Chapter 13: Chapter 12
After the kill, Russell didn't relax; instead, his nerves tightened even more. He was 10,000 meters in the air, falling fast. With air resistance, he estimated he had about three minutes before hitting the ground—if he couldn't find a solution by then, not even the combined strength of the Extremis virus and super-serum would save him from becoming a lifeless heap.
Now, it was all down to luck.
Just then, the system voice echoed in his mind:
[Looting terms completed!]
[Magic (Green)]
A reserve of magic energy (36 units), converted to pure energy.
[Magic Knowledge (Green and Purple)]
An uncontaminated portion of Baron Mordo's magic knowledge.
[Mystical Spell - Vishanti Holy Sword (Purple)]
Summons a holy sword imbued with positive energy. Its strength depends on the supplied energy.Weakness Override: No need for consent from the Vishanti; it can be cast with the user's energy alone.
[Spell - Seraphim Shield (Green and Purple)]
A full-defense spell, its durability based on the magic energy supplied.
[Spell - Rage (Green)]
Boosts strength and agility by threefold.Weakness Offset: With the Heart of the Furnace, spells under half an hour don't induce post-cast fatigue.
[Spell - Energy Whip (White and Green)]
Creates a durable energy whip.
[Spell - Mirror Space (Purple and Gold)]
Forms an independent mirror dimension. Its strength depends on the user.Warning: Using this in the void could cause entrapment in negative or chaotic dimensions. Use with caution.
[Close Combat (White)]
Basic combat skills.
[Witchcraft - Sacrifice (Purple)]
Allows sacrifice of flesh to unknown higher entities in exchange for power, knowledge, or secrets, though with a high risk of soul corruption.
[Human Anatomy (White)]
Detailed understanding of human anatomy.
[Secret Spell - Soul Extraction]
Completely extracts a soul while leaving the body alive.Note: This technique is unique; it cannot be powered solely by pure energy and is marked by demonic influence.
[Spell - Weapon Construction (Green)]
Forms cold weapons using magic energy.
[Spell - Teleportation (Purple)]
Opens portals using a Sling Ring.Note: This spell has upgrade potential.
Russell felt a rush of excitement, then frustration as he realized he'd need a Sling Ring to cast the portal spell. So close!
Then, the system continued:
[Secret Spell - Fire of Faldin]
Summons powerful green flames that can purify negative states and neutralize binding spells.Warning: This summons energy from an extradimensional race and cannot be used in the void.
Russell sighed. A great spell, but useless here. If only I could use it to fly…
The system's voice interrupted again.
[Magic Shock (White)]
Releases a basic magic shockwave.
[All looting is complete. Load entries?]
Ecstatic, Russell commanded, "Load!"
With Magic Shock, he finally had a way out! Without it, he would have had to rely on the Seraphim Shield to survive the impact.
Instantly, the entries loaded. Russell pointed his hands downward and released a transparent shockwave. His descent slowed momentarily, but he soon began falling again.
It worked!
Repeating the action, he created a pattern: fall, recoil, fall. His 10,000-meter drop grew shorter and shorter.
After over ten minutes, with one last intense shockwave, he crashed into a dry riverbed below.
"Cough…cough…" Russell gasped, pain radiating through his body. If I were an ordinary man, that would've killed me.
But thanks to his enhanced physique and the Extremis virus, his injuries were rapidly healing. Within minutes, he stood up, grinning.
He punched the air triumphantly, laughing. If Mordo's hands hadn't been disabled, if I hadn't plundered Magic Shock at the last second… I'd be dead!
But in the end, he had won.
High risk, high reward. Baron Mordo's spells had filled gaps in Russell's abilities, giving him a range of magical attacks and defensive skills. And beyond the spells and magic power, he noticed something else.
Not far away, a quiet cave entrance. Mordo had likely left a portal open nearby, confident his trap would finish off any intruder. But Russell was alive, and now, he'd claim whatever trophies Mordo left behind.
Smiling, he murmured, "What an unexpected prize," and strode toward the cave, already planning a gift for the two variants who had yet to return.
