Marvel: NIHILITY

Chapter 37: When a man snaps

When David was holding Hela in grief, the cause of it all, the newborn celestial, Tiamut raised his hand towards them, to absorb their energy to recharge himself .

His cosmic energy that extended towards them was erased out of existence as David didn't even look up. His eyes still focused on the face of her.

The newborn Celestial descended, its towering form radiating waves of raw, untamed energy , but something was different in it. Its presence alone fractured the already broken earth beneath David's feet, fissures spreading out in jagged, glowing lines.

The space above was a void of swirling chaos, a swirling storm of stars and shadow, and the Celestial loomed like an apocalyptic judge.

It gazed down at David with cold, burning contempt, its many eyes gleaming with cosmic arrogance. "You, mortal," the Celestial boomed, its voice reverberating through the fabric of reality itself. "You dare stand against us? Against those who shaped existence?

You are nothing but an insect beneath the wheel of creation. I will extinguish you and all that you stand for."

David stood unmoving, his gaze locked on the Celestial. His expression was unreadable, his calm a stark contrast to the raging destruction around him.

The words of the Celestial passed over him like a faint breeze, their intended intimidation dissolving into irrelevance. He raised his hand, the faintest flicker of energy coiling around his fingers.

The Celestial's immense hand raised, energy gathering within its palm, a blinding mass of white-hot destruction that could annihilate entire galaxies. It hurled the energy downward with a deafening roar, the blast screaming toward David like the judgment of a god. There was a hint of an otherworldly energy within it.

David responded with a casual flick of his wrist, as though brushing away an insect. The universe itself groaned under the pressure as his power manifested—a black, jagged wave of pure nothingness . The Celestial's attack shattered in an instant, fragments of divine energy scattering like glass.

Before the Celestial could react, David's hand moved again. This time, it wasn't a dismissive wave but a deliberate motion, a blade slicing through the fabric of existence.

The cut was silent, yet its effect was deafening. The Celestial's massive form halted mid-motion, its head lolling unnaturally as a thin line of darkness etched itself across its body.

For a moment, the world stood still. Then the Celestial's form cracked open, a grotesque eruption of light and viscera. Its upper half disintegrated into a burst of chaotic energy, while the lower half collapsed into a pile of glowing rubble.

Its agonized scream reverberated across the stars, a sound that seemed to echo into infinity before it was silenced. The lower half of its form disintegrated as well, leaving only a fading pulse of light with spots of purplish energy, before it vanished into nothingness.

The echoes of the Celestial's scream died as it was erased from existence, as though it had never been born.

David lowered his hand, his expression unchanged as the remnants of the Celestial faded into nothingness.

He gestured as if grabbing something and whispered a single word emotionlessly. "Odin."

A golden flash appeared and there he was. The king of Asgard and the proud all father Odin, grabbed by his throat like a two bit thug."

He tried yell as he released his full force, " Unhand me you foul monster. I am the ruler of the nine realms!"

David spoke in an icy tone, " Cycle of pain."

What followed was a brutal display of torture. The proud king of Asgard suffered all kinds of torture human mind could imagine. From the viking blood eagle to impalement of Vlad, Tearing apart his limbs by chains and shattering every bone with a hammer .

During this savagery , David whispered gently once, " What is one thousand minus seven ?"

Odin, with tears and snot running his face barely replied, " Nine thousand nine hundred and ninety three."

David smiled and nodded . " Good, still sane. Now, keep counting like that. If you miss one, start over , but the torture will start over again too." To which, Odin could only cry out in pain and keep counting.

Time was stopped within the golden field created by David. So all of that happened in a moment within the universe . But to Odin, after an eternity of pain and suffering, all he could utter was three words in a begging tone , "end me please ."

David waved his hand with nonchalance, and the proud king of Asgard exploded into a viscera of blood and gore. He softly muttered as some of the blood spattered against his barrier, " This was for her."

The silence that followed was short-lived. The space surrounding him split open, and more Celestials descended.

Their forms were monstrous, each uniquely twisted in its design, yet all radiated the same oppressive weight of cosmic might. They surrounded David, their voices a deafening cacophony of rage and fear.

"You have gone too far, mortal!" one bellowed.

"You will be erased for this blasphemy!" roared another.

