"They actually know each other?"

Seeing that Misaka Mikoto and the boy were acquainted, George was somewhat surprised. However, from their expressions, it seemed they weren't particularly close.

"What exactly is going on right now?"

Kamijou Touma turned to Shirai Kuroko, who wore the armband of Judgment, and asked.

Since Misaka Mikoto knew Kamijou Touma, Shirai Kuroko didn't conceal the situation:

"There are terrorists operating in the underground mall. The Anti-Skill officers have already gone to stop them, but there's a high chance it will escalate into a large-scale battle. That's why I'm evacuating the trapped civilians first—after all, I have the ability to teleport."

"Then take them out of here first. I'll go assist the Anti-Skill officers."

Kamijou Touma gestured toward the two girls behind him.

Misaka Mikoto nodded.

"You can only take two people at a time. Get them to safety first, then go back for the others. I'll go with Kamijou Touma to support the Anti-Skill officers."

She had fought Kamijou Touma before and knew that, despite being a Level 0 esper, his right hand had a unique ability that could nullify any supernatural power.

No matter how strong the enemy was, he could bring them down to an ordinary person's level and engage in hand-to-hand combat.

That was how she had lost to him in their duel.

"No way—"

Index was about to protest when Shirai Kuroko grabbed the two girls and teleported away in an instant.

George, however, did not follow. Now that he knew Index's name, finding her later would be easy.

At the moment, he was more interested in seeing what level of power the magician attacking Academy City possessed. This would give him a better idea of the overall strength of magicians in this world.

Invisible to the naked eye, he followed Kamijou Touma and Misaka Mikoto toward the direction of the gunfire. Before long, they arrived at the battlefield where Anti-Skill had engaged the magician.

But the battle was already over—Anti-Skill officers lay scattered across the ground, completely defeated, while the magician remained unscathed.

The magician was a woman in her mid-twenties, dressed in a gothic-style black dress. Her golden hair was wild and unruly, resembling a lion's mane, and her skin was a rich chocolate brown.

She held an oil-wax pen in one hand, standing before a five-meter-tall stone golem conjured through magic.

"So, you're the Imagine Breaker. But the Key of the Imaginary District isn't with you, is it?"

Upon seeing Kamijou Touma, the female magician smirked.

"Well, no matter. Killing you will have the same effect!"

"Who are you, and why are you attacking this place?"

Misaka Mikoto stepped out from behind Kamijou Touma, flipping a coin between her fingers as she demanded:

"Speak honestly. I won't let you escape so easily this time."

"What a hassle... It's you again, Level 5 esper. I don't have time to waste on you. It seems eliminating the Key of the Imaginary District would be simpler… or perhaps killing Index would suffice."

Upon spotting Misaka Mikoto, the magician's expression shifted slightly. Without hesitation, she began drawing a magic circle on the ground.

"My name is Sherry Cromwell. I'm from the Anglican Church's Puritan faction. I came here to start a war!"

The magic circle on the ground emitted a dazzling light before erupting into an explosion, creating a massive crater several meters deep that connected directly to the subway tunnels below.

"If she ran away, that must mean she's weaker than Misaka Mikoto."

George's figure flickered as he leaped into the crater, quickly chasing after the magician named Sherry.

Meanwhile, Misaka Mikoto and Kamijou Touma were momentarily blocked by the stone golem. By the time they cleared their line of sight, Sherry had already disappeared.

"Levitation Spell!"

As she fled through the subway tunnels, Sherry drew another identical magic circle above her, blasting open a passage to the surface. She then used levitation magic to float up and escape.

"You won't get away."

She swiftly inscribed multiple magic circles in the area, causing the floating eyeballs from earlier to reappear and disperse in all directions.

In less than a minute, she had pinpointed her target's location and dashed toward it.

"So, in this world, does magic require pre-drawn circles to take effect? Or is this just her personal casting method?"

Puzzled, George continued his pursuit.

Five minutes later, on a roadside in one of the city streets, George followed Sherry and found Index along with another girl named Kazakiri Hyouka.

"The Index Librorum Prohibitorum and the Key of the Imaginary District—one representing magic, the other science. Killing you both would be perfect."

Sherry stood before Index and Kazakiri Hyouka, drawing a magic circle on the ground while chanting:

"O semblance of divinity, elixir of the gods, might of the divine, fire of the heavens! The four celestial symbols of the four realms shall align, guiding the rightful power in the rightful direction!"

As she completed her incantation, the five-meter-tall stone golem appeared once more.

"Come forth, Ellis! Kill them all!"

The stone golem raised its massive fist and swung it down toward Index and Kazakiri Hyouka.

George, who was concealed nearby, didn't rush to intervene. Instead, he continued observing.

He had a feeling that these two girls weren't ordinary.

One possessed knowledge of every magic book in the world, while the other didn't seem human at all—more like an aggregation of pure energy.

"Forced Chant: Twist to the Right!"

Just as the stone golem's fist was about to strike, Index swiftly chanted a spell.

As soon as her incantation took effect, the golem's fist abruptly veered off course, slamming into the wall on the right instead.

Sherry, however, showed no surprise at this turn of events.

"As expected of the Index Librorum Prohibitorum. You saw through my spell in an instant and even disrupted my control over Ellis."

As a fellow member of the Anglican Church's Puritan faction, Sherry was well aware of Index's abilities. She knew that within Index's mind were 103,000 grimoires, including knowledge of the Kabbalistic techniques she specialized in.

Just now, Index had used Forced Chant to interfere with Sherry's control over the stone golem, causing it to receive incorrect commands and execute a flawed attack.

"But if I stop controlling it, then you won't be able to interfere, will you?"

A golem created using Kabbalistic techniques could be directly controlled by its summoner, but it could also function autonomously. It wasn't entirely mindless.

And with the golem acting on its own, Index's Forced Chant would be ineffective.

Sure enough, when the stone golem attacked again, Index's interference failed to have any effect.

At that moment, Kazakiri Hyouka rushed forward and shielded Index with her body.

The golem's powerful strike landed squarely on Kazakiri Hyouka, but instead of being sent flying, her entire form shattered—half of her body breaking apart like glass. There was no blood, only a faint glow of energy radiating from within.

"What… what is this?"

Even Kazakiri Hyouka was shocked by what had happened to her own body.

Sherry, however, remained unfazed. Instead, a mocking smirk appeared on her face.

"Did you really forget that you're nothing more than a manufactured monster? Did you actually think you were human?"

"I… I'm a monster?"

A flood of memories surged through Kazakiri Hyouka's mind.

She suddenly recalled the truth—she wasn't human.

She was merely a being formed from the naturally emitted AIM dispersion fields of Academy City's 2.3 million espers.

She had never been a real person.
