Chapter 61: New World
Michael sat in his room, staring at the two portals in front of him. Aside from the now-familiar Supreme Magus world, he focused on the other two portals.
"Hmm, which one should I enter first? Right or left?" he wondered aloud. Closing his eyes, he decided randomly and then jumped into the portal on the right.
As he entered, he once again felt his soul leaving his body, and darkness enveloped him.
[ Host is traveling to another world. ]
[ Mode of traveling is selected at random. ]
[ Transmigration has been selected. ]
[ Congratulations, Host! You are traveling to The Vampire Diaries. ]
As the notifications disappeared, he opened his eyes—only to be startled by an oncoming car. He realized he was standing in the middle of the road.
"Damn, am I going to die the moment I transmigrate?" he thought in panic. But suddenly, the car passed right through him.
"Huh?" he muttered in confusion. Looking down at himself, he saw his body was translucent, more like a soul than a physical form.
"Damn, I'm a soul?" he wondered aloud, his voice lost amidst the bustling chaos around him. Unfortunately, no one was there to hear him.
"System, is there any problem?" he asked, and the system promptly replied.
[ Host has successfully traveled to three worlds. Host has gained the title: Traveler. ]
[ Perk: Host can now access any inventory from any body. ]
"Okay, this is good, but I don't even have a body right now," he muttered aloud as he sat by the side of the road, though it didn't really matter.
Still, the perk was incredibly advantageous. Previously, only his main body could use the inventory of his avatars in other worlds, but now he could access it from any body. This was a great improvement.
"Hmm, maybe the gacha can save me," he mumbled as he activated the random gacha.
[ Congratulations! You have won the template: Random Passerby. ]
"Huh? Is this for real?" he muttered in disbelief. Random Passerby was actually his in-game name in one of the games he played—Hogwarts Legacy.
He had maxed out his level in the game by completing every single quest and challenge available. Being a huge fan of Harry Potter, he was ecstatic when this open-world magical game was released. He played it for months, even after finishing the main story, discovering every hidden secret and fully maxing out all his talents and spells.
"Um, System, how much power will I get?" he asked curiously.
[ Host will start with 25% of the power. The remaining power will gradually unlock as the Host completes quests given by the System. ]
Michael nodded, already familiar with how his stingy System worked. He hadn't expected a significant power boost, but 25% was still a pleasant surprise.
"That's good. I was preparing myself for 5%, but 25%? That's great!" he thought, feeling a little more optimistic.
[ New Quest: ]
Objective: Locate a medium and a witch to help you escape the Spirit World and enter the Mortal World.
Reward: Mortal Cup and 5% template progression.
Penalty: The Host will remain trapped in the Spirit World, unable to interact or take meaningful action.
"Alright, I guess it's time to get to work," he muttered, steeling himself for the challenge ahead.
"First of all, where am I?" he wondered aloud as he looked around. Right now, he was standing in the middle of a road surrounded by forest. The scenery offered no clear indication of where he was. Deciding to explore, he chose a random direction and began walking.
After half an hour…
"Just how far am I?" he mumbled, frustrated. He had been walking for thirty minutes, yet he hadn't seen a single city, car, or even another person.
"Damn this place," he muttered in annoyance, continuing to walk while scanning his surroundings. Unfortunately, there wasn't much to see—just an endless stretch of road and dense forest on either side.
After a few more hours, he finally spotted something in the distance that brought a smile to his face.
"New Orleans, huh?" he nodded. "I wonder what time period this is," he mused, quickening his pace toward the city.
Upon arriving, New Orleans didn't seem particularly eventful, aside from a few notable locations he remembered. Walking through the streets, he eventually reached a bar, where he heard the familiar sound of someone singing on stage.
As he entered, he saw Marcellus performing a song.
"You want me like you're..."
"Ah, yeah..."
Michael smirked, leaning against the doorframe as he listened. The scene felt surreal—watching someone he recognized, yet no one else seemed to notice him.
"Vampires, huh," Michael mumbled as he looked at him. There were more around, though he couldn't quite remember their names—aside from Marcel.
"The Originals aren't here, so this must be the era when Marcel ruled as king," Michael muttered, piecing it together. "That means witchcraft is currently forbidden here," he added in annoyance, glancing around.
"But that's the beauty of it," he murmured, a smirk forming on his face as he wandered the streets, taking in the atmosphere. "With Marcel banning any kind of witchcraft and wantonly slaughtering witches caught practicing it, it means I might have a chance to find a desperate witch willing to help me, in return If I take care of Marcel."
He paused for a moment, thinking it through.
"But I still need a medium to help me communicate with a witch in the mortal world," he mumbled, scanning his surroundings. He hoped he might stumble upon someone who could actually see him in his current form.
Mediums are humans who can see spirits—essentially, those who can perceive the dead. However, most mediums don't live long lives. Being able to see spirits makes them vulnerable to attacks, as many spirits take out their anger and frustration on them.
"Hmm, there was only one medium I remember—Jeremy Gilbert—but he's miles away, and I'd have to walk all the way there since I can't use anything in this soul form," Michael mumbled, frustrated, as he continued toward his destination.