David's gaze swept over them, cold and merciless. His power surged, dark and gold tendrils of energy weaving around him like a living storm. The Celestials unleashed their fury, beams of pure energy lancing toward him, warping space and time in their wake.

The world exploded into chaos.

David moved through the devastation with the precision of a predator, each motion deliberate and deadly. He caught one of the energy beams with his bare hand, absorbing its power before twisting it back toward its source.

The Celestial screamed as the attack tore through its chest, leaving a gaping, smoking wound as his body was twisted into a black hole of nothingness, vanishing with any trace.

Another Celestial charged him, its colossal fist shattering the ground as it swung downward. David sidestepped effortlessly, his hand cutting upward in a sharp arc. The Celestial's arm fell away, severed cleanly at the shoulder.

It staggered back, cosmic energy pouring from the wounds like a leaky bucket, before David finished it with a crushing wave of force that obliterated its torso. It's head and limb splattred across a nearby asteroid, it's face still contorted in horror and unwillingness.

The remaining ones raised their hands, their power flooding the cosmos, ready to seal him away, to bend the very fabric of reality and smother him beneath their collective force.

But David's eyes, cold and merciless, burned with an unfathomable fury. He raised his other hand, and in a sudden explosion of force, their combined efforts were effortlessly shattered.

The Celestials—beings whose mere presence could obliterate entire galaxies—found themselves utterly powerless before him.

One by one, they tried to strike, to use their divine weapons, to bring their cosmic wrath to bear, but each attack fell flat against David's overwhelming might.

One by one, the Celestials fell. David's power was relentless, his strikes precise and brutal. He tore through their defenses like paper, reducing the once-mighty architects of existence to broken, twitching remnants.

The last of them stood trembling, its massive frame riddled with cracks and glowing fissures. "Stay Away! You are that monster," it hissed, its voice filled with a mix of terror and disbelief.

David stepped closer, his eyes glowing with cold fury. "No, little bacteria ," he said softly, his voice like a blade cutting through the air. "I am your end."

With a final, devastating gesture, the Celestial was erased.

"Now this…. this does put a smile on my face." David gave out a heartless laugh.

The void around him fell silent once more, the stars dimming as if recoiling from the carnage. But the respite was short-lived. A new presence filled the void, one colder and more calculating.

Galactus.

The Devourer of Worlds descended, his towering, armored form dwarfing even the largest of the Celestials. His gaze, sharp and analytical, swept over the scene of destruction.

"You have disrupted the balance," Galactus intoned, his voice mechanical and emotionless. "I am here to end your rampage, David . Your existence threatens the universe itself."

David turned to face the Devourer, his expression unreadable. "Balance," he said bitterly. "You speak of balance, yet you exist to consume and destroy. You're no different from the rest of the ants."

Galactus raised a hand, energy coalescing into a massive sphere of destruction. "I am the balancer of worlds. You are not thinking straight. And I will stop you."

The sphere surged forward, a cataclysmic force that tore through the fabric of reality itself. But David didn't flinch. With a thought, the sphere shattered, its energy dissolving into harmless sparks.

Galactus stepped back, his expressionless face betraying a moment of hesitation. David raised his hand, his power surging in response. The air grew thick with tension as the two forces clashed, but the outcome was inevitable.

With a single, devastating motion, David unleashed a torrent of energy that consumed Galactus entirely. His massive form crumbled, disintegrating into cosmic dust, leaving no trace of the Devourer behind.

David whispered slowly, " This universe no longer needs to exist."

He then clenched his fist and spoke emotionlessly, "Before creation, comes annihilation. Disappear into nothingness."

The universe groaned under the weight of its destruction, the very fabric of reality beginning to tear apart, spiraling toward oblivion. Everything, everywhere were enveloped in the nothingness that erased their very existence slowly . All living beings roared in agony.

As the last of the stars faded into the nothingness , David stood at the center of the void, his heart pounding with dark satisfaction.

His mind, though, whispered a different tale. A voice cold and enticing slithered through the corridors of his thoughts.

'Let go,' the voice of Nihilty murmured, a soft caress in the silence. 'Destroy all of it. Wipe it all clean. The worlds should all end. You are the end.'

David's gaze darkened as he heard the whispers grow louder, like a million voices calling to him from the void. His power surged in response, and the thought of erasing everything—the multiverse, existence itself—seemed so simple and appealing .

