Chapter 6: Inside Mirror (2)
Roger turned around to see a woman in ancient Greek battle attire, Diana... Wonder Woman.
Wonder Woman carried her shield on her back and held the Godkiller sword, pointing it at Roger.
"If he goes back, who knows if he'll bring back even more powerful allies to take Sally away? We can't take that risk."
"Clark, think about this world. From its beginning as a small patch of land less than ten square kilometers, it has grown into a real world, with nature, animals, and every living being. All of them will be in danger because of your mercy."
A red figure, surrounded by flickering electric arcs, appeared on the scene.
"Ah, sorry, we can't let you leave. But if you're willing to stay, we can coexist peacefully. And this world isn't bad; the pizza is delicious. Want a slice?"
The speaker was the Flash, Barry Allen, still looking like a sixteen or seventeen-year-old neighborly kid.
"I'm afraid not letting me leave has other reasons, like what you just said. Sally is the source of energy for this world, like the sun. She expanded the entire world from a dozen or so square kilometers to its current boundless size. If I were to be added, it might become an even larger world, wouldn't it? Right?" Roger said, smiling at Batman.
"..."
After a moment, Batman said gravely, "You're very smart. Adding another god, the whole world would evolve even further. That's the result of my calculations."
"So, it looks like we have to fight. Unfortunately, my specialty isn't exorcism; it's sending them to see God—" Roger's hand began to emit black smoke, his body slowly turning crimson.
Cracks in his skin began to reveal sparks of fire.
Just then, an unexpected person launched the first attack, raising a shotgun and firing at Batman.
The dense pellets covered the entire confined space, but Superman was incredibly fast. Before the bullets could hit, he'd already moved in front of Batman, blocking all the projectiles.
"T-800, why are you betraying us?" Superman asked gravely.
"My programming, from the moment I was created, is to serve only the Queen. Her will is my life," Arnold, wearing sunglasses, said coolly.
"Forgot you're a robot, with no human emotions—" Batman said through gritted teeth, then turned to look at the other robots.
"Since you've betrayed us, there's no need to talk to the other robots."
Just as Batman finished speaking, a disguised, silver liquid metal robot jumped up from the ground.
It was a T-1000. It transformed its hand into a spike, aiming for Batman's jaw.
Unfortunately for it, the most powerful man in the red underwear was by his side. Superman extended a hand, blocking the T-1000's spike, and with a casual flick, shattered it into pieces.
At that moment, another liquid metal figure, a T-X, hiding in the crowd in the distance, fired its plasma cannon, directly hitting Batman. Because the plasma cannon fired at the speed of light, and it was fired from behind Superman, a blind spot for his eyes, Superman didn't react in time.
But someone else did. In the nick of time, Barry pushed Batman aside. The plasma blast grazed Batman, leaving him severely injured.
"Bruce—" Superman roared in anger. His best friend's injury enraged him. His eyes turned red, and he scanned all the robots present.
[According to calculations, Batman is the mastermind of the Justice League. Eliminating him will increase the probability of victory by 50%.]
[Priority target: Eliminate Batman.]
[Priority target: Eliminate Batman.] +100
Robot voices echoed everywhere. Sally covered her mouth in disbelief. She had simply created these movie robots according to her own ideas, never expecting them to become the key figures in saving her today.
[All Skynet robots, devoid of emotion, follow your will as the ultimate directive. Please leave first. Arnold will cover your retreat.] Arnold, wearing sunglasses, said calmly to Sally.
Suddenly, the scene erupted in chaos. Sally had used Skynet robots as slaves to build her pyramid, meaning there were many more robots than movie characters. Now, the Skynet robots, following Sally's will, attacked the other virtual heroes, turning the scene into a massive free-for-all.
"Now's our chance. Let's go." Roger pulled Sally over and lifted her onto the motorcycle he'd retrieved from his inventory.
Boom—
Roger twisted the throttle to the maximum, driving the motorcycle into the air. At the same time, the entire motorcycle began to be enchanted, transforming into the Hell Cycle.
"You, none of you can run—Barry, stop them!" Superman wanted to go after them, but Skynet robots, seemingly endless, swarmed towards Batman.
