Chapter 96: Ch.96 Captain Has Truly Become Spider-Man
Near Stark Tower, 24-Hour Convenience Store.
"Slurp~"
By the roadside, steam rose in the cool night air.
Charlie and Old Man Steve were each holding a bowl of instant noodles, casually sitting around the entrance of the convenience store, slurping up their meal without any sense of decorum.
Behind them, Tuxedo Loki also had a bowl of instant noodles in hand. Despite the enticing aroma, he found it hard to eat.
No tables, no luxurious palace—how was he supposed to eat like this?
With passersby giving them strange looks, Loki's face shifted uncomfortably.
"I am the prince of Asgard. How can you make me eat such lowly mortal food?" He looked at Charlie, who was now drinking the noodle soup, and the more he thought about it, the angrier he got.
Charlie heard him, put down his noodles, and looked at Loki.
"If you don't like it, I can treat you to McDonna."
"What's that?"
"A burger."
"That'll do."
In Tuxedo Loki's mind, Thor also liked such food.
A burger must be a higher-class dish compared to instant noodles!
Next to them, Old Man Steve wiped his mouth after finishing his noodles and casually tossed the empty cup toward the trash can.
But it didn't go in.
"Abby囧囧囧 Elderly people should not litter~"
Suddenly, a horrifying voice appeared, and Old Man Steve's face changed.
Venom Parker leaped down from the roof, took small steps to pick up the empty noodle cup, threw it into the trash can, and ended with a "yes" gesture.
"Ugh~"
Seeing this again, Old Man Steve turned and vomited everything he had eaten.
"I told Norman and Dr. Curt to take him away; why is he here again?" he asked.
Charlie glanced at him, looking disdainful. "You're just being delicate, old man. Learn from me—I've been through so much over the years; this is nothing, just a small scene, no problem at all!"
Hearing this, Tuxedo Loki silently got up and walked away.
A second later, the sound of retching came from behind.
"Abby~ It's wrong to litter or throw up randomly~ Clean it up properly, please!"
"Ugh~"
In the corner, Loki looked at his bowl of noodles and shook his head.
Now he really couldn't eat it.
Watching Venom Parker begin to clean the scene, Charlie looked up at the rooftop.
"They're gone."
Tuxedo Loki waved his hand, and the scepter appeared in a flash of green light.
Buzz~
The light rippled, but Norman and Dr. Curt did not appear.
Loki frowned. "Did they break free from my control?"
"If they broke free, they would definitely cause a commotion. Any other possibilities?" Charlie asked.
"There are. They could be dead."
Hearing this, Charlie instinctively glanced around.
"S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are gone too."
"Nick Fury wouldn't give up the chance to monitor us; I'm sure of it," Old Man Steve, who had now recovered, said.
Charlie nodded. "So there's only one possibility—they're dead."
"To kill these people without us even noticing, Loki from this world couldn't do that," Tuxedo Loki said with certainty.
Charlie stood up, looking around. "Loki has a helper, maybe even one he doesn't know about."
"What?" Old Man Steve and Tuxedo Loki looked confused, not understanding what he meant.
Next moment, Spider-Sense alerted Charlie.
"Not good!"
The sudden wave of magic made Tuxedo Loki tremble in shock. "It's dark magic!"
The moment he finished speaking, a dark magic circle appeared under their feet.
Buzz~
As soon as the dark magic circle was completed, Charlie and Old Man Steve shot out web lines and swung away, leaving Tuxedo Loki behind in surprise.
"Wait for me!"
"Abby~ So scary!!"
Venom Parker screamed and tried to flee, but he was quickly dragged into the dark magic circle by ghostly hands.
It seemed that the "purified" Venom Parker had turned completely gentle and was utterly powerless.
Meanwhile, Charlie landed on a nearby billboard, watching as the ghostly hands engulfed Tuxedo Loki.
"Old man, something's off with you." He looked at Old Man Steve beside him with a strange expression.
Charlie had managed to dodge the dark magic thanks to his Spider-Sense, but how had Steve managed it?
Old Man Steve stood firmly. "Peter's spider-sense thing—I have it too, but it doesn't work as reliably as yours."
Charlie suddenly understood; he remembered that it was one of Steve's rewards for winning the resurrection tournament.
Plus, he was using the web shooters Charlie had lent him.
So, had this guy really become Captain Spider-Man?
Next second, the ghostly hands lunged out again, and both of them swung through the skyscrapers with their webs.
