Chapter 256: Chapter 251: The Troubled Girl’s Festival Outing
A few days had passed since the succubus girl was taken in.
Today was a traditional festival in Japan, and every household was lively and bustling.
Inside the apartment…
"Shiro! You're way too obsessed with games!"
"Big brother, reality is just a crappy game… o(﹏)o nooo~!"
In Shiro's room, dozens of game discs were stacked up.
They were the witnesses of her endless battles through sleepless nights.
As a result, Shiro was punished.
Even though she no longer needed rest or relaxation, Haruto still dragged her away from her bed and games.
If she kept going down this path, she'd be ruined!
Gabriel, watching this unfold from the side, quietly prayed that Haruto wouldn't come for her too.
Unfortunately, fate had other plans.
"And you too! You fallen angel!"
Gabriel's pale ankles were seized by Haruto and dragged off alongside Shiro.
"Big brother! Please!"
"Begging won't work!"
"Ugh, QAQ!"
"I'm an angel! You disrespectful human! Death penalty, death penalty!"
"Say one more word and I'll cut your internet and ban seventy-six of your accounts!"
"I'm sorry! Please don't do that…"
The two were easily subdued and carried downstairs by Haruto.
Seeing them get dragged out, many of the girls couldn't help but smile in amusement.
The apartment expansion had been completed recently. Both wings were now connected, with plenty of rooms.
And the living room and other common areas had grown surprisingly spacious too.
Soon, Tohru brought out dinner.
"La la la la~~~ Boiled fish and shrimp dumplings~!"
Hu Tao rubbed her hands excitedly by the table.
Haruto's mouth twitched.
Hu Tao had come all the way from the station to crash dinner at the apartment.
As a fan of Hu Tao, Haruto knew all too well what this mischievous girl wanted to eat.
So he had specially bought the ingredients and asked Tohru to make boiled fish with shrimp dumplings.
Of course, there were plenty of other dishes as well to suit everyone's tastes.
After dinner, Nao casually mentioned,
"By the way, there's a festival going on in Chiba tonight. Wanna go check it out?"
Since today was a national holiday in Japan, the streets were lit up and lined with stalls. A perfect place to enjoy the festive mood.
Haruto raised his hand, signaling he was up for it.
Tohru immediately joined in on the fun.
The rest of the girls at home began joining the group one by one.
Even the usually antisocial Annie and Violet joined the outing.
Shiro and Gabriel tried to escape.
But Haruto saw through their plan and forced them into the group.
"Nooo! Today's the last day of the closed beta! How could this happen!"
Gabriel reached out longingly toward her room upstairs.
Her unfinished legacy still awaited her!
Eldergrante still awaited her climb!
"It's the last day anyway. All the accounts are getting wiped after the beta ends. Missing one day won't kill you."
"And besides, Gabriel, I heard from Heaven's principal… Your big sister is planning to come check on you."
Gabriel immediately gave in.
She dropped into a deep kneel before Haruto.
"Please stall my sister! Don't let her descend to the human world! For that, I'll obey your every command. The angel Gabriel is at your service."
Haruto sneered.
Gabriel had way too many weaknesses, and they worked every time.
Gabriel's sister was the famed archangel Zelel.
She was known as the Right Hand of God—harsh, strict, and unforgiving.
Especially toward fallen behavior.
And even more toward her own sister Gabriel.
If Zelel ever saw Gabriel in her current hopeless NEET state…
Yikes.
It would be a disaster beyond imagination.
And so, the group "happily" set out for the Chiba festival.
Though night had fallen, the streets were still brightly lit.
Vendors shouted their deals, couples and friends chatted and laughed as they passed.
It was a scene full of life and warmth.
Naturally, Haruto and his entourage attracted a lot of attention. After all, a group with one guy and so many girls was rare—and very eye-catching.
Passersby glared daggers at Haruto after noticing all the beautiful girls around him.
But after getting a good look at Haruto's face, they didn't even know who to envy anymore.
Watching the girls laugh and chat as they wandered through the crowd…
Haruto felt a little dazed.
