Chapter 30: Chapter 30: Magic Enhancement
With Ernie joining, Noah's small team had now grown to six members.
This made their daily studies even more interesting. For instance, Ernie, much like Hermione in the beginning, was full of endless questions.
Fortunately, having learned from his experience with Hermione, Noah immediately had the Room of Requirement find a suitable teacher for him this time.
No matter what kind of question Ernie had, as long as it wasn't too complicated, Noah and the others could answer it directly. If it was beyond their knowledge, the "professor" summoned by the Room of Requirement would handle it.
Ernie found this whole experience astonishing.
No matter what book he wanted to read, it was available here!
No matter what questions he had, someone in the group could answer them!
And if they couldn't, they could even summon a professor to teach him!
Most importantly, there were unimaginable experimental materials at their disposal!
It was all too overwhelming for Ernie. He finally understood why Hermione had decided to follow Noah and his group of boys so closely.
This place was simply a magician's paradise. Who wouldn't want to be a part of this?
Every time he spoke with the members here, he felt like he was gaining extra knowledge.
It was unimaginable—Hermione's theoretical knowledge was already much better than his, but even she continued to learn new things here!
Of course, this wasn't even the most shocking part. The most shocking thing was Noah himself, the leader of the "Mage Alliance."
This guy spent all day summoning terrifying creatures using the Room of Requirement, which left Ernie completely stunned. Even though he knew there was no real danger, was this really necessary?
But what truly broke him was watching Noah effortlessly take down all these monsters by himself.
Merlin's beard, what was this guy thinking?!
Even for an adult wizard, facing these creatures would be a serious challenge. Even Professor Lockhart wouldn't dare claim he could handle them all. But Noah? He acted like it was nothing!
And that wasn't even the end of it.
When Lance, Kenn, and Evan began training the same way Noah did, Ernie finally realized just how little he actually knew.
He couldn't hold back any longer—he had to ask.
"Why do you all train like this? It doesn't seem like we'll need to deal with such monsters anytime soon, right?" Ernie asked during a break.
"What? Oh, you mean those monsters?"
Noah was preparing a cup of black tea, planning to relax for a bit, but he still answered Ernie's question.
"It's true that we may not encounter them anytime soon, but it never hurts to be prepared. Besides, haven't you noticed that we're defeating them in the easiest way possible?"
"The easiest way?" Ernie thought back—come to think of it, that did seem to be the case!
Every time they fought, they would first try all the spells they knew. But in the end, they would always finish the monster off with a single, decisive spell.
But what was the point of doing that?
"Point?" Lance leaned against a bookshelf, reading.
Hearing Ernie's question, he chuckled. "The point is to familiarize ourselves with the creatures and verify if they match what's written in books. For example, the Basilisk may seem terrifying, but a well-placed Blasting Curse can deal with it. However, we also consider whether other spells might work better—ones that require less effort."
"But what's the point of that? You could just cast a few Blasting Curses and be done with it!" Ernie still didn't get it.
"True," Lance admitted. "For us, we already know the strengths and weaknesses of most known magical creatures. We know what they fear and what they're resistant to. But casting more spells benefits us too—it helps us become more familiar with our magic and, more importantly, it serves the most crucial purpose."
"The most crucial purpose?"
"Yes, and you must swear on Merlin's name not to tell anyone!"
"Alright, fine! I swear on Merlin that if I let it slip, I'll become a Squib!"
That was a serious oath. For a wizard, becoming a Squib was an unthinkable fate!
Lance looked satisfied with Ernie's vow. He glanced at Noah, who gave him a small nod. That was all the confirmation he needed. He put his book down and sat up straight.
"Listen carefully, mate. This is something Noah discovered. Have you ever noticed how ridiculously high Noah's magic power is? The Levicorpus spell was invented by Professor Snape in his later years. It's incredibly difficult. Even my father took a whole week to master it—but Noah learned it effortlessly!"
"You mean the spell he used against the troll? I heard it's considered Dark magic. Sorry, I don't mean to question it—it's just… it was terrifying to watch. But still, why can Noah master such advanced spells so easily?"
"That's because Noah's magic level completely surpasses ours!"
Lance paused, letting the words sink in.
Kenn, Evan, and even Hermione looked over. They had already realized this difference long ago, but they still wanted to hear the explanation again.
Lance sighed and continued, "Noah discovered that our magical power doesn't just grow with age—it can actually be increased through special methods!"
"What?!" Ernie was dumbfounded. What did that even mean?
Could a wizard's magical power actually be improved beyond natural growth?!
Before he could ask anything, Lance continued, "Yes, and the way to increase it is by casting spells as much as possible. The more we use magic, the more our magical energy and mental strength are exercised, allowing us to continuously increase our magical power!"
"Is that really possible?" Ernie was in disbelief. Magic could grow through training?!
Now he finally understood why the others constantly challenged such terrifying creatures—they were training themselves through battle!
Sure, magical artifacts that absorbed and stored magic could provide some benefits, but nothing compared to real combat. Facing real threats forced their magic and potential to grow even faster!
Of course, it wasn't truly dangerous, because they already knew the weaknesses of each creature.
As long as they used the correct spells at the right time, they could take down these monsters easily!
"So, has it actually worked?" Ernie finally asked the most important question. If this method didn't work, then it just meant Noah was naturally gifted.
At this, Lance and the others exchanged looks before Lance smirked mischievously.
"Perfect timing. Let me show you the spell my father took a week to learn. Guess what? I've mastered it now!"
"Wait, no! Don't—" Ernie suddenly had a very bad feeling.
"Levicorpus!"
"Bloody hell! Put me down, you idiot!"
