Chapter 15: Osborn and Stark Join Forces
Rody had no idea that Norman Osborn was on the verge of losing everything. The theft of the Green Goblin armor hadn't just put Oscorp in jeopardy it had worsened an already unstable situation.
The loss of crucial military contracts, combined with plummeting investor confidence, had drained Osborn of every ounce of patience and resolve. The actual cost of the missing Goblin tech was insignificant compared to the fact that its core technology had been compromised. In the world of weapons manufacturing, secrecy was as valuable as the weapons themselves.
Oscorp, once a dominant force in the defense industry, was now facing a credibility crisis. A military contractor that couldn't protect its own technology was worthless to the government.
Stocks had been in free fall for days. Shareholders were already aligning behind potential successors, waiting for the right moment to force Osborn out of his own company.
And the worst part? Osborn still had no idea how the thief had bypassed Oscorp's security.
Not even the most skilled cyber-criminals could have silently infiltrated the Goblin armor's encrypted systems. Even SHIELD or HYDRA would have left traces. But this thief? They had not only taken the armor but also disabled its tracking mechanisms without setting off a single alert.
That was what terrified Osborn the most.
At that moment, his secretary walked into the dimly lit office.
"Mr. Osborn, you have a visitor."
Osborn barely looked up from his desk. "Didn't I say I wasn't seeing anyone? Tell those scavengers on the board to go to hell."
The secretary hesitated before saying, "It's Tony Stark."
Osborn's eyes flickered with suspicion. Tony Stark? The timing was too strange. The loss of the Goblin armor was still fresh, and now Stark was at his door?
Something was off.
When Rody entered Osborn's office alongside Tony, he was genuinely surprised by how much the man had changed in just a few days. Osborn usually poised and menacing looked like he hadn't slept in weeks.
Tony had barely stepped forward when Rody interrupted, dropping a metal box onto Osborn's desk with a loud thud.
The action startled both men.
"First of all, as Tony's cousin, I want to personally thank you, Mr. Osborn," Rody said with a smirk. "Your equipment was very useful in helping me save Tony. I should have returned it sooner, but… I made some modifications. So…"
He flipped open the box, revealing the sleek, black Green Goblin armor fully restored.
Osborn blinked. Rody had just admitted without hesitation that he had stolen the armor.
For a moment, Osborn was too stunned to react. Then, regaining his composure, he said coldly, "That's a very… unique way of borrowing. I don't remember giving you permission."
His voice dripped with sarcasm, but Rody remained unfazed. Meanwhile, Tony ever the genius with the emotional intelligence of a brick completely missed the tension in the room.
"It's all in the past," Rody continued, ignoring Osborn's glare. "Tony and I appreciate your 'help,' and today, we've come in good faith."
Osborn studied Tony carefully. Why now? Oscorp was in chaos, and the thief Rody was standing right in front of him, as if daring him to do something about it.
And now, out of nowhere, Stark was extending an olive branch?
It didn't add up.
Forcing himself to remain calm, Osborn leaned back. "Oh? And what kind of 'good faith' are we talking about?"
Seeing that Osborn wasn't outright rejecting them, Rody sighed in relief and nudged Tony forward.
"I was planning to shut down Stark Industries' weapons division," Tony said bluntly, "but Rody suggested another option transferring it to Oscorp. What do you think?"
Osborn's fingers twitched.
For a businessman as ruthless as Norman Osborn, Tony Stark was frustratingly bad at negotiations.
Rody, who already knew the way this conversation was supposed to go, resisted the urge to slap his forehead.
In hindsight, it had been a mistake not to bring Pepper Potts.
As expected, Osborn's expression darkened. "Are you two here to make a fool of me?"
Sensing that things were about to collapse, Rody quickly stepped in.
"Don't misunderstand," he said smoothly. "Tony means that Stark Industries and Oscorp should collaborate. Stark's focus has always been large-scale military hardware missiles, repulsor-based weapons but now, we have a new direction: personal combat armor. And that's where this comes in."
Rody reached into his bag and pulled out a small, glowing Arc Reactor.
He placed it on Osborn's desk.
Osborn's eyes locked onto the reactor. In an instant, all his suspicions took a back seat.
As a scientist, he recognized its potential immediately. A portable, clean, and limitless energy source this was revolutionary. In mere seconds, he grasped what it could mean for Oscorp's future.
That one device shattered much of his doubt.
With trust finally forming between them, the two greatest minds in the military tech industry Tony Stark and Norman Osborn began discussing a partnership.
Rody wiped the sweat from his brow. He had successfully defused the situation, and in the process, swept his theft under the rug. Once the two companies became allies, no one would care about a minor incident of corporate espionage.
Everything proceeded smoothly from there.
Tony announced the closure of Stark Industries' weapons division, shocking the world. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Oscorp discreetly absorbed all of Stark's military contracts, technology, and key personnel.
In return, Tony gained full access to Oscorp's research everything on the Goblin armor and their experimental Super-Soldier Serum. Additionally, the two companies agreed to co-develop the Arc Reactor for commercial use.
Stark Industries would produce the Arc Reactors. Oscorp would handle manufacturing and distribution.
Everyone won.
Osborn regained control of his company. Tony dedicated himself to perfecting the Iron Man armor.
And Rody?
Rody finally had time to investigate something that had been nagging him.
Back when he had first researched Oscorp's archives, he had found an old comic book illustration of a peculiar green sphere one eerily similar to the glass orb he had discovered after arriving in this world.
At the time, Tony's kidnapping had been the priority, so he had ignored it.
But today, at Stark's press conference, he noticed something disturbing.
Obadiah Stane the real villain of Iron Man was standing in the background.
His expression was calm, professional. But Rody, having seen this kind of act before, knew better.
He's furious.
If Rody had the power to read minds, he would probably hear Stane mentally cursing Tony's reckless decision.
Originally, in the movie, Stane had only arranged for Tony's kidnapping. But today, Rody saw something different.
There was something about the way Stane carried himself something that reminded Rody of a bald character from an old Marvel comic.
And if his theory was correct…
Then the terrorists Stane had been dealing with weren't just random mercenaries.
They were The Ten Rings.
The very group that had kidnapped Tony.
And the man pulling the strings… might just be The Mandarin.
Stane was a time bomb.
Even without the comic's hints, Rody had already planned to eliminate him. The only problem? Tony still trusted him.
He needed to find the right time and the right reason to strike.
But before Rody could even think about making his move
Stane struck first.