Worried about his friend's life, Superman couldn't get away for the moment. He could only call on another incredibly fast person for help.
"Sorry, I have to stop you from leaving this world." Barry activated his Speed Force, blue lightning arcing across his body. He ran in front of Roger at incredible speed and then pushed his bike.
When Barry touched Roger's bike, a spark immediately crawled up his hand. Barry didn't pay it much mind at first. With his speed, he could just shake off the fire. But—
"Aaargh—This fire, this fire is wrong!" Barry screamed and rolled on the ground. In a few moments, he was reduced to ashes.
After pushing Roger's bike, Barry discovered that the flames on the motorcycle weren't ordinary fire. They burned directly into the depths of his body and soul. Even taking off his suit couldn't extinguish them.
"Sorry, I like Barry too, but you're not the real him." Roger steadied the bike again, signaling for Sally to hold on tight.
Hellfire, the wrath of God, refined by the demon lord Mephisto, wasn't something they could withstand. They were merely people constructed from Sally's soul and memories, a single thought.
Flames that specifically targeted the soul were their ultimate weakness. No matter how powerful Sally had made them, their souls were still a weak point, not even a ten-thousandth as strong as Sally's.
"Clark, don't worry about me. Go after them quickly. Be careful of that person's flames."
"But—"
"Which is more important, my life or this world's?"
"Understood." Clark took a deep breath, exhaling a hurricane that blew away a large portion of the surrounding robots.
"Go, Clark. I'll protect Bruce." Wonder Woman jumped in front of Bruce.
Superman nodded, instantly taking flight. He activated his super speed and flew towards Sally, a god of death amongst mortals, unstoppable. Whether it was Arnold or the liquid metal robots, Superman shattered them with a single punch, turning them into scrap metal.
"Quick, think of something! This is your world!" Roger shouted at Sally.
"What can I do? I'm just an ordinary person. And now I can't destroy them." Sally was frantic. "Stupid! You are the creator of this world, create!"
"Create?"
"Idiot, kryptonite! Create a bunch of kryptonite!" Roger felt like hitting his head against a wall. This woman was so dense.
Not only did she create a bunch of superheroes, but she even gave them the exact same personalities as in the comics. Even more ridiculously, she couldn't control them.
And now, she couldn't even destroy them.
However, it was also possible that Bruce had done something to prevent Sally from making them disappear with a thought.
When in doubt, or when you can't figure something out, just blame it on Batman.
Oh, right, a group of robots were still pretty loyal—
"Right, right, kryptonite." Sally closed her eyes, and a lot of green, glowing kryptonite appeared out of thin air.
"Kryptonite—" Superman's expression changed drastically. He knew his weakness better than anyone.
"Don't even think about stopping me." Superman's eyes glowed red. He used his heat vision, attacking from a distance, instantly destroying all the kryptonite. But because of this, he didn't dare approach them.
Also, because Sally and Roger were so close, he was afraid to launch a long-range attack, fearing that if Sally died, the world might be destroyed as well.
[Roar—]
Suddenly, after a tremor that shook the mountains, a massive figure blocked the exit. No matter how good Roger's driving skills were, he couldn't get past it now.
"Roar—" The giant beast roared at the two, turning into a hurricane that blew them to the ground.
"What the hell! Why did you create a Godzilla?" Roger's eyes widened, looking up in astonishment at the mountain-sized beast.
"I... my son likes Ultraman, so I made one out of curiosity..." Sally blushed, speaking softly.
"Hey, wait, what did you just say? The previous sentence—"
As if remembering something, Sally and Roger looked at each other, then at the limited-edition Tiga figure in her hand.
"Ultraman—" +2 (Both of them said)
Sally didn't need any further prompting this time. She immediately raised the figure and shouted, "I believe in the light! Come forth, Tiga—"
The Tiga figure in her hand emitted a dazzling light, and a Giant of Light, 120 meters tall and weighing over 40,000 tons, appeared.
Slowly, the light faded.
After appearing, Tiga nodded to Roger and Sally, then charged straight at Godzilla, colliding with it and sending it rolling to the ground.
