Marvel: The Sorcerer in America

Chapter 26: Chapter 26: A Funny Origin

Seeing that brutal situation, Nolan and the two other officers immediately took action. They restrained the woman and brought her to the police station for interrogation. However, an unexpected incident occurred when Nolan tried to handcuff the woman. She struggled and screamed incessantly, causing Nolan to accidentally pull the strap of her dress until it broke.

The woman, who had initially been venting her anger, suddenly turned wild and threatened Nolan. "I will make you pay!" the woman screamed with vengeful eyes.

At first, the threat was considered nothing more than the ramblings of a cornered perpetrator. However, night fell, and the threat became a reality. Nolan was attacked by an armed man. The attack made the police realize that this issue was bigger than their initial assumptions.

After conducting a thorough investigation, the police finally discovered the identity of the woman. She was not just a troublemaker. The woman was the girlfriend of the leader of the young gang "Southern Front"—an organization known for its violent actions and brutal crimes in the United States.

This gang is involved in all kinds of illegal activities, ranging from extortion, drug trafficking, to human trafficking. They even have access to military-grade weapons, making them even more dangerous.

When the man who is the leader of the gang learned that his girlfriend had been "humiliated," he immediately issued a command known as the "green light." It was a signal to all members of the organization: Nolan must die. Now, every member of the South Front throughout the city had one goal—to eliminate Nolan.

The district attorney approved the *Threat Notification* submitted by the 66th Police Precinct. This step bypassed the usual procedures through 911, directly issuing a *red alert* to all officers in the Brooklyn area. Additionally, 24-hour protection was implemented for Nolan to ensure his safety.

However, Nolan, with his stubborn attitude and heroic spirit, refused to succumb to fear. For Nolan, a true police officer should not be intimidated by the threats of criminals. Firmly, Nolan insisted on continuing his duties as usual. Captain Zoe, a young and energetic leader, agreed with this view. Zoe even decided to personally accompany Nolan on patrol, while also helping to train Nolan to face the worst-case scenarios.

Other officers took turns on shifts to support this initiative. Zoe, as the branch head, went directly into the field, walking alongside Nolan on every patrol.

However, no one expected the South Front to act so ruthlessly—openly attacking police officers in broad daylight. They acted like terrorists, launching a large-scale attack in the middle of the highway. This incident shocked everyone involved.

Lance, who was standing nearby, let out a long sigh, his expression showing concern. "You really are unlucky."

In the United States, there are too many people living with wild and uncontrolled freedom. The existing legal system often feels powerless against underground organizations like the South Front. In major cities like New York and Los Angeles, such groups have become part of everyday life, like ghosts that can never truly be exorcised.

"Mr. Lance, thank you very much for your help." Zoe sighed softly, but concern was still clearly visible on her face. In a serious tone, Zoe continued, "But I must remind you. The South Front is truly insane. I'm worried they will take out their anger on you. Given their actions today, the police will be examining every trace they leave at the scene. All evidence will be wiped clean, and there may be a temporary calm. But once the police are done, I'm afraid they will come looking for you."

Lance paused for a moment, his thoughts returning to the mysterious man who had just taken his picture. A sense of caution arose in Lance's mind. He then turned around to check, but the man had vanished without a trace.

Lance stopped for a moment, then smiled faintly and said casually, "I'm sure, if I run into trouble, you will definitely help me, right?"

If a regular gang organization bothered Lance, he wouldn't care too much. If he didn't have time to deal with them, he would simply wipe them out later—mercilessly, even if they had connections to the Kingpin or Hand.

Zoe quickly interjected, "Of course. Not to mention the police from other precincts, our colleagues at the 66th Police Precinct will ensure that you and your store are our top priority for protection."

"That's good," Lance replied casually, shrugging as if it were just a minor issue.

Sirens wailed down the street as backup police finally arrived. The atmosphere around began to stabilize, although tension still lingered.

Lance glanced at Vivi in the distance. Ethan, who seemed to have regained consciousness, stood next to Vivi. In a calm tone, Lance said to Zoe, "Captain, I still have personal matters to attend to."

Zoe looked hesitant for a moment before finally nodding. "Alright, I'll handle everything here. But I need you to provide a statement later. Sorry, it's procedure... Oh, and..." Zoe pointed to the dagger in Lance's hand. "That weapon we need to use as evidence in court."

Lance nodded briefly. "Understood. Goodbye."

He handed over the dagger casually, waved to Zoe and the other officers, then left calmly.

Outside the crime scene, Vivi greeted Lance with a bright smile like a freshly bloomed flower. Vivi wrapped her arms tightly around Lance's waist and sweetly said, "My dear, after a long break, it seems your courage has become even more extraordinary." Vivi chuckled softly, then added teasingly, "This commission is indeed well-suited for you. I knew you would handle it perfectly."

Ethan, who had witnessed the entire previous process, appeared more composed. The disgust on Ethan's face was now replaced with an expression of respect. Sincerely, Ethan said, "Your skills are remarkable..." But after a brief pause, Ethan continued, "But just being skilled isn't enough. The people selling nuclear bombs are truly insane. They won't hesitate to do things we can't even imagine, and they have more people like that than we think."
