Chapter 28: Chapter Seventeen
Derek sat cross-legged on the floor of the safe house, eyes locked onto the flickering TV screen as the news anchor relayed the latest Vought drama. Robin's death had been spun into a heroic accident caused by A-Train's pursuit of a dangerous criminal. Vought's PR machine was in full swing, downplaying the tragedy while subtly painting the deceased as unfortunate collateral damage.
"Poor girl never stood a chance," Derek muttered, his fists clenching. The weight of knowing what was to come pressed on him. If the timeline stayed intact, this was only the beginning of Vought's web of lies.
The system's familiar voice echoed in his mind. *"Stabilization in progress. Plot threads realigning. Hughie Campbell's involvement detected."*
Derek sighed. "So it's really happening, huh? Hughie's going to go after the Supes."
*"Indeed. The path is set. Deviations have been minimal, but be aware—the more you interact, the more unpredictable the consequences become."*
Derek knew that. But sitting in this rundown safe house while the world outside spiraled further into chaos wasn't an option for much longer. The story was moving forward, and he needed to be ready.
As the news shifted to a report about a superhero mysteriously disappearing, Derek's attention piqued. The hero in question? Translucent.
*"They've got him,"* Derek thought, his mind racing. Butcher and Hughie must have already captured Translucent, meaning things were about to get bloody.
The system hummed in agreement. *"The timeline is stabilizing around key events. Translucent's fate is crucial to the balance."*
"Yeah," Derek muttered, leaning back against the wall, eyes scanning the city skyline from the window. "And what about me? How do I fit into all this?" The system remained silent, offering no answers. Derek knew it wasn't time for him to intervene just yet, but the temptation to get involved burned deep.
The following days were a blur of training. Every morning, Derek would rise before dawn, sweat pouring off him as he pushed his Thor powers to their limit. Lightning crackled at his fingertips, the sheer force of it sending tremors through the building's foundation as he focused on control, not just raw power.
The system occasionally chimed in with updates, analyzing his progress. *"Physical synchronization at 85%. Thor's powers becoming more stable. Integration of Asgardian physiology is progressing."*
Derek was starting to feel it. The powers were no longer foreign—they were becoming his. But as he drilled more into Thor's abilities, a sense of frustration gnawed at him. He was stronger, faster, but was it enough? He still couldn't shake the image of Homelander's brutal strength.
In the quiet of his training room, Derek finally addressed the system again. "So, if I'm supposed to change the timeline, what's my next move?"
*"Timing is critical. Hughie Campbell's actions will create ripples, but you must not rush your involvement."*
"Yeah, yeah, I know. But I can't just sit here forever," Derek grumbled. His thoughts drifted to Butcher. That guy was planning something big, and Derek needed to know what.
"I need to stay ahead," Derek muttered. "If Butcher's after the Supes, I've got to be prepared." The system offered no immediate reply, leaving Derek to wrestle with his thoughts. He had to bide his time, but the urge to act was becoming unbearable.
It wasn't long before Derek caught wind of something interesting. While moving through the city under a low profile, he picked up on rumors floating around among the street-level thugs and criminals who loitered near Vought Tower. Word on the street was that Vought was freaking out about a missing hero—Translucent, specifically.
Derek didn't need much to put two and two together. Butcher must've gotten him, but what was the plan?
He spent the day listening to the chatter, blending into the crowds, his new shape-shifting ability making it easier than ever to slip into different identities. He looked like just another guy in the city, swapping appearances at will—a subtle but invaluable gift from the system.
As evening fell, Derek stood outside a grungy bar where a group of Vought insiders had gathered. He leaned against a wall, listening carefully to their conversation through an open window.
"They haven't found Translucent yet?" one of the men hissed, clearly panicking.
"Not yet," another voice replied. "Vought's putting everything into covering this up. But if Butcher's involved, it's only a matter of time before things get messy."
Derek smirked. "So, Butcher's really moving fast."
