Mash-Up Anime World: Adopted by the Sawamura Family

Chapter 9: 9. A Clean Break, Each Finding Their Own Happiness

Sawamura Sayuri turned around upon hearing her daughter's taunt.

Still nestled in Akira's embrace, she took both of his hands and wrapped them around her slender waist.

With a smug expression, she stuck out her tongue at Eriri and shot back:

"Eriri, every time we go shopping, people mistake us for twin sisters."

"Are you mocking yourself?"

"If you want to hug Akira, Mama will step aside right now."

"I never thought you'd even be jealous of your own mother."

"Boohoo~ Mama is so heartbroken!"

"Who's jealous?! I'm not!"

The ever-tsundere Eriri instantly turned red and refuted furiously.

A textbook case of stubborn denial.

"Mom, stop talking nonsense."

"Why would I ever want to hug that scumbag, Akira?!"

Their father, Spencer, was already beyond words at this point.

Eriri, when are you going to learn to be honest with yourself?

The longing in your eyes is plain as day.

The only reason we're not calling you out on it is that we're too kind.

If you don't fix that tsundere attitude soon…

Are you planning to become a loser heroine?

As a fellow otaku, Spencer groaned internally, torn between amusement and frustration.

Fortunately, Akira and Eriri had grown up together as siblings and childhood friends.

That alone gave Eriri a natural advantage.

Spencer unknowingly set up a mental flag for himself.

Eriri, if you lose in the end, how will you ever face your status as an otaku girl?

My precious daughter, you have to win!

Wiping the corner of his eye dramatically, Spencer silently cheered her on in his heart.

Once Sayuri finished her playful act, she and Akira returned to their seats.

With their calculated distractions, Eriri's mood had improved significantly.

At the very least, a smile had returned to her face.

As time passed, the dishes on the table began to grow cold.

The warm glow of the candles was nearing its final flickers.

"Dad, you have to leave soon, right?"

"This was our final family dinner together."

"Your flight is tonight, isn't it?"

"Akira, as expected, nothing gets past you."

"Your uncle's family hasn't been laid to rest yet."

"If not for waiting for you to return, I would have already gone back to London."

"Everything is packed and ready."

Spencer gestured toward the entrance, looking somewhat resigned.

"Waaah! How did it come to this?!"

Eriri, whose eyes were already swollen from crying, once again burst into uncontrollable sobs.

"Mom, aren't we going with him?"

"Did the Sawamura and Spencer families fall out?"

"Akira, compared to you, I feel like Eriri has the IQ of a brick."

"The Sawamura family has never been on the same level as the centuries-old Spencer family."

"You should know your grandmother's maiden name—she values her reputation above all else."

"Which makes sense, considering she's from the Kujou family."

"For the Spencer Earl to publicly humiliate the Sawamura family like this… it turned us into a laughingstock."

"She was so furious that she collapsed from the stress."

"She even swore to cut all ties with the Spencer family."

"On top of that, she strictly forbade us from attending the funeral."

Sayuri and Spencer exchanged a glance, both smiling bitterly.

"Is Grandma's condition serious?"

Akira immediately tensed up and asked.

"Not at all. The old lady is just sulking."

"She's just having a hard time swallowing this humiliation."

"For the past few days, we've had to coax her into eating."

"That's good to hear."

Akira let out a sigh of relief before cautiously inquiring:

"But on the day of the burial, the guest list will be filled with dignitaries."

"Not attending at all would seem inappropriate, wouldn't it?"

"After all, he was Eriri's biological uncle."

Sayuri gave her son a thumbs-up and praised him:

"Akira, you're very considerate."

"That's exactly what I was thinking."

"On the day of the burial, I plan to bring you and Eriri to pay respects briefly."

"A complete fallout between the Sawamura and Spencer families is inevitable."

"A simple divorce would've been one thing."

"But Alan returning home to remarry is just too much."

"If we don't sever ties, the Sawamura family will have no face left among Japan's upper class."

"I see. Dad's future wife makes it inconvenient for him to keep in touch with us."

"And for the sake of family honor, we can't maintain contact with Dad either."

"No wonder Dad said that once he leaves, it will be hard for us to meet again."

"That's right."

"If we aren't careful, your grandmother could get even angrier."

"And if that happens, I, your dear mother, will have no face left in this family."

After finishing her explanation, Sayuri—dressed in an elegant purple embroidered kimono—raised her glass alongside Spencer, who was wearing a formal Western suit.

Their smiles were sincere.

Together, they exchanged their final words of farewell.

"Mr. Spencer, from now on, let's part ways peacefully and wish each other happiness."

"Ms. Sayuri, I hope you find love again."

"I have Akira and Eriri—that's all I need."

"Akira is far more handsome than you."

"My standards have been permanently raised because of him."

"There's no way I could ever be interested in another greasy old man."

Without a second thought, Sayuri wrapped her arms around Akira's neck and smugly flaunted her statement.

"You're right."

"Akira's looks and charm are truly irresistible to both men and women alike."

Spencer smiled at the sight, eyes glinting with amusement.

"That's why I never wanted you to take Akira to England."

"Everyone knows how many perverts and degenerates lurk around there."

"What if Akira fell victim to one of them?!"

Spencer: ...