Then he jumped on top of it and started pounding it, giving Godzilla no chance to fight back.
Seeing that no one could stop Sally and Roger from escaping through the exit, despair filled Superman's eyes.
Finally, he gritted his teeth, a determined resolve in his gaze.
Just as Sally was about to step through the portal Roger had come through, a blindingly intense light appeared.
The light was as bright as the sun, making it impossible to look directly at. A figure with a cape billowing behind him, and an "S" emblazoned on his chest – a Superman of Light – appeared on the scene.
"Wait—Sally, can you listen to me for a few sentences? Just a few, please."
The Superman of Light slowly flew to Sally and Roger. At this point, he was no longer affected by kryptonite.
Because he had burned his own life force, using the power of his life to resist the kryptonite's effects.
Sally, with one foot already in the portal, just one step away from leaving, hesitated and looked at Roger. Roger nodded.
"Speak."
The Superman of Light smiled at Roger, thanking him, then said to Sally.
"You shaped me, gave me the same personality and abilities as in the comics. So I was the first in this world to awaken to self-awareness. My super-brain can figure out many things.
When I learned that I was just a fictional comic book character, I was lost and in pain for a while. But then, slowly,
I discovered the nature here, the insects, the animals. They were becoming more and more real, from just an outline at the beginning to having internal organs, even blood.
All of this filled me with joy. Seeing small animals being preyed upon by other animals, I felt sad. But seeing new animals being born, I cried tears of happiness.
Slowly, I stopped caring about my own existence, or whether I was a fictional Superman. I just wanted to protect this world, to watch it grow."
The Superman of Light extended his hand hopefully. "And all of this is because of you. You are this world's creator. Your strong emotions and love have allowed this world to begin to evolve on its own, making it more and more real.
If you leave, countless lives here, the nature and animals I love, will all vanish.
Stay, please, our god, our creator."
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I can't abandon my son. He needs me. I love him, just as you love this world." Sally's tears flowed uncontrollably. She covered her mouth with her hands, apologizing repeatedly.
"I don't understand. He's your child, but aren't we too? Are you going to abandon thousands and thousands of children for just one?" The Superman of Light looked at Sally with an expression of utter despair.
Roger reached out and caught a tear that Sally shed, handing it to the Superman of Light.
"This is a mother's tear—"
The Superman of Light extended both hands, slowly receiving the tear.
Slowly, multicolored light, like a rainbow, emanated from Superman's hands.
Soon, the rainbow-like light permeated Superman's entire body, turning the Superman of Light into a Rainbow Superman.
"I understand now. So this is love—"
"This is true love..." Superman smiled wryly. "Our feelings can't compare to true love."
The light around Superman began to dim. Cracks started to appear on his body. It was clear that his burning life force was reaching its end.
"Go, Sally. Remember to tell your son Tom that Superman is also a Giant of Light, no less than Tiga, hehe."
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry..." Sally covered her mouth with both hands, her eyes red, tears streaming down, and then resolutely took the final step.
In the distance, Godzilla was still being held back by Tiga. The two mountain-sized giants were locked in combat, each blow capable of destroying a skyscraper.
And Wonder Woman was valiantly hacking at Skynet's robots, one slash per robot. Bruce lay on the ground, his fate unknown.
Dust, or perhaps green smoke, began to spread from the farthest reaches as Sally took her final step. All the skyscrapers began to crumble into nothingness.
A hurricane swept through. Everywhere it passed, buildings, plants, animals, the sky, the earth, including the sun, all returned to nothingness, leaving only a vast, white expanse, as if nothing had ever existed.
Until finally, the Superman of Light, standing at the entrance to the portal, also began to turn into wisps of green smoke, from head to toe.
Sally couldn't bear to watch any longer. She closed her tear-filled eyes and leaned against Roger.
"Sigh—let's go. Let's go back." Roger patted Sally's shoulder. She just closed her eyes and cried silently.
—————
And in the place where Superman had died, a small, multicolored object remained. It was the tear that the Superman of Light had held in his hands, Sally's tear...
