"What are your plans after this? Returning to Asgard?"

George continued his questioning.

He wasn't surprised that Thor had taken up Mjölnir—it was only a matter of time.

"George, thank you all for your help, but I'm afraid I'll need to trouble you a bit longer.

During this time, through your books and television, I've come to realize that the problems facing humanity are far more severe than those in Asgard. Compared to my home, Midgard seems to need me more."

Thor closed the book in his hands.

"So, I've decided to stay here in Midgard for the long term to help humanity. Besides, with the Bifrost, I can always return to Asgard if necessary."

"Not staying because of Jane, huh? I heard from Logan that you two have been going on dates pretty often lately," George said with a knowing look that any man would understand.

Thor cleared his throat immediately.

"Ahem... Well, that's certainly part of it, but it's definitely not the main reason.

As the ruler of the Nine Realms, Asgard has a responsibility to protect them all. As the God of Thunder and the future king of Asgard, it's only natural for me to bear the responsibility of protecting humanity."

"Alright then, whatever your reasons, we're glad to have you stay," George said, patting Thor's shoulder before heading toward the school's basement.

He had some upgrades to take care of, like using the Undetectable Extension Charm to expand the combat simulation room. This would ensure there was enough space for the kids and himself to practice their superpowers and magic.

These were only preliminary upgrades. Once his alchemy skills improved, the entire school would undergo a full transformation.

Not only would it have the magical characteristics of Hogwarts Castle, but it would also become a mobile fortress like the one in Fairy Tail. Additionally, he planned to install powerful offensive magic arrays.

Eventually, if feasible, he even envisioned raising the entire school off the ground and creating a floating city—safer and more impressive.

However, before he could reach the basement, his phone suddenly rang from his pocket.

"It's Black Widow."

Seeing the caller ID, he answered with a teasing tone:

"Natasha, what's this? Thinking about leaving S.H.I.E.L.D. to join our school?"

"George, Director Fury is dead. S.H.I.E.L.D. is finished. We need your help!"

On the other end of the line, Natasha's voice sounded weary.

George froze for a moment.

"Nick Fury is dead? Are you sure?"

Nick Fury, that guy… While his skills weren't extraordinary, his ability to stay alive was top-notch.

Not only did he have Skrulls acting as his decoys, but he also had Captain Marvel, an immensely powerful ally, backing him up.

To be honest, even George himself wasn't confident he could take on Captain Marvel.

After all, she was someone who could travel through space without any equipment, obliterate the most advanced Kree and Thanos warships with just her body, and hold her own in cosmic battles.

So, the moment George heard about Nick Fury's death, his first thought was that it must be a fake death.

However, Natasha's next words made him doubt that theory.

"We were ambushed by a large number of Hydra's Winter Soldiers. Director Fury was shot through the chest by one of them and died on the spot.

The Winter Soldiers are Hydra's emotionless killing machines, created using a serum to obey orders without question. We thought there was only one, but it turns out there's an entire army of them."

In the movie universe, there was only one Winter Soldier—Steve Rogers' friend, Bucky Barnes.

After falling from the train, Bucky was found by Hydra, injected with serum, modified, and brainwashed. He became one of Hydra's most deadly assassins, even responsible for killing Iron Man's parents.

This event was one of the key triggers for the later Avengers Civil War.

"Could it be that the batch of Winter Soldiers from the Hydra base in Civil War was activated ahead of schedule?"

George suddenly recalled that besides Bucky, Hydra had also created over thirty Winter Soldiers using their elite killing squad. However, these soldiers were ultimately killed while in cryogenic stasis by Helmut Zemo.

According to Bucky in the movie, these Winter Soldiers were each proficient in over thirty languages, experts in infiltration, assassination, disguise, and regime subversion. They were silent, lethal, and capable of disappearing without a trace.

If these soldiers worked together, they could potentially topple a small country.

But this wasn't the cinematic universe—it was an unknown Marvel universe. Furthermore, because of George's interference, S.H.I.E.L.D. became aware of Hydra's existence much earlier, leading to a direct confrontation between the two.

If Hydra had activated those frozen Winter Soldiers earlier, it would make sense.

Nick Fury being caught off guard and dying in such an ambush wasn't entirely impossible either.

After all, in some universes, not only Nick Fury but also Iron Man and Captain America had died numerous times.

And since Captain America was now teaching at George's academy, it was understandable that without his help, S.H.I.E.L.D. would struggle to hold its own against Hydra.

"After Nick Fury's death, did his body exhibit anything unusual, like turning green all over?"

A burst of garbled static interrupted George's train of thought, but Natasha's voice quickly cut through it.

"What do you mean by 'turning green'? George, I'm not joking.

S.H.I.E.L.D. has been completely decimated. Hydra's next move could threaten the entire world.

They're preparing to launch the Helicarriers they seized from S.H.I.E.L.D. to execute their Insight Protocol."

On the other end of the line, Natasha's tone sounded frantic. Fury's death had clearly thrown her into disarray.

The government was completely unreliable; who knew how many Hydra spies were still embedded within it? The only ones capable of stopping Hydra now were George and his allies.

George had provided the initial intel on Hydra. Captain America was at his academy, and the school was filled with mutants, all possessing unique and powerful abilities.

"Alright, where are you? I'll come to you."

If the Nick Fury who died was a Skrull impersonator, then his body would have reverted to Skrull form after death. Since this didn't happen, there was a real possibility that it was the actual Nick Fury who had been killed.

With Fury dead and S.H.I.E.L.D. in ruins, Hydra's power was unchecked. If George didn't step in, Hydra's strength could very likely allow them to overthrow the planet's governments and take over the world.

Neither Odin nor the Ancient One would interfere in human civil wars.

George also recalled that in some Marvel universes, Hydra did manage to conquer the world.

That was an outcome George could never accept. Hydra operated with absolute authoritarianism, and their Insight Protocol made that abundantly clear.

What was the Insight Protocol?

It used Dr. Zola's algorithm to calculate every individual who could potentially become a threat to Hydra in the future. Then, three Helicarriers would take to the skies, using precision strikes to eliminate those individuals before they could grow strong.

Under Hydra's rule, everyone would have to obey unconditionally, or they would be "processed."

Naturally, George's academy and its mutants would also have to submit to Hydra's regime to avoid being targeted.

But George would never bow to Hydra.

The only solution was to stop Hydra's plan and teach them a lesson: some people could be trifled with, while others were untouchable.