*"Critical event detection,"* the system's voice broke in. *"Translucent's containment is unstable. Suggest increased vigilance."*
"I get it, I get it," Derek whispered under his breath. His suspicions were confirmed—things were about to spiral fast. He needed to decide what role he was going to play in this. Stay in the shadows? Or step into the light?
Back at the safe house, Derek stood on the rooftop, the cool night air whipping against his face. His mind buzzed with everything he'd learned that day. Butcher and Hughie had Translucent. Vought was scrambling. And he was here, caught between letting the story unfold and wanting to make a difference.
As he gazed out over the city, the system chimed in once more. *"Current events suggest a tipping point. The actions taken regarding Translucent will have far-reaching consequences."*
Derek let out a long breath, his gaze hardening. "I know. It's Hughie's turning point, isn't it?"
*"Correct. The death of Translucent will propel Hughie deeper into the conflict. Caution is advised if you intend to intervene."*
Derek knew the system was right. Hughie killing Translucent was necessary for his character development. But that didn't make it easier to watch the events unfold from the sidelines.
He clenched his fists, lightning sparking briefly in his palms. Part of him wanted to charge in and change everything right then and there. But another part—one that was starting to sound a lot like Thor—told him to wait, to strategize.
"Timing, huh?" Derek murmured. He shook his head, stepping back from the edge of the roof. "I'll let them play it out... for now."
But something told him he couldn't wait much longer. Soon enough, his path would cross with Butcher's. And when it did, the whole game might change.
As he descended back into the safe house, Derek's thoughts were consumed by one thing: how much longer could he afford to wait?
### Chapter: Into the Chaos (Scenes 5-8)
**Scene 5: Translucent's Fate**
Hours passed, the city alive with the low hum of night traffic, distant sirens, and murmurs of restless citizens. Derek leaned against the cold wall of the safe house, his mind racing. He had been keeping tabs on Hughie's situation through news outlets and chatter he picked up in the streets. The tension was palpable—something was about to happen, and he knew exactly what it was.
The system broke the silence in his head. *"Critical event underway. Hughie Campbell and William Butcher's attempt to eliminate Translucent has commenced."*
Derek's heart raced. This was it—Hughie's first kill. The moment that would set him on the path to becoming the broken, vengeful man Derek knew from the original timeline. A part of him felt like intervening, but deep down, he knew this event had to play out.
He turned the TV on, flipping through channels until he found the late-night news. Breaking news. Reports of a police chase, Vought refusing to comment on the whereabouts of one of their top heroes—Translucent. The story was unfolding right before his eyes.
"I should be out there," Derek muttered under his breath, clenching his fists as lightning flickered briefly at his fingertips. The system stayed silent, offering no counsel, allowing Derek to wrestle with his thoughts. It wasn't time for him to step in just yet.
He remembered the power struggle inside Hughie's head from watching the show: the decision to go from an ordinary man to someone willing to kill. It had been agonizing. That was where Hughie's arc would solidify, where he would truly start down the path of vengeance.
Suddenly, the system pinged again. *"Translucent's heart has ceased. Campbell's involvement confirmed. Vought is now aware of a threat to its Seven."*
Derek exhaled slowly. Hughie had done it. The wheels were now officially in motion, and there was no turning back. But this also meant Vought would go after Butcher—and anyone associated with him—harder than before. The stakes were about to rise.
Derek turned off the TV and leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling. The question loomed in his mind: What role would he play in this story? Would he just let it run its course, or would he step in and change things when the time came?
**Scene 6: A New Development**
The following morning, Derek was in the middle of training when the system chimed again.
*"Point threshold reached. Auto-spin initiated. Preparing reward…"*
Derek paused mid-punch, his body tingling with energy. "Wait, what?" Before he could fully process what was happening, a bright flash filled his vision, and the system spoke again.
*"Congratulations. You have acquired a new stack up in the ability: Shape-Shifting (Mystique's Variant). This power will now be integrated into your template alongside shape shifting and Thor's abilities."*
Derek stood there, frozen for a moment as the information washed over him. Mystique's shape-shifting abilities? The stacked up, makes it a more OP ability, right? That was a game-changer. He flexed his fingers experimentally, imagining a different form. Almost instantly, his features began to shift—his body slimming down, his skin morphing into a new hue. He looked into a cracked mirror in the corner of the room and saw an entirely different man staring back at him.
