Marvel : Strongest Siblings

Chapter 32: marvel 32

Now, under the cover of his Abyssal Mist, the prisoners stood outside in the snow, breathing in the crisp night air. They were free—truly free for the first time in years. Their bodies were whole, their minds clear, and the bitter cold of the night had no effect on them. Max's mist ensured that, wrapping them in a protective veil that shielded them from the harsh environment.

They low on snow, that now felt warm bed to them, as they kept sleeping,

Max's eyes settled on the six cryochambers, their glass surfaces fogged with the cold preservation of those inside. The temperature in this section of the facility was far colder than the rest, but it barely registered to him as he stepped closer to inspect the chambers. One of the names immediately stood out, etched into the metal plating beneath the glass: "Bucky Barnes."

"Bucky Barnes…" Max muttered, recognizing the name. The infamous Winter Soldier, a man who had been both a victim and a weapon, much like the prisoners he had just freed. But Bucky's story was different—he was a living legend, and Max had stumbled upon him in the last place he'd expected.

Max glanced at the control panel beside the chamber, scanning through the information. He furrowed his brow as he read the details.

"They were planning to defrost him soon," Max murmured, noting the time Hydra had set to awaken Bucky from his cryosleep. His infiltration of the base had initially been driven by revenge—he hadn't known exactly what kind of facility it was. But after delving deeper, the truth became clear: this was a training ground for Hydra's Winter Soldiers, a place where they experimented on those they deemed worthy of becoming living weapons.

The other prisoners, the ones Max had healed and freed, were survivors of the first stage of the Winter Soldier program. They were the lucky few who had barely made it through the initial stages of Hydra's brutal conditioning and augmentation. But even they weren't supposed to survive—they had been left to rot, too unstable or broken to be useful. Only those cryogenically preserved in the chambers ahead had a future in Hydra's plans.

Max's eyes narrowed as he took in the sight of the remaining chambers. Each one held a person—individuals Hydra had deemed worthy of being enhanced, frozen until the time came for them to be unleashed. Bucky was one of them, the perfect soldier in their eyes.

The thought of Hydra continuing this twisted legacy angered Max. He knew what kind of life Bucky had led under their control—an existence of pain, manipulation, and bloodshed. And if Hydra was still operating these kinds of facilities, still creating soldiers like him, then something had to be done.

Max's fingers hovered over the controls of Bucky's cryochamber. He could defrost him now, wake him before Hydra had the chance to recondition his mind, or he could leave him in stasis, allowing Bucky to rest a little longer.

"I will see him later," Max mumbled to himself as he looked at the others. He knew about Bucky, but not about these five. He controlled his mist as it entered the crowd chamber, slowly infiltrating the minds of the group. Since they were alive, Max was able to extract information. It was one of the abilities he discovered during his year-long training—it could enter a person's body, control them, and read their memories.

Max stood in front of the cryochambers, his mind digesting everything he'd learned. His mist had slithered into the minds of the five individuals inside, seeping through their thoughts, memories, and deepest fears. One by one, the truth of who they were became clear.

Four of them were no more than Hydra's obedient creations—twisted, ruthless killers, each willingly molded into weapons of war. They were beyond redemption, their minds already darkened by Hydra's indoctrination. Max's eyes flashed coldly as he made his decision, swiftly and silently ending their lives with a mere thought. His mist constricted around their minds, cutting off their consciousness like snuffing out a flame.

But one of them—Yulia Volkova—was different.

She, too, had been a victim of Hydra's experiments, much like Bucky. Her story unraveled before Max's eyes, each memory revealing her tragic fall into the underworld. Once a determined woman seeking justice for her husband's death at the hands of a corrupt cop, Yulia had spiraled into a life of violence and crime. She had risen through the ranks of the criminal underworld, becoming the feared and revered champion of the illegal fighting pits. But in the end, her quest for justice had led her into Hydra's hands, where they had exploited her ambitions and willpower to survive.

Yulia had been promised power—a drug that could make her as strong as Captain America. But instead, she found herself imprisoned and transformed into yet another puppet in Hydra's arsenal, her mind conditioned just like Bucky's.

Max stared at Yulia's cryochamber, the mist still swirling around her, but he hesitated. She had fought so hard for justice, only to become trapped in a cycle of manipulation and control. Her life, much like Bucky's, had been stolen from her. He couldn't kill her—not yet.

"I'll deal with her later," Max murmured, his voice low. She was a complex case, far more than just another Hydra weapon, she is like Bucky.

Max's lips curled into a sly grin as he made his way deeper into the facility. The carnage was already behind him, but now the real prize awaited. Hydra's operations were vast, and their coffers even more so. The true reason he had come to this particular base wasn't just for revenge, but for other thing-- the thing that only dead could provide him, but aside from it, there is another opportunity now lie in front of him—an opportunity to siphon Hydra's ill-gotten wealth right from under their noses.

"First, let's steal from them," Max thought with a smirk, making his way toward the underground command center.
