Chapter 96: Chapter 95 - Revenge & Fatherhood I
The Department of Justice has released a chilling roster of names tied to the largest sex trafficking scandal in history. The list includes some of the world's wealthiest and most powerful individuals. Sources confirm the evidence—photos, videos, and call records—is airtight. But whether this leads to decisive courtroom rulings remains to be seen…
Three days had passed and Tony had made public the names he had received from Natasha. Over the past three days, almost a quarter of the names on the list had dealt with themselves. Some jumped off tall buildings, some drowned themselves, some took the rope, and a few took a bullet.
Of course, their names still went public, and their equally famous families had to face the shame of even being connected to such a person. Tony had no sympathy for them since, in many cases, the family knew about the shady dealings.
"Well, that's that." Tony muted the TV and eased back onto the comfortable couch. He was still in the White House, but it wasn't his office. Instead, he sat in the living room of the executive residence in the White House. "So, why did you want to see me? Got a new world-ending crisis or just a casual chat leading to something spicy?"
Raven smiled, sitting opposite to him. Having reverted to her natural blue skin, she got up and walked over to Tony's side. "I came to tell you something, Tony."
"Go ahead. I'm all ears." Tony nonchalantly replied, draping one arm around his cherished companion while grabbing his beer from the side table. "Wait, let me guess. Russia did something again?"
"No, Tony. It's about that man we caught at the Shield Base. The Winter Soldier, as he was called. Jean looked into his mind to try and rewind the brainwashing. She succeeded, but..." Raven paused, unnaturally so.
"But what?"
Raven scooted closer to Tony and softly caressed his chest. "Tony, your parents' death—it wasn't an accident. It was the Winter Soldier who killed them. Jean saw it in his mind."
Taken aback, Tony sat up straight and looked at Raven with full seriousness. He wasn't expecting his parents to be mentioned, let alone such a claim.
"What do you mean? I saw the reports—it was an accident," Tony countered, his tone laced with disbelief. "Even SHIELD bought that story."
Noticing the slow decline in Tony's emotions, Raven wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him.
"It's in his memory, Tony. Hydra used him to kill your parents. They covered it up."
"Where is he?" Tony jerked, pushing Raven away.
"At the school. Tony, don't go there. You're the President now, you can't act recklessly." Raven tried to hold onto him.
But Tony stood up and summoned his armor.
"Tony, don't go!"
"I need to hear it straight from the source," Tony replied and left swiftly.
Blasting through the DC sky and then New York, Tony flew at the highest speed possible, a thousand thoughts coursing through his head. He never stopped giving orders to Jarvis, searching for any tangible evidence to prove what Raven said was true.
Shield had nothing. So, Tony swept through the global security networks, from West to East, anywhere he could. He particularly focused on areas that used to be the USSR. But he had less hope. If there was any evidence, it wouldn't be stored in a computer connected to the internet.
"What do you think, Jarvis?"
"Based on the compiled data, I deduce several anomalies in the investigation. Mrs. Stark's autopsy indicates asphyxiation as the cause of death. However, the car window was open, and the engine fire was insufficiently widespread to justify it. Her only injuries were spinal and neck strains consistent with the crash. A tire bore a puncture, though no evidence of tampering surfaced. Mr. Stark's attire and palms contained traces of dirt and gravel, while his forehead exhibited three blunt injuries, inconsistent with a mere accident."
Tony fell into silence for a moment. He trusted Jarvis and its data analysis skills. If even Jarvis noticed anomalies, then there were.
"So it wasn't an accident?"
"Sir, based on the reports, the likelihood of a natural death is exceedingly low. The variables required for such an explanation are highly improbable," Jarvis gave a clear and cut answer. "The probability of foul play is considerably high."
That broke Tony. No matter how much he disliked his father, they were still his parents. Especially his mom whom he loved dearly. Their sudden demise had left him wounded and it still hadn't healed yet.
Furthermore, Howard was involved with SHIELD. The man was a target already, and his death was a sad shock but not beyond possibility. Maria, however, was completely innocent.
"Jarvis, call backup."
"On its way, Sir."

"Tony's on his way. I received the call from Raven," Jean announced as she ran into Magneto's room. Charles wasn't there as the man was also the Secretary of State and too busy.
