Marvel: I can learn anything

Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Changes

After teaching John the knowledge related to gene implantation technology, Ian left the laboratory.

Elsa, Selena, and the others didn't stay in the lab either. They weren't interested in research and were only concerned about Ian.

Returning to the little home that had been left vacant for half a year, Ian lay on the sofa and asked, "Has anything major happened while I was gone?"

"Recently, the world situation has been quite stable, but mutant crimes have noticeably increased!" Elsa answered while opening a bottle of wine.

Mutant crimes are different from regular crimes. Their destructive power is generally much larger, and regular police can't handle them.

The national security departments do have the ability to suppress mutant criminals, but their actions only cause even bigger commotions.

"Mutant crimes? Didn't the X-Men handle them?" Ian asked in confusion.

In the past, it was the X-Men who handled these matters, and with the X-Men's deterrence, mutants generally didn't dare to break the law easily.

"Professor X is no longer around so the X-Men's effectiveness has greatly decreased, and their deterrence power has become weaker. They can't handle it anymore!" Elsa replied.

"What about the Brotherhood Mutants? Magneto should be able to restrain mutants, right?" Ian asked again.

Magneto had reached an understanding with Congress, and not only did the Brotherhood transition from the shadows to the light, but restraining mutants was also one of their duties.

Moreover, the Brotherhood Mutants is trying to build their homeland, so they must be short of manpower. Magneto probably wouldn't mind having more hands to help.

"The Brotherhood is busy with infrastructure on their island, and Magneto doesn't have time to manage external matters. Moreover, it seems the Brotherhood doesn't welcome these mutant criminals right now," Elsa explained.

"It seems Magneto is truly trying to clear his name!"

Ian could understand Magneto's thinking and admired his boldness.

At the same time, Ian also guessed Elsa's thoughts: "You want the action team to step in?"

The academy's action team's external missions usually involve rescuing newly awakened mutant children, and such missions rarely require direct combat. Elsa probably wanted them to have some real-world combat experience.

Elsa handed Ian a glass of wine and frankly admitted, "Exactly! They've been training for so long and need some real combat opportunities to validate their training results."

"I agree!" Ian didn't hesitate and directly agreed, "You can arrange it however you like!"

Hearing Ian's agreement, Elsa smiled, "The action team is ready, and the government has already arranged things. They're just waiting for you!"

Ian felt something was off in Elsa's tone and put down his wine glass, asking, "Waiting for me to do what? Do I have to take action personally?"

He was a level 5 mutant, Someone with the power to destroy an entire small country if he works just a little bit harder. It would be beneath him to personally deal with ordinary mutant criminals.

Elsa clearly guessed Ian would refuse and asked again, "The action team lacks an experienced leader. Can't you trust them if they follow you?"

This time, Elsa was not wrong. The academy's action team really did lack experience—both in combat and in social situations.

The most terrifying thing in this world was never X abilities, but the human heart!

Though the action team members were well-trained, they were all under twenty, and none of them had ever participated in real combat missions.

The few times they'd participated in missions, such as breaking into underground laboratories researching mutants, Ian had personally led the team, and they had almost no opportunities to take action.

"An experienced leader?" Ian instantly thought of a suitable person.

"You can go find Selena and ask her to convince Raven. Raven's experience is more than enough."

With Raven's personality, she probably wouldn't refuse, and she was a seasoned veteran who knew all the ins and outs. If she led the team, even if they were exposed to the harshness of society, they wouldn't be at a disadvantage.

"Raven's experience is certainly enough, but her strength might not be sufficient. What if we encounter an accident?" Elsa was still reluctant to give up.

Ian responded confidently, "What accidents? How many mutants on Earth have power above level four? Which one of them would dare to attack my people?"

Except for those rare, hidden ancient beings, Ian's power was practically at the top on Earth. No one dared to provoke him.

Furthermore, the action team's mission to handle mutant criminals was an internal mutant affair, and other factions had no reason to interfere.

The Supreme Sorcerer hadn't told Ian too many secrets, but from his words, Ian could tell that mutants were not a newly emerging force without any foundation. They had been around for a long time. Any faction with some background wouldn't easily intervene in internal mutant matters.

In the end, Ian still managed to convince Elsa!

Elsa had no choice but to settle for second best and planned to follow Ian's suggestion and invite Raven.

However, when she found Selena, Raven was nowhere to be seen.

"Where's Raven? Why didn't I see her?" Elsa asked Selena.

"She said she had something to do. She left the academy half an hour ago!" Selena answered.

This answer was a bit unexpected for Elsa, and it puzzled her. Raven had never left since she arrived, so why would she leave now?

"Where did she go? When will she be back?"

"Raven probably went to New York. As for when she'll be back, I didn't ask!" Selena answered.

In fact, Ian had never restricted Raven's comings and goings, so when she left, Selena hadn't asked any questions.

Even knowing that Raven had gone to New York was just Selena's guess.

"What do you need Raven for?" Selena asked curiously.

"The action team needs a practical instructor!" Elsa didn't hide it.

"She shouldn't refuse. When she comes back, I'll ask her for you!"

After spending so many years together, Selena thought she knew Raven well. Although Raven liked the atmosphere at the mutant academy, she still couldn't sit still after staying for too long.

...

Raven's purpose was clear. After arriving in New York, she went straight to Peter Parker's house.

However, Raven didn't visit directly. Instead, she used a key to stay in the house next to Peter Parker's.

After returning to the main world, this house had lost its use, and Ian had given the key to Raven at that time.

Once she tidied up the house, she planned to visit Peter Parker's uncle and aunt that night under the guise of being a neighbor.

In the Spider-Man world, Ian had made a joke, but Raven took it seriously and was really planning to train little Spider-Man from a young age.

However, when she saw Peter Parker again, she was greatly surprised.

At this moment, Peter Parker was not the previous ten-year-old child; now, he was at most seven or eight years old.

There was no doubt that this must be the result of the world fusion, which disrupted his timeline.

Once she figured it out, Raven quickly calmed down and didn't show any abnormal reactions.

She continued with her original plan and, while chatting, quietly activated the X-gene testing instrument.

The result was good. Peter indeed had the X-gene in his body.

After the world fusion, Spider-Man had become a mutant. This change made more sense and matched Raven's expectations.

Little Spider-Man was a mutant, and now she had a reason to train him.

But the X-gene in the little Spider-Man hadn't awakened yet, and he was still too young, so Raven's training plan had to be postponed.
