Mash-Up Anime World: Adopted by the Sawamura Family

Chapter 7: 7. Entrusting Responsibility

"After careful consideration, my father completely gave up on choosing Eriri as his heir."

"Hmph! As if I even wanted it in the first place!" Eriri huffed, angrily wiping her tear-streaked face.

Spencer let out a deep sigh before confessing, "After much deliberation, I decided to go back and father a new heir."

"I… I can't refuse my father. He and my mother just lost a son and grandson."

With his hands clutching his head, Spencer's voice was heavy with pain.

"Dad, I understand. I can completely empathize with your situation," Akira said with a rare solemnity.

"From now on, your life no longer belongs to you alone."

"You belong to the Spencer family."

"In this entire situation, the one suffering the most… is you."

"I can see it, Dad—you don't want to go back and inherit this title."

Spencer smiled bitterly.

"Akira, you've always been so perceptive."

"If only you were my biological son."

A heavy silence fell over the room.

"If that were the case, none of this would be happening. I could've just passed the family responsibility onto you."

Akira shook his head with a small smile.

"I'm already lucky enough to have been adopted by you and Mom."

Spencer sighed. "I even considered giving you the Spencer surname so you could inherit the title."

"But the rest of the family vehemently opposed it."

"In the end, I had no choice but to give up."

Akira waved a hand dismissively. "Forget it."

"I have no interest in spending my entire life in London."

"That kind of life would be far too boring for me."

His answer was firm—unyielding.

This was his decision.

"Even if that title were handed to me for free, I wouldn't want it."

"Heh. I knew you'd say that."

"Dad, good luck. Your real challenge is only just beginning."

Akira hesitated for a moment before adding:

"If your new wife ends up being jealous… we might not even get to see each other again, let alone stay in contact."

Spencer let out a bitter chuckle.

"Do you think I have a say in this?"

"Noble marriages are all about family status and benefits."

"Once I return to Britain… I doubt I'll ever get the chance to come back."

Spencer looked directly at Akira.

"Akira, as the only man left in this household, it's time for you to step up."

"From now on, you are the pillar of this family."

"I'm leaving Sayuri and Eriri's futures in your hands."

"Especially Eriri… I've been a terrible father to her."

"I know this is a heavy request, and I have no right to ask this of you."

"But please… take care of Sayuri and Eriri for the rest of their lives."

"Akira, you understand what I mean."

Then, Spencer bowed deeply to his son.

It was an unspoken request—his final request as a father.

He knew this could be considered emotional blackmail.

But he had no other choice.

Back when they adopted Akira, both he and Sayuri had always hoped that one day, Eriri would marry him.

He trusted that Akira understood what he meant.

Because deep down, Spencer feared that Akira—after learning about his true origins—would leave this family forever.

"Dad, don't do this."

Akira quickly moved forward and stopped Spencer from bowing any further.

Then, with a firm and unwavering voice, he declared:

"Dad, I have only one surname, and that's Sawamura."

"I promise you—I will take care of Mom and Eriri for the rest of my life."

Nearby, Sayuri and Eriri were already crying uncontrollably, clinging to each other in a silent embrace.

There were no words.

Only tears.

"That's… enough. There's one more thing I need to tell you."

Spencer took a deep breath.

"Akira… I need to apologize."

"I've actually known about your real origins for a long time."

Akira's expression shifted.

"You remember how Sayuri and I found you in London, right?"

"I had the Spencer family investigate further. And… we really did find something."

"You are, without a doubt, Japanese."

Akira's eyes widened slightly.

"For years, I debated whether or not to tell you."

"Please forgive me."

"I was selfish."

"I was proud to have you as my son, and I didn't want to lose you."

Spencer's voice wavered, his gaze filled with guilt.

"Sayuri and Eriri knew nothing about this."

"I knew that one day, with your intelligence, you'd uncover your past on your own."

"But now that I'm leaving… I refuse to let this secret fester and create problems in the future."

"I don't want it to come between you and Sayuri one day."

Akira took a deep breath.

Then, without hesitation, he embraced his father.

With a voice thick with emotion, he whispered:

"Dad… how could I ever blame you or Mom for this?"

"No matter how prestigious my origins might be…"

"I will always be Akira Sawamura."

"I never once cared about where I came from."

"And I have no intention of searching for my birth family."

"My home is here."

"With Mom and Eriri."

Akira released Spencer, extending his left hand into the air.

The ancient sword he had brought back from China seemed to react.

Buzz— Buzz— Buzz!

A deep hum resonated through the room.

The next second, the sword suddenly lifted from the coffee table and flew straight into Akira's hand.

This scene, defying all conventional logic, left the three of them slack-jawed.

They all knew their son and brother was remarkable.

But this… this was beyond their expectations.

They had long been aware that mysterious and unexplainable phenomena existed in this world.

But they never imagined that a superhuman ability had been hiding in their own family all along.