The temptation to let go of the pain, the guilt, to embrace the sweet release of nothingness gnawed at his mind.

But as his power swelled, threatening to break the chains of all that remained, a presence intervened—an entity unlike any other, its appearance transcending understanding. The Living Tribunal.

The Tribunal's many faces gazed at him, an inscrutable expression of ancient wisdom and sorrow. Its forms flickered like a mirage, an embodiment of cosmic balance, an eternal sentinel standing between chaos and order.

"Enough," it said, its voice calm, carrying the weight of countless realities. "You are on the edge of chaos , David. The line you walk is fragile, and should you fall, all will be lost."

David, his mind clouded with rage and despair, turned toward the Tribunal, his eyes wild and unrestrained. "What do you want from me now ?" he snarled.

"What is left here ? What more could I possibly destroy after all of this? After what I've lost? A man I acknowledged as a true friend, a lover who wanted only to enjoy a warm family. There is nothing left of them, nor the universe . I've destroyed it all. I can destroy everything."

The Tribunal's faces regarded him with the quiet sadness of someone who had seen the end of countless worlds. "No," it said gently.

"there is more than destruction, David. You cannot simply erase all that you are. The memories, the feelings—they are what define you. Even the ones lost are worth something. Remember what you told her, to cherish life. Will you go against your own words?"

David's anger flared again. "What do you know of loss? Of pain? Of watching everything crumble before you, knowing that no matter what you do, you can never undo it? You cannot bring back even someone precious to you."

The Tribunal remained silent, then extended one of its hands, pulling something from the void. It was a small shard of light, pulsing with energy, an object that seemed so fragile, yet it hummed with an aura of profound significance.

"This," the Tribunal said softly, "is a memory shard. It contains the memories of her—Hela, from the universe you destroyed. It is a memory of the life she lived, the version of her that was lost."

David's fingers twitched as the shard was offered to him. His eyes, filled with fury, fixed upon it. "I don't need this," he spat, his voice low and bitter. "She's gone. The Hela I knew, the one I loved—she's gone. And no matter what this shard holds, it won't bring her back. She'll never be the same."

The Tribunal's faces flickered in quiet understanding. "No," it said. "She will not be the same. But perhaps you can plant this memory in the Hela of your universe. You can create new memories for her—give her a chance at a different future, a different path. Maybe... this is your way to redeem something from all that was lost."

David stared at the shard, the weight of the Tribunal's words pressing down on him. He closed his eyes, taking a long, shuddering breath.

The emptiness in his heart felt as though it would swallow him whole. His hands clenched, and for a long moment, he considered it—the possibility of redemption, of undoing the damage, of trying to recreate something new.

But he shook his head, a bitter smile curling his lips. "No," he whispered coldly, his voice sharp like a blade.

"Even if I planted this in her mind, she wouldn't be the same person. She is gone. The person I knew, the one I cherished... she's lost to me forever. And no memory shard will change that. Nor will I brainwash a version of her. "

The Tribunal's many faces regarded him with quiet, ancient wisdom. "Then keep her in your heart, David," he said softly.

"Cherish the version of her that you knew. No matter how much the multiverse changes, some memories are worth holding onto. You must learn to live with the ones you've lost, and cherish the ones you still have ."

David stood in silence, the shard still in his hand, his gaze distant. He let the light slip from his fingers, watching it dissolve into nothingness. A cold wind seemed to pass through his chest, a hollow feeling settling deep within.

"I will," he said softly, the words bitter and final. "I'll keep her in my heart. No one can take that from me."

The Tribunal nodded, its many faces reflecting the eternal sadness of all the universes it had witnessed. It gave one final, glance as David turned his back, his form dissolving into the endless void.

He muttered to himself once David was gone, " She was a good woman. Thankfully, she realized the consequences, and never revealed that truth before death. She probably knew, if He realized the true depth of his loss, he might truly lose control. That would have probably ended me as well, along with half the multiverse."

Living Tribunal, the judge of multiverse, sighed and thought to himself, " Despite his strength, he holds a bit of humanity within him, which is a good thing in most cases, but not this one. After all, which human can stay normal after knowing he not only lost a dear friend and a lover, but also his unborn son."

And with that the multiverse continued on their , unknowing of the darkness that lingered just beyond its edge. One that would soon engulf it in another war.