"He's probably going to demand that guy be handed over."
"Let's welcome him then." Magneto stood up nonchalantly. "This matter does not concern us. It's up to Stark what he does with him."
"But Tony might kill him. That won't end well for anyone. As President, he can't afford to act like this," Jean reasoned, noticing others pouring into the room. "We need to de-escalate before Tony pushes too far—because if he does, we'll all pay the price."
"You wish to fight Stark?" Magneto eyed Jean with a threatening gaze. "You would stand with a murderer, against an ally who has fought for us, who made it possible for mutants to dream of a normal life?"
Shhhhh~
"He's here." Magneto felt the ground tremble and strode out of his room. "We won't fight him. This isn't our war, nor our burden. Hydra is also our enemy—never forget that."
Quickly, all of the X-Men members rushed out of the school building and looked above the lawn. A sole, red, and metallic suit of armor hovered there.
"Erik, hand him over!" Tony's voice reverberated.
"Stark, I'll hand over the hostage, but only if you come back tomorrow. Right now, you reek of bloodlust, and I can hear it in your voice. You'll kill him without hesitation." Erik tried to de-escalate the situation. "Come back tomorrow and do whatever you want with—"
But Magneto shut his mouth as he heard ten more Iron Guardians reach them and hover beside Tony, five on each of his sides. All of the Iron Guardians raised their hands towards the X-Men.
"This isn't about you, Erik, or mutants. Not even close. Last chance—hand over the damn Winter Soldier!" Tony's voice cut through, loaded with fury.
Magneto looked at Jean and the others beside him and shrugged. There was nothing else he could do without ruining the relationship they had built with Tony. Trying to save the killer of Tony's parents was the ultimate betrayal.
"Let me try."
Magneto looked behind in surprise. "Ororo? I would suggest otherwise."
Ororo didn't listen and took to the sky, flying slowly towards Tony until she was an arm's length away from him, face to face.
"You can't change my mind, Ororo." Tony rejected her before she said anything.
"Don't let yourself become a killer, Tony," Ororo softly said and raised her hand towards Tony. But midway through she stopped and retracted it. "That man was mentally corrupted and brainwashed to follow Hydra's orders. He had no control over his own body. Hydra commanders used trigger words that made him a killing machine, and he remembers every soul he killed to this day. Even with the brainwashing removed, he'll remember it till his death."
"He killed my mom, Ororo. And I'm not letting this slide until I hear him admit it. To my face!"
"And you'll swear to me that you won't try to kill him?"
Tony didn't respond to that.
"Tony… don't let anger consume you." Ororo flew slightly closer to Tony, her hand finally reaching and holding his metal-covered arm. "If not for yourself, then for what's growing inside me."
"What?" Tony's body jerked in disbelief. He quickly made Jarvis scan Ororo's body and sure enough, the signs were there. That left him even more shocked. "How? That night… you told me to…"
"I don't know how it happened, Tony. Despite all the precautions, it still did. I didn't tell you because I knew you wouldn't want this, and I made my decision. I took part in this willingly, and I have no reason to blame you," Ororo solemnly explained, still staring at Tony's visor-covered face.
Tony did remove that visor from his face so he could get a natural look. As the breeze hit his skin, his eyes glanced down at Ororo's belly which didn't look any different despite it being months since their last exchange.
Then he looked up at Ororo's face, her white hair fluttering in the wind, her blue eyes filled with concern for him. He truly couldn't tell how he should respond to this. He was still filled with fury but now, wanting to unleash it made him feel petty.
His blood still boiled, his desire to blast something or someone only boiling further. Yet, standing in Ororo's gaze, he didn't want to stoop that low. There were too many contradictory thoughts.
Woosh!
All of a sudden, the Iron Guardians around Tony started flying away one by one.
"I'm not forgiving him. Not now, not ever. And the murder? I won't forget that, either. When I get back, I'm handling it. In the most fitting way possible." Tony's figure slowly started flying backward. "Let's talk when I'm back."
"Where are you going?" Ororo asked.
"The root of all my problems."
Woosh!
Tony blasted off without giving a direct answer.
Ororo watched for a moment, discerning his direction. She then took out her phone and informed Raven about what had happened and where he might be heading.