"Hey Spidey, what the hell are these ghostly things?" Old Man Steve shouted, narrowly avoiding being grabbed several times.
These ghostly hands seemed capable of extending indefinitely, quickly forming a dark cloud that covered the entire district.
Charlie didn't answer because he had already noticed the large, diamond-shaped mirror-like dimensional barriers rising around them.
They couldn't escape.
Boom!
The darkness surged, transforming the entire world into geometric shapes, and dark tentacles shot out from the dimensions, giving them no respite, soon leaving the two suspended upside down.
Seeing Dark Stephen emerge from a crimson portal, Old Man Steve exclaimed.
"Sorcerer Supreme, Doctor Stephen Strange!"
"No, Dark Sorcerer," Charlie corrected.
"How can you tell?"
"He doesn't have the Cloak."
"Would've been better if you'd let me guess."
Old Man Steve's face turned grim. Sorcerer Supreme Stephen Strange was a legendary sorcerer capable of suppressing Thanos.
If Thanos hadn't had the Infinity Stones, Strange alone could've defeated him.
And Stephen, who had learned dark magic, would only be stronger.
Crack, crack, crack-
As Dark Stephen formed a seal with his hands, the geometric constructs around them quickly closed in.
"Wait, as a villain, shouldn't you say a couple of lines before using your big move?" Charlie reminded.
Dark Stephen paused.
"There's nothing to say, because this isn't a big move."
After speaking, the geometric constructs engulfed the two.
...
[You have been eliminated, cannot obtain resurrection slot, reward: Primary Web Mode +1]
[Remaining restarts: 13. Restart?]
Restart!
Seventh Resurrection Tournament.
Amusement park battle.
After successfully hypnotizing Venom Parker, Charlie didn't head to Stark Tower but instead found the agents outside the amusement park, leading everyone back to S.H.I.E.L.D.
"Abby囧囧囧"
"No way~ You're all so mean~"
Outside the conference room, a group of agents struggled to calm Peter Parker while suppressing their disgust.
Inside the conference room, Nick Fury silently pulled down the blinds to avoid accidentally catching a glimpse of anything gross.
"What do you want?" He turned to Charlie.
Charlie glanced at the time and spoke directly, "In ten hours, Loki will use the Tesseract to open a portal, allowing an alien army to invade Earth."
"I don't know what you're talking about."
Nick Fury didn't acknowledge the existence of the Tesseract; instead, he looked at Tuxedo Loki beside Charlie and then at the vacant-eyed Norman and others.
"Besides, Loki is right here."
Charlie simply smiled.
"Doesn't matter if you don't admit it. Tomorrow, you'll know what I mean." Based on information he had gathered from several restarts, Dark Stephen first took care of Tony and Steve, then killed the agents lurking near Stark Tower.
It seemed he was helping Loki open the portal smoothly or perhaps eliminating obstacles while targeting Loki.
Maybe he had other purposes, but those were just Charlie's guesses; more testing was needed.
Nick Fury was also wary of Charlie and his group.
After a brief conversation, Fury had them secretly monitored before going to handle other troubles.
Charlie didn't mind.
"That guy plans to monitor us." Tuxedo Loki hated this feeling.
Charlie waved his hand dismissively. "Ignore it."
"But why are we here? Loki will soon open the portal; we should be at Stark Tower watching him," Tuxedo Loki suggested.
Charlie didn't explain, but Old Man Steve smiled. "Loki, from the start until now, you should've seen Spider-Man's power. Trust him."
Hearing this, Tuxedo Loki put aside his doubts about acting alone.
Indeed, throughout this journey, Charlie's ability to foresee the future had gained Loki's full respect.
Following him might not only earn an easy resurrection slot but also stop Loki from this world from making mistakes.
Old Man Steve had managed to win twice by tagging along with Spider-Man without any real skill—just by luck.
With that thought, Loki put his mind at ease.
Time passed quickly.
The next day, a bright light erupted from Stark Tower, and a blue portal slowly opened in the sky above the city.
Beep, beep, beep.
As the Chitauri army emerged from the portal, everyone at S.H.I.E.L.D. sprang into action, with one jet after another soaring off the deck toward the city.
Charlie and the others also moved with the main forces to the battlefield.
"What was the point of coming to S.H.I.E.L.D.?" Old Man Steve finally couldn't hold back his curiosity in the jet.
