kouhai, do you enjoy this kind of secluded atmosphere in the dark?"

Utaha asked with a smile.

This ambiance was indeed quite heart-stirring.

Haruto simply smiled without responding.

After strolling for a while, he suddenly stopped. Utaha also halted, looking at him curiously.

'This kind of private atmosphere… could it be…?'

Scenes of youthful romance flashed through her mind.

Confession? Or perhaps something even more R18…

Just as she was speculating, Haruto pointed upward.

She looked up and saw only the silent night sky, a full moon hanging high, and countless stars scattered across the vast expanse.

While she was still puzzled—

Boom!

Suddenly, a brilliant firework exploded in the sky, igniting vibrant colors.

Utaha: !

Boom! Boom! Boom!

A series of fireworks bloomed across the sky, turning the once quiet night into a dazzling spectacle.

The colorful lights cascaded down from above.

Fleeting, yet so magnificent that they left an eternal impression on the heart.

Utaha gazed up at the grand fireworks display, unconsciously letting out an awe-filled "Wow..."

It took her a while to snap back to reality.

"There wasn't supposed to be a fireworks show in the school festival schedule. Kouhai, was this your doing?"

She asked in surprise, raising her voice over the noise of the fireworks.

Haruto, of course, heard her.

With his level of hearing, fireworks were hardly an obstacle.

However—

"Senpai, what did you say?"

Haruto responded loudly, pretending not to hear.

Seeing this, Utaha suddenly laughed. Even if he didn't answer, she already knew the truth.

She had mentioned fireworks just earlier.

Yet, after that, Haruto had been with her the entire time, he had no opportunity to set anything up. And yet, he knew the fireworks would happen at this moment and had brought her here in advance.

That meant… he had arranged everything beforehand.

Utaha sighed—so "hearts in sync" really did exist in reality.

When the spectacular fireworks display finally ended—

"Kouhai, now that it's quiet, listen carefully."

She spoke seriously.

"For the rest of my life, can I invite you to be the protagonist until the story reaches its final chapter?"

It was a somewhat awkward confession, but it was Utaha's most sincere invitation.

Looking at her serious expression, Haruto really wanted to accept immediately.

However…

"Senpai, can you accept a protagonist who's just a little bit… unfaithful?"

Haruto asked cautiously.

Although keeping a harem a secret from Utaha forever was doable, he felt that her heartfelt confession, made with such courage, shouldn't be met with a lie.

(T/N: I'll beat your ass if you do that.

A harem where the heroines don't know that they're part of a harem (simply doesn't know that they share one man), isn't a harem; its fuckin called infidelity.)

As he expected, Utaha got angry.

"That kind of statement… you're not even a lowly insect, no, even a microorganism is overestimating you! You're nothing but plankton!"

Her long-dormant sharp tongue suddenly resurfaced.

Before, Haruto had seemed almost perfect in her eyes. Unparalleled good looks, an unbelievably noble dream of protecting all humanity, a delicate yet gentle personality, and a way of caring for her so meticulous it felt like mind-reading.

Because of that, when she was with him, she not only refrained from using her sharp tongue but also made an effort to restrain herself.

When faced with someone perfect, she wanted to appear perfect as well.

But tonight, that perfect image was completely shattered.

Shattered beyond repair.

Haruto shrank his neck, prepared to endure her scolding.

He had already resolved himself that no matter how angry Utaha got, no matter how she vented her frustration, he would accept everything.

And afterward, he would do everything in his power to win her back.

However, after her brief outburst, she didn't leave in a fit of rage as he had expected.

"Senpai… if you're still angry, you can hit me a couple of times."

Haruto weakly offered.

Utaha rolled her eyes.

"Forget it. Letting out some pent-up sharp remarks cheered me up, so I'll let you off this time."

Haruto's eyes widened.

That easy!?

"Don't give me that 'That easy!?' look! I'm actually super petty! If I catch you with another girl, I'll throw a fit!"

Utaha huffed.

"Alright, no matter how much senpai makes a fuss, I'll take responsibility and bring you back to my side."

Haruto chuckled and made his promise.

"Hmph, at least you know what's good for you. Then I'll reluctantly… accept you as my protagonist."

Haruto took off his headset.

Haruto turned off his mic.

Shiro: !?

Shiro, having been ignored for the second time, shut off her computer in a fit of rage and stormed out of her apartment.

She was the one who arranged the fireworks, after all!

So infuriating!

With a loud bang, she slammed her apartment door shut.

Then she stood outside the neighboring apartment, expertly picking the lock with a hairpin.

Shortly after, a miserable scream echoed from inside.

—The next morning!

Don't ask why we skipped straight to morning. Some things about senpai are simply not meant for outsiders to know.

(T/N: I ain't writing steamy sex scene cuz we just did it some earlier chapter ago. Also the stories focus ain't smut, so deal with that.)

At dawn's first light, Haruto arrived at a new location.

Hyakkaou Private Academy.

Today was his first day as an exchange student at this elite academy of high-stakes gambling.

The school gates were even grander and more luxurious than those of Sobu High.

However, this wasn't mere flaunting of wealth; it was simply because the materials used were truly that rare and precious.

The academy's uniform jackets were a vivid crimson, as striking as fresh blood. As students poured in, the countless red silhouettes were impossible to ignore.

The color red, capable of stirring one's deepest desires.

Haruto, however, wasn't wearing a uniform. He had come in casual clothes.

After all, he didn't have a Hyakkaou uniform yet; he'd receive one after reporting in.

Just as he was about to step into the academy—

"Excuse me, are you a new student at Hyakkaou?"

A pleasant and polite voice called out from behind him.

Haruto turned around.

The speaker was a stunning black-haired girl. Her long, jet-black hair reached below her short skirt.

Her crimson eyes matched the academy's uniform perfectly.

Her long legs were wrapped in black stockings, highlighting a figure that could only be described as flawless.

Now that he thought about it, Haruto had always wanted to point this out—

Were the skirts at Hyakkaou a little too short?

Most JK uniforms had skirts between 42 and 56 cm in length.

But here, they were probably around 37 cm.

Not that he was complaining about the view.

"I'm an exchange student. Today is my first day reporting in."

Haruto responded with a friendly smile.

For polite and friendly conversations, he had no interest in responding with hostility—he was a very easygoing person.

"I thought so! I guessed correctly!"

The girl beamed with excitement.

"My name is Jabami Yumeko. I'm also transferring in today."

Haruto was slightly surprised.

(T/N: One more thing;

Is Kakegurui good?)