"Holy shit," he whispered, staring at the unfamiliar face. His heart pounded in his chest as he tested the limits of the ability, shifting back and forth between identities. This would give him an incredible advantage—especially against Vought.
Moreover, the extent of his shape shifting was far greater than how it was before.
He smiled, realizing that the system was giving him what he needed to survive in this world. With Mystique's powers, he could slip in and out of identities undetected. Homelander would never see him coming.
But with this new power came a new responsibility. He couldn't afford to be reckless. If Vought found out he could shape-shift, they'd come down on him even harder. He needed to play it smart.
*"Integration complete. Powers are now synchronized with Thor template. Efficiency at 90%,"* the system added, almost as if reading his thoughts.
Derek couldn't help but grin. "Looks like things just got a little more interesting."
A week passed, with Derek continuing his rigorous training regimen, testing the limits of both his Thor and shape-shifting abilities. The system remained mostly silent, only chiming in occasionally to update him on his progress or offer cryptic advice.
By the end of that week, Derek felt stronger—more in control. He could feel the power coursing through him, and with Mystique's abilities in his arsenal, he had a new level of confidence. But that confidence didn't dull the awareness of the storm brewing outside.
On the eighth day, Eric contacted him.
The phone rang twice before Derek picked it up. "You've been quiet," Eric said, his voice gruff as ever.
"Just training," Derek replied, keeping his tone casual. "You hear about what happened to Translucent?"
There was a brief pause on the other end. "Yeah. Vought's in full cover-up mode. They're trying to keep this thing under wraps, but we both know it's going to blow up eventually."
Derek nodded, even though Eric couldn't see him. "And when it does?"
Eric's voice lowered, almost conspiratorial. "You're going to need to be ready. You're not the only one who's noticed what's happening. People are starting to ask questions—about The Seven, about Vought."
"I'll be ready," Derek said, gripping the phone tighter.
Eric sighed. "Just… be careful. Vought's eyes are everywhere. Homelander's been on edge since Translucent disappeared. If he even gets a hint that you're involved…"
"I'm not stupid, Eric," Derek interrupted. "I know what I'm up against. I've been laying low, training."
Eric grunted in approval. "Good. Keep doing that. And if you need to disappear for a while… you know where to go."
Derek hung up, his mind buzzing with anticipation. The system chimed in as he put the phone down.
*"Translucent's death has shifted the timeline. The first cracks in Vought's foundation are beginning to appear. It is advised that you continue preparing for the coming conflicts."*
"Yeah," Derek muttered, staring at the wall. "I'll be ready."
That night, Derek sat on the rooftop of the safe house, staring out over the city. His mind was racing, his body still buzzing from the intensity of his training. He could feel the storm on the horizon—the inevitable clash between Butcher, The Boys, and Vought. And now, he was a part of it.
But what role would he play? Was he here to just watch the events unfold, or would he step in and change things?
The system's voice interrupted his thoughts. *"A key event is approaching. The confrontation between Hughie Campbell and A-Train is drawing near."*
Derek clenched his fists, lightning sparking between his fingers. "Hughie's going to need help," he muttered. "And I can't sit on the sidelines forever."
The system hummed in agreement. *"Your intervention is inevitable. But be cautious—each action you take will have lasting consequences."*
Derek smiled grimly, standing up and stretching his arms. "I wouldn't have it any other way."
He looked out over the city one last time before heading back inside. He had decisions to make—and soon, he would be forced to act.
But when that time came, he would be ready.

My patreon is cheap, and has a bulk update, unlike in this platform where update is around once every 2 or 3 days. Some are already becoming a member, so it would be great, if more people became a member. You would get greater benefits with each tier. As high as being able to change some plot, in a way.
And also u would get NSFW images, so yeah.