Charlie glanced at Agent Coulson in front of him.
"Go ahead, say what you found in S.H.I.E.L.D."
Coulson's lips curled into a smile, and he shimmered green, transforming into Loki.
"I found someone playing card games in the command center."
Charlie: "..."
"Anything else?"
"Nick Fury's secret—he likes rough-type movies."
"Anything else secret?"
"Of course. Butt Cap learned how to use a computer, and Fury recommended those movies to him."
"I never watched them." Old Man Steve blushed.
Tuxedo Loki laughed. "I never said it was you."
Charlie put his hand to his forehead. "Please stop the humor and tell me what I need to know."
"Alright."
Tuxedo Loki grew serious. "Tony and Steve are missing. They couldn't find any suspects, nor did they know a sorcerer existed in this world."
"Is that so?"
Charlie pondered.
Dark Stephen had the ability to easily locate and kill the contestants, yet he didn't do so.
He could easily have killed the Avengers as well, but he only killed Tony and Steve.
Charlie suspected there might be something in S.H.I.E.L.D. that Dark Stephen feared, perhaps the Sorcerer Supreme of this world.
That might explain why he was working covertly.
But it seemed he was mistaken.
As for the act of helping Loki open the portal, that too surely had another purpose.
Lost in thought, Charlie rode the jet into the city sky and quickly descended into the chaos of battle.
Swoosh.
Swinging through the sky, the Chitauri soldiers chasing him were shredded into pieces by web traps.
Soon enough, that familiar scent of blood returned.
"Charlie Parker, you finally showed up."
In the same place as before, Hydra Steve swung his tentacles toward Charlie, smashing the wall behind him.
"Steve, you must stay alive."
"Bucky!"
Boom!!
Bucky exploded immediately, the sharp shrapnel scattering, but Charlie had already predicted it and moved away from the explosion.
"What?"
Hydra Steve's face changed dramatically, only to see Charlie's figure launch towards him using a web slingshot.
"Damned spider."
He cursed, and nine crimson tentacles swept across, flinging cars at Charlie.
Boom, boom, boom!!
The explosions continued, the red and blue figure danced through the metal debris, his movements elegant and calm, closing in on the opponent in an instant.
Boom!!
Charlie's suit turned black, his eyes glowed red as he punched, and four black spider spears followed behind.
Slash, slash, slash-
Bang!!
Blood sprayed from Hydra Steve's chest as the terrible power destroyed his body, shattering his spine.
Losing Hydra's power, he fell to his knees, his eyes filled with despair.
"How could I be defeated so easily..."
Blood stained his shirt, Hydra Steve looked sideways at his fallen spine, clinging to a shred of hope.
Everyone has curiosity, even Spider-Man.
If he picks up that spine, I'll win!
Unfortunately, Charlie slung his web and flung the spine into the rubble, completely destroying his last hope.
"Sorry, I discovered your little secret."
"What?"
With that, Hydra Captain collapsed, dead without peace.
Soon, fire flashed across the sky.
Facing an endless alien army, New York's leaders had decided to use the ultimate weapon to launch a destructive attack.
They had abandoned New York.
S.H.I.E.L.D. was powerless to stop it.
The Avengers had lost Iron Man and Captain America, and even Thor hadn't shown up. Only Hulk remained as an unstable force—they were incapable of stopping anything.
Meanwhile, Tuxedo Loki, riding Norman's glider, sped into the sky, flying parallel to the incoming nuke.
"Shit, if it weren't for the resurrection slot, I wouldn't touch this thing."
In the air, Tuxedo Loki hugged the nuke, and his glider activated at full power, finally changing the missile's trajectory.
Swoosh-
Seeing the nuke head towards the portal, Nick Fury's hope reignited.
"All pilots, support him, prevent the aliens from getting close to the nuke."
"A126, roger!"
"A45, roger!"
"A87, roger!"
Instantly, the remaining jets fought desperately to clear a path for Loki.
On the other side, Charlie had reached the rooftop of Stark Tower.
The special device was wantonly discharging the energy of the Tesseract, while not far away, Old Man Steve and Horned Loki were fighting.
"This time, I won't let you hit me in the head."
Old Man Steve, in his muscle-bound devil form, suplexed Horned Loki into the ground.
"You're crazy! I've never even met you!"
Horned Loki got up in embarrassment and shouted angrily at Old Man Steve, "How dare you do this to me? Do you know who I am? I am..."
