Chapter 46: Conspiracy
"Bang!" The heavy ashtray slammed onto the coffee table.
With a crash, the reinforced glass shattered into irregular small round pieces the size of coins.
Immediately, more than a dozen people, including the doormen and security guards in black suits with walkie-talkies, appeared from nowhere and surrounded Blake.
"What's going on here?"
A man, at least six feet tall and over thirty-five years old, wearing a black suit, pushed through the crowd and approached the waiter who had led Blake in.
"Sir Lu!"
The waiter quickly greeted the man respectfully and then whispered in his ear, explaining what had happened.
As he listened, Lu scrutinized Blake from head to toe. Blake, dressed in luxury brands, maintained a calm demeanor. Lu couldn't afford to be too hasty. He waved for the others to disperse and sat down on a nearby single sofa.
"Sir, I don't know if there's anything about our service that upset you. If our people didn't satisfy you, take it out on me. Whatever you want to play here today, it's on me!"
Uncle Wang had mentioned to Blake that this place was run by a so-called "Big Brother" of the underworld. Even though it wasn't in the heart of the city, this six-story building, housing KTV, bathhouses, nightclubs, and other entertainment facilities, wasn't something an ordinary thug or person could manage.
Reaching such a status meant that ordinary brawls wouldn't even catch their attention. If you accidentally stepped on their foot on the street, they might apologize first. Given Blake's expensive attire and confident demeanor, Lu decided to start with polite words to gauge the situation.
Blake didn't waste time on pleasantries. He slapped a bank card on the table with a snap.
"This card has two million yuan. The password is six zeros. I don't care if this place belongs to your Boss or some Big Brother, I want to discuss a small business. Whether it succeeds or not, consider this money a meeting gift."
Two million as a door opener left Lu hesitant to make a decision. He quickly said, "Please wait a moment," and went to make a phone call.
Within two minutes, Lu returned and respectfully said to Blake, "Our boss is currently occupied. If you don't mind, I'll arrange for you to go upstairs and take a bath to relax. He'll be back shortly to meet you."
"Okay!"
Blake didn't object and followed Lu upstairs. After making sure Blake was settled, Lu hurried to the lobby and checked the card balance. Confirming the amount, he called his boss again.

June 27, 2021, lunar calendar May 18!
Year of the Ox, Month of the Horse, Day of the Horse.
Avoid: Opening businesses, cutting wood, building beams!
Suitable: Engagements, completing marriage agreements, travel, moving houses!
This date, for many people, wasn't considered particularly auspicious for weddings, merely ordinary. However, Gu still chose this date.
At precisely 4:30 a.m., the bedside phone rang. It was the wake-up call Gu had specifically arranged with the hotel the night before. He hung up the phone and glanced at the naked, graceful figure beside him, half-covered by a blanket.
He opened the curtains to reveal the faint light of dawn. From the luxurious hotel room on the thirtieth floor, he could see early risers beginning to trickle onto the streets below.
Living in a luxury hotel suite, sharing a bed with a long-legged model he once only dreamed of—Gu was very satisfied with his current life, immensely satisfied. Even if it meant betraying his lifelong friend and sacrificing his marriage, he found it all worthwhile.
Standing on the balcony, breathing in the fresh air, he lit a cigarette and dialed the number saved as "Wife" on his phone.
"Hello?" A groggy and slightly irritated voice answered.
Gu's mood soured instantly at the sound.
"Still not up? Do you even know what time it is? Do you realize what today is? The makeup artist will be there soon. What were you doing last night? Were you at the nightclub again?"
Trying to keep his voice down, Gu couldn't hide the reprimand in his tone, though he attempted to sound less angry.
"What kind of attitude is that, Gu? We agreed to do our own thing. When you dragged me into embezzling Blake's company shares, you were like a lapdog."
"So what now? The company's about to go public, and you think you're all that? Let me remind you, according to our agreement, we both control the company. Without me, you'd be a minor shareholder, eventually kicked out by the venture capitalists!"
Her voice rose several decibels, clearly displeased with Gu's condescending tone.
"Shut up! You're just as greedy as I am, so don't put all the blame on me. I don't care what you do normally, but today is our wedding day, and last night you brought a gigolo to the hotel!"
Gu clenched his fist and slammed it against the balcony railing.
"You've got some nerve, Gu. Don't pretend you don't have a woman with you right now. Stop being so hypocritical. Once the company goes public and the shares are tradable in a year, I'm done with you. And remember, if you piss me off, I'll sell my shares to someone else!"
With that, the woman hung up, leaving Gu seething.
"Qu, you bitch!"
Gu almost smashed his phone in a fit of rage.
