Chapter 6: Just his luck
At the same time, in the area where the explosion occurred.
Francis, who had just recovered from the explosion in the lab immediately rushed over to the scene, followed by more than a dozen guards, all of whom were holding fire extinguishers, trying to extinguish the surrounding fire.
Looking at the messy scene, Francis walked with a gloomy face.
After walking a few steps, Francis saw an opening in the oxygen chamber in the corner and Wade, who was supposed to be lying unconscious in it, had disappeared.
BOOM
Suddenly, a figure rushed out of the thick smoke and rushed towards the guards standing at the edge of the line.
With a sharp broken piece of glass in his hand, he slashed the guard's throat closest to him.
The strong smell of blood quickly spread in the air. The guard covered his neck in desperation to stop the blood and asked the others for help but only blood came out of his mouth.
It didn't take them long to figure out that the person who just appeared was Wade.
At the moment, Wade was naked and his whole body was in view of others. But instead of his previous handsome looks, now it was covered with ugly scars and none of the skin were intact. His body looked like it was freshly fished out of acid.
"Francis!!" Wade stared fixedly at Francis, Together with his disfigured face and hoarse voice filled with endless anger made everyone shiver.
It was right as Val had previously hoped. After Francis took Wade, he began to abuse Wade more cruelly than ever.
Perhaps in retaliation for Wade's nonstop insults, Francis locked Wade in a device that could regulate oxygen, leaving him in a state of hypoxia for a long time and tortured Wade repeatedly.
As a result, Francis' crazy behavior caused the heightened secretion of adrenal hormones in Wade's body, accelerating the stimulation of the serum in his body, giving him the healing ability via the activation of his X-gene and getting rid of the threat of cancer.
But the cost of this power was not without its consequences. It left Wade with a disfigured face and horrific scars all over his body forever.
Seeing his face, even Wade himself couldn't accept it.
After Francis had left the lab previously, Wade detonated the instrument with a stolen match and caused the previous explosion with the inflammable substances on the side; he only survived because of his fast healing power.
Even after the explosion, instead of escaping the lab, Wade chose to stay here and lie in wait for Francis to come again.
. . . . . . . . .
"Oh, So it was your doing." Seeing Wade's appearance, Francis finally understood how the explosion came about.
He immediately issued an order to the guards: "Are you waiting for an invitation, Shoot him!"
Wade, however, didn't just stand there to get shot. At the same time as Francis opened his mouth, Wade had already taken the rifle from the dead bodyguard's corpse and without any fanfare started shooting.
Even though he was experimented all this time, his healing made sure to keep his body in tune with his movements and as if proving it Wade showed his skills worthy of his fame as a top mercenary.
BANG BANG BANG
With three shots, three guards were taken out in an instant with headshots.
The other guards were taken aback by Wade's quick response. Only after Wade shot again and killed two more guards, they finally came to their senses and set up their rifles and shot in Wade's direction blindly.
Flame spurted out from the muzzle as several magazines were fired. The howling rain of bullets hit continued.
Wade tumbled dexterously, hid behind a wall and continued to shoot at the guards with the rifle he took.
The smoky surroundings did not affect Wade's aim in the slightest. As an reputed mercenary, such an environment is more of an advantage than hinderance to his style of combat.
The fierce gun battle went on.
As for Francis, he didn't participate in the shootout but hid in the wreckage of a large table around the corner.
Francis didn't interrupt the situation and sat there silently as if he was just waiting for the situation to settle.
At this moment, there were faint sound of footsteps treading as the sound of gunshots continued.
Immediately afterwards, Francis saw a guard coming out of smoke and instead of participating in the fight, directly sat next to him in the cover behind the table.
As if he sensed Francis' gaze, the guard turned his head and looked at Francis directly.
Two pair of eyes met in the chaos of bullets and the atmosphere instantly became awkward.
Val, who had just found a cover for himself, still dressed as a guard, felt that he was unlucky. Not only could he not find the exit of the base but accidentally broke into the epicenter of everything.
Directly after entering, he saw Wade slaughtering the group of guards with the rifle in his hands.
Val, being a man of survival instincts, immediately considered backing out—only for the roof behind him to dramatically collapse, sealing his escape like a scene straight out of a bad action movie. With no choice but to move forward, he scrambled for cover, only to find himself face-to-face with Francis.
Francis looked at the dusty Val, thinking that he was one of the surviving guards.
Francis frowned slightly: "Why are you hiding here instead of fighting? Go shoot that bastard!"
Realizing Francis didn't recognize him, Val decided to roll with it. In his most serious, noble tone, he declared, "It's too dangerous right now. I have to protect you."
Francis blinked. "I don't need protection."
Without missing a beat, Val nodded sagely. "That's great. Then you can protect me."
"???"
Francis' brain short-circuited for a moment before his suspicion finally caught up. "Wait a minute—who are you?"
Val smirked and repeated what he said the last time Francis interrogate him.. "Who am I? I'm the guy you keep questioning because clearly, your life is so dull that interrogating me is the highlight of your day."
"It's YOU!!" Francis shouted. Hearing the familiar sentence pattern, his pupils shrank suddenly.
