Chapter 6: Hero? Villain? or just...
"Mhm... It's delicious... damn," May said, chewing on the food, almost moaning in delight.
"I didn't know you could cook so well, Peter," she remarked, her surprise evident as she leaned closer.
"Tell me, when did you learn to cook?" May asked her face inches from mine.
"Honestly, it's not too tough to learn cooking with the internet and YouTube around," I replied with a smirk, noticing May's surprised expression. With Peter's crazy intelligence and knack for learning, it was a piece of cake.
"Keep it up, young man; I'm sure you'll make a good husband..." May joked as she finished her plate.
"Well, I don't know about that... but I already have you, May," I teased, causing her to choke on her food. I quickly handed her a glass filled with cold water.
"Cough, PETER!!... I mean a wife..." she corrected herself once she calmed down.
I couldn't help but laugh at her reaction. "Alright, alright... Time for me to tackle the dishes," I said, grabbing all the plates and heading to the kitchen. "It's pretty fun to tease a grown-up," I added with a chuckle as I started washing up.
After finishing the dishes, I walked into the living room and found May completely absorbed in a K-drama. She must have just showered, as her hair was slightly damp, and she was lounging in a loose t-shirt and comfy pants.
As I glanced at her, the t-shirt clung to her in a way that left little to the imagination, accentuating her curves. I felt heat rising in my cheeks. "Ahem," I cleared my throat and quickly averted my gaze, sinking onto the couch beside her, with a playful tone, I asked, "Aren't you tired?"
I leaned back and rested my head on her lap, stealing a glance up at her as the flickering images from the TV cast a warm glow around us.
"Uff... I'm tired, but I can't miss the show!" May replied, her eyes glued to the screen while her hand ruffled my hair. I shook off my distracting thoughts and focused on the activities planned for tonight, considering what precautions I should take.
I didn't want to get caught on Shield's radar this early when I was still just a nobody with a slightly stronger body.
Soon, I found myself staring in the mirror at my outfit. "I need to buy a good costume," I muttered to myself. I was wearing a black trench coat with black pants, a skeleton mask to cover my face, and a round hat.
"Ugh... this looks... weird. I look like a burglar or some secret investigator," I said, taking a deep breath to calm my nerves. This was going to be my first debut in an unusual costume on the streets of New York.
I looked outside the window; it was already late at night, and the house lights were off. I guessed it was about time for all the dark, shady deals to start.
I climbed onto my rooftop and, with a jump, used my strength to launch myself high into the sky, landing on another building. I practised this a few times until I got the hang of jumping, my trench coat fluttering behind me as I used my electrostatic ability to keep my hat in place.
As I leapt from the rooftop of one building to another, I unexpectedly ended up in the very spot where the original Peter met his demise, the same location where he attempted to rescue a girl but failed due to his lack of strength and nearly lost his life.
Upon entering the familiar alley, I spotted the same man who nearly took Peter's life; he shouted in a harsh and uncivil tone.
"Bitch!! Hand over all of the jewellery and money, or I'll fucking shoot you!" said the thug, who appeared to be the head of the group of three thugs, while pointing his gun at the woman, who was shaking in dread while a man stood protectively before her.
"Please don't hurt us; we will give you everything," begged the same man who appeared wealthy while defending his fiancée as three thugs surrounded them with knives.
It is time to pay back. "Hey, ass face!!"I cried out.
The one nearest to the street looked away, "What-" and smashed his face into my boot faster than his eyes, fracturing his nose and propelling him backward.
"Get him!" the thug's leader shouted as the final one attempted to attack me. He thrust his blade forward, attempting to rip my stomach apart, but I quickly avoided them using my superhuman reflexes.
The sound of a gun being discharged suddenly reached my ears, and I managed to evade it since my danger sense alerted me to its presence.
It was quite close. I exhaled in relief and leapt on the thug who was attempting to tear my stomach with the sharp knife.
I used all of my might to pound him in the face, and I could feel his skeleton creaking and nose splitting as he collapsed to the ground, unconscious.
Then I turned to face the extremely frightened leader. "DON'T COME NEAR..OR.." he said, pointing to me with a horrified and reverent expression after witnessing how effortlessly I handled other thugs.
"Or what? , gonna shoot me now?." My heart was racing because it was my first time fighting, but it was thrilling, and I laughed as I felt the adrenaline pumping through my veins." you can try…"With a sly smile, I approached him while he staggered back till his back struck the wall.
"You….??" I dodged every bullet he fired from his Glock by using my improved senses, but one of the bullets grazed my shoulder as blood trickled from it
"shit!!!" As I quickly traversed the distance, I hissed in agony and punched him hard in the stomach, causing him to lose all of his breath.
"You motherfucker!!" I grabbed his neck and gripped him hard, lifting him off the ground,
"You're going to pay for the pain!!" I bashed his head with a fist till it creaked and bled, then hurled him to the ground.
As blood surrounded the three goons on the ground, I turned to face them.
Then I heard a man's terrified voice. The man frantically muttered,
"T-thank you," as he and his fiancée found the sight of a masked man making a gory scene to be too much.
"Leave!" They fled in fear as I waved my hand.
"Let's see how much money they have," I said, rummaging through their pockets and discovering only $400."You people are poor."
When the excitement from the struggle subsided, I groaned and crawled over the wall until I reached the building's rooftop. "Tch…" I touched my shoulder wound and let out a painful groan.
"Remind me to fuse with an insect that has high durability or bulletproof skin, possibly some regeneration."I made a note to myself to avoid getting into the same predicament again.
Soon, I arrived at my house and entered via the window that I had left open, storing my outfit and money in my inventory before walking into the bathroom to take a shower and clean the blood from my shoulder.
After getting out of the shower, I put on some clothes and sat down on my bed as I noticed the clock hanging on the corner of the wall. "Well, it's already 2 a.m... I gotta sleep, I have school in early morning," I muttered, as I was psychologically fatigued rather than physically exhausted.
"I realized tonight that I only know how to fight by punching and using brute force." I began to reflect on my fight, which made me feel bad about myself, but it's okay because I already have a plan to get more proficient in fighting. I also thought about the Chikara Dojo, which is owned by one of the top martial artists in New York City.