Most of the girls here weren't the type to enjoy festivals in the first place.
Like Annie and Violet—both shaped by war, once completely cut off from normal society.
But now, Annie was smiling brightly, eating a slice of pie.
Violet still looked a bit dazed, but her eyes now held a touch of joy, no longer expressionless like a doll.
Then there were Tohru, Ram, Rem, and Beatrice.
They weren't human, and once even held resentment toward humans.
Yet now they curiously examined the festival stalls.
Occasionally, they'd tug on Haruto's arm to buy some snacks. Watching it all unfold, Haruto felt genuinely moved.
Isn't this what being alive is about?
If all you do is carry burdens of hate, running around for justice or race—what kind of life is that?
Just as Haruto was sighing to himself…
"Come check out the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor! Second customer gets half off! Full service, satisfaction guaranteed!"
Somehow, Hu Tao had snuck off to promote her business again.
She now had a stack of flyers in hand.
Veins bulging on his forehead, Haruto's mouth twitched.
"Someone go grab that girl for me!"
Hu Tao was swiftly apprehended by Tohru and dragged back.
Haruto frantically apologized to the surrounding crowd.
Promoting a funeral service during a festival—how terrifying!
But before he could catch his breath, disaster struck again.
Due to the crowd, Gabriel got separated. In the distance, only her golden ahoge could be seen bobbing in the sea of people.
But that wasn't the worst part.
What really set Haruto off was hearing Gabriel muttering from within the crowd,
"There are way too many humans… It's like ants! Just destroy the world already!"
Veins bulging, Haruto quickly parted the crowd and pulled her back.
And when he grabbed her, he saw in her hands—a golden, ancient-looking horn.
"One second later and I would've blown the horn to signal the world's end."
Gabriel said with a sigh.
Haruto snatched the horn from her and bonked her on the head.
Seriously!?
Why does a fallen angel even have something like this!?
The Horn of World Annihilation.
Blow it once, and hail mixed with fire rains down, burning a third of the forests, plunging the land into chaos.
Blow it twice, and the mountains blaze, the fire crashes into the sea, turning a third of it to blood, killing life.
Blow it thrice…
In short, it could literally bring about the apocalypse.
Gritting his teeth, Haruto confiscated the horn and gave Gabriel a good scolding.
If she'd even thought about blowing that horn for real, he'd have locked her up then and there.
Warm and wholesome?
Wholesome, my butt!
Haruto suddenly realized he was surrounded by several problem children in this group.
From then on, during the rest of the festival, Haruto kept a hawk's eye on all the troublemakers.
By the end of the celebration…
Haruto felt even more exhausted than after a containment mission.
Finally, they reached the festival's end.
Fireworks burst into the sky above, lighting up the night like brilliant stars.
The girls all turned their eyes toward the display.
Haruto finally got a moment to rest.
He sat casually on the steps and let out a long sigh.
What a day.
Just then, he caught sight of Asuna in the distance, watching the fireworks with her head tilted up.
What a coincidence. Asuna had also come out to the festival to relax tonight.
Not long ago, she received her transfer notice.
The entire Yuuki family had celebrated—none of them expected Shuchiin Academy's acceptance letter to come so soon.
Asuna was happy too.
But not because she was going to a prestigious school.
It was because Haruto also attended Shuchiin. She'd finally be in the same school as him.
Asuna thought, Now that we're schoolmates, there'll be more chances to talk, right?
But when she actually transferred in… she was stunned.
She hadn't seen Haruto for days.
After asking around, she finally learned…
That upperclassman Haruto had joined the student council, was a certified genius, had completed all his studies, and basically never attended classes anymore.
Hearing that, Asuna was completely speechless.
All her dreams of running into him on campus had gone up in smoke.
She did, however, run into the student council president of Shuchiin—the eldest daughter of the Shinomiya family.
For some reason, Asuna felt like that girl looked at her strangely.
But her attitude was kind and friendly, very polite.
Asuna couldn't make sense of it.
But still, unable to bump into Haruto, she'd grown frustrated—and that's why she came to the festival tonight.
