Marvel: Restart! Spiderman!

Chapter 14: Ch.14 The Truth of Becoming Spider-Man

The villa was large, and because Norman's body couldn't be seen by anyone, the butler had sent everyone away.

Harry and the butler stayed in the room for a long time, giving Charlie plenty of time.

But even after searching every corner of the villa, Charlie couldn't find a cabinet or room that the green key could unlock.

Trying to figure out the key's secret on his own was proving difficult.

The key had an old design; perhaps Harry knew how it could be used.

As night fell, Harry, looking like a walking corpse, emerged from Norman's room.

He went into Norman's study and sat in the dark for a long time.

That night, he thought about many things, the weight on his shoulders so heavy that it suffocated him.

Helplessness, fear, and loneliness replaced the sadness in his heart.

On the roof, Charlie lay with his hands behind his head, looking up at the moon, quietly listening to the sound of sobbing from the study.

In this world, no one can truly empathize with another's pain.

Norman's death had dealt a huge blow to Harry, but Charlie could only feel a bit of sorrow.

He was Harry's best friend, but there wasn't much he could do for him.

All he could do was discreetly notify the butler to retrieve Norman's body. That was it.

Even if Norman hadn't died at the hands of the mysterious figure, Charlie would still have had to find a way to stop Norman's actions.

To Norman, death wasn't the scariest thing.

What he feared most was that one day he would go mad enough to harm Harry.

Although he had already done so...

And for Charlie, the fact that Norman didn't die by his hands was the best outcome.

That night, he spent it silently with his friend.

By the next morning, sunlight filtered through the window, warming Harry's face and causing him to shudder slightly.

After a night of grieving, he forced himself to pull together.

When John entered with breakfast, Harry exhaled and said, "John, we must keep Father's secret. To the outside world, we'll say he's resting due to illness. As for the company, I'll handle everything."

His gaze became resolute.

Protected by his father for so many years, it was now time for him to protect the Osborn Corporation, the thing his father had cherished.

With a look of relief in his eyes, John watched as Harry opened his computer and searched for all the information about the Green Goblin.

In the recent reports, the latest news about the Green Goblin was his fight with Spider-Man a few days ago.

"A soldier with a shield, exploding arrows, and the most troublesome Spider-Man."

Harry analyzed this information calmly, trying to figure out who had killed his father.

His father's fatal wound was the hole in his chest. After reviewing footage of the battle, Harry found that neither the soldier with the shield nor Spider-Man had the ability to break through the armor's defenses in such a way.

So, the culprit wasn't likely them.

Moreover, they hadn't captured his father that day.

"Harry, the autopsy report is out," John's phone rang, delivering the latest update.

"The hole in your father's chest wasn't caused by an explosion. The weapon was something like a beast's claws."

"A beast?"

Harry frowned. "What kind of clue is that?"

"And there's also this."

John took out the green key. "I found this by your father's bedside while cleaning up this morning. I must have missed it before."

"What is this?"

Harry took the key, a thought crossing his mind.

He quickly searched the study, eventually finding a small black box in the safe.

Seeing the box, Harry couldn't help but smile slightly.

"When I was little, Father used to play treasure hunts with me. I always found the treasure, but he'd hide the key and often cheat."

The fond memory faded quickly. He wiped away the smile and used the key to open the box, finding only a phone inside.

"What is Father trying to tell me?"

He took a deep breath and opened the video on the phone.

"Harry, my child, I'm sorry. If you're seeing this video, it means I'm already dead.

I can't control myself anymore, and I'm only able to leave you this message during a moment of clarity."

On the screen, Norman looked exhausted, but he still smiled as he spoke.

"You've always wanted to know why I spent most of my time and energy on experiments and never came back to the family.

Because of that, your mother left me, and you resented me. But I had no choice.

I'm telling you now because of the Osborn family's genetic disease. It begins to torment us after we turn 40, and eventually, it kills us.

You, too, will suffer from it, but you still have time.

I spent all my energy developing a genetic serum to cure the disease, but it has severe flaws. It's dragged me into madness, and I'll never be able to find redemption.

That's why you must never use it. But I believe you can perfect it. All the data is in my lab, and you know the password.

My son, I'm sorry I had to leave you in such a hurry. I can't hold on any longer.

I hope you can live a happy life, but some things are beyond our control. Please forgive me, your unworthy father.

Harry, I love you."

The video ended, with Norman's face frozen forever in the phone's screen.

Harry stared at the image of his father, unable to snap out of his daze.

A genetic disease... So that's why his father had taken such desperate risks?

His eyes reddened as he finally understood his father.

At the same time the video ended, Charlie received a video message from an unknown account.

"Charlie, congratulations. If you're seeing this video, it means you've successfully been transformed into a superhuman by the mutant spider."

Norman's opening words left Charlie in shock.

He became Spider-Man because of Norman?

Charlie continued watching.

"Yes, I knew your father. We were once great friends. He showed me his research—a project to create mutant spiders for human genetic modification.

That research inspired me to find a way to cure the Osborn family's genetic disease through gene modification.

The experiments were difficult, and I never gave up. But I must admit, I wasn't as brilliant as your father. My genetic experiments failed, and I became a mad monster.

During my period of madness, I did something insane.

After your father disappeared, I stole his mutant spider. I tried to replicate his research, but I couldn't.

So, in my madness, I placed the last remaining mutant spider near you, and it bit you.

I know you don't like spiders, but you didn't have a choice.

You could have died from it, or you could have turned into a monster. But I believed in your father. That spider was created with your DNA, so it would give you power beyond human limits.

This is something I couldn't accomplish.

I need a successful case of genetic modification to help me perfect the serum. I need you, Charlie.

Of course, that's what I think when I'm lucid.

But if I lose control of myself completely, I might see you as an enemy. If that happens, only you can stop me."

Norman's expression turned apologetic as he continued.

"I know I've been selfish. I'm sorry. I can't control myself. Harry doesn't know anything about this, and I hope you two remain the best of friends.

As Harry's father, I have one last warning for you: If anyone invites you to join a strange organization, don't do it. It's dangerous. Very dangerous."

The video cut off abruptly, and the file automatically deleted itself. Charlie was left deep in thought.

His missing father... a strange organization...

S.H.I.E.L.D.!

He immediately thought of the Avengers.

Could the mysterious person who killed Norman be connected to all this?
