Chapter 64: Chapter 64 : Fight
-
**Community Apartment Building**
**Inside the Elevator**
Wanda raised her head slightly, watching the monitor from the corner of her eye. The numbers were steadily decreasing, and she couldn't help but feel her heart tighten.
She clenched her small, pale hands and took a deep breath.
*Witch, take it easy.*
Finn, standing beside her, noticed her unease. He reached out, his warm, steady hand gently enclosing her cold fingers. His voice was soft.
"Most people in this town are good people, Wanda. They won't just listen to rumors."
Feeling the warmth of his palm, Wanda's nervousness eased slightly.
"No matter what happens… as long as someone who cares is with you, things always feel a little better."
**Ding!**
When the display reached **1**, the elevator doors slid open.
"Oh, shit…"
Josh stood outside, clearly waiting for the elevator. The moment he saw Finn and Wanda, he froze. His expression flickered—surprise, then something close to fear.
Finn noticed the hesitation in his face and cleared his throat.
"Ahem. Josh."
Snapped from his daze, Josh blinked rapidly before offering an awkward greeting.
"Sorry, uh… It's been a while. I didn't know what to say for a second…"
Finn gave him a small nod, understanding. Josh wasn't usually one to struggle for words. If he wasn't speaking much now, it wasn't because of politeness—it was fear.
To avoid Wanda overthinking it, Finn quickly nudged Josh inside the elevator and stepped out with her.
**Outside the Apartment Building**
The two emerged from the dim lobby onto the street, bathed in the golden afterglow of sunset. A gentle breeze brushed against their faces.
It was the kind of crisp, refreshing autumn evening that should make someone feel lighter.
But Wanda's gaze remained clouded with melancholy.
She looked at Finn. "…Josh is afraid of me, isn't he?"
"Probably," Finn admitted. "But can you blame him? You *are* the strongest Avenger. He used to think it was Thor."
His tone was teasing, but his meaning was clear. He wasn't denying the truth—just trying to make her feel better.
Wanda frowned slightly. "I've never actually fought Thor. How do you know who's stronger?"
She wasn't entirely sure if she could beat him. After all, Thor was an Asgardian god, powerful and almost untouchable.
Finn smirked. "Witch, trust me—Thor wouldn't stand a chance."
"Why?"
He pinched her cheek lightly. "Because a hardworking witch is way better than a lazy shut-in."
Wanda rolled her eyes, rubbing her face where he touched.
She didn't fully believe him, but she appreciated the sentiment.
Besides, he wasn't *entirely* wrong.
The Thor of *this* timeline was still… well, overweight. It would be a while before he got back in shape. At this stage, he wouldn't last long against the Scarlet Witch.
And once Wanda truly mastered the *Darkhold*?
Finn didn't even want to imagine what she'd be capable of then.
"I don't do much these days except study the *Darkhold*," Wanda murmured, as if trying to convince herself.
Finn chuckled. "Yeah, and soon, no one will be able to match you."
She exhaled, shaking her head. "…You really know how to talk."
"Of course. It's one of my best talents."
**The Restaurant**
Before they knew it, they'd arrived at a small restaurant tucked into a corner of the food district.
It wasn't too crowded tonight—probably because it was a rest day. Most people preferred to stay home with their families.
Finn and Wanda picked a table in the corner and ordered their usual dishes, along with a couple of new ones from the restaurant's updated menu.
The two ate as they always did—talking, sharing food.
But something was different.
It wasn't the conversation. It wasn't the food.
It was the atmosphere.
From the moment they sat down, people kept *staring*.
The waiters. The front desk. The customers.
Even people walking past the window paused to gawk.
Some who had planned to eat at the restaurant stopped at the door, hesitated, then turned away.
No new customers came in.
Only people watching, like they were some kind of exhibit at a zoo.
Their expressions ranged from curiosity to fear to outright disgust.
Wanda ignored them, focusing on her food.
Finn, however, felt his chest tighten. His grip on his chopsticks became rigid.
"…Wanda."
She didn't look up.
Instead, she picked up a piece and dropped it into his plate.
"The new dish is good. Try it. You can make it for me later."
Her tone was casual, almost indifferent.
Finn sighed, taking a bite. It was good—but he couldn't enjoy it.
"Wanda, don't pretend it doesn't bother you," he said quietly.
She finally looked up, wiping her mouth with a napkin.
"I *don't* care, Finn," she said simply. "Whatever they think, whatever they say… it doesn't matter."
"…Do you really mean that?"
She hesitated. Then nodded.
"I don't know," she admitted. "But I *am* innocent. I didn't do anything. So why should I feel guilty?"
Finn's expression softened.
She had a point.
She hadn't *done* anything.
People just needed someone to blame.
And Wanda had become the perfect target.
**On the Way Back**
They left the restaurant, stepping back into the cool night air.
Streetlights flickered on, casting pools of golden light onto the sidewalk.
Finn chose a quieter path home, avoiding the main roads. He didn't want Wanda to go through that again.
But no matter how empty a street seemed, people were still there.
Some crossed the road to avoid them.
Others whispered.
A few braver ones—the kind who lived for drama—openly pointed.
And then there were the kids.
A small group, standing at a distance, calling out slurs like they were jokes.
Finn clenched his fists. His body tensed.
Wanda placed a hand on his arm.
"Let it go."
His jaw tightened.
"…Fine."
But as they passed an alleyway, low voices caught his attention.
"…That's her?"
"Damn… say what you want, but that witch has a *hell* of a body."
"Keep your voice down, dumbass! You want her to snap your neck?"
"Hah! Please. The world's watching her now. She's under a microscope. She wouldn't *dare* touch us."
Finn stopped walking.
His face darkened.
"Wanda," he said quietly. "Wait here."
"…Finn?"
Before she could react, his hand slipped from hers, and he turned toward the alley.
The group of men barely noticed him at first.
One of them smirked. "Oh look, her little boyfriend's here."
The others laughed.
"A guy like you probably can't even handle a woman like that," one sneered.
"That's why she went after Peter Parker," another chuckled. "Bet *he*—"
**CRACK!**
Finn's fist connected with the man's jaw, the impact sharp and brutal.
The alley erupted with noise.
Finn didn't stop.
He didn't *want* to stop.
Because no matter how calm he usually was—
No man could tolerate someone talking about his woman like that.
