Chapter 24: Chapter 24
Anyone who dares to work in this field is a ruthless character.
And the miniature height of Luke's mech—just 1.2 meters—was seriously misleading.
It made people think: This thing can't be that powerful, right?
"Crush it! Open fire!"
The gang leaders on both sides gave the order at the same time.
Did this fool even know who they were? Robbing them? Was he tired of living?
Every gunman in the field turned their weapons around. In an instant, hundreds of people from both sides opened fire on Luke.
Bullets rained down like a storm.
But when they struck the mech's body, they only made a faint ding-dong sound, lacking any real power.
Then, the mech moved.
It took only a few steps to reach the nearest gunmen. With each punch, it sent them flying through the air.
Luke then steered the mech toward his target.
Along the way, he shot down more than a dozen people and picked up several guns.
"Hey, a 98K?"
"What a piece of junk." Luke scoffed, raising his foot and stomping on it.
What year is it? And people are still using 98Ks? Even a scavenger like me can't stand this trash.
When Luke arrived at the location, bullets continued to pour onto his back, but he ignored them. Instead, he turned on the speaker, directing his words at the slender figure hiding in the trench below.
"Good evening, Agent Romanoff. Pretty bold of you to pick this spot. Here to admire the moon?"
Black Widow felt like her luck had been absolute trash lately.
She had been on vacation when she suddenly got assigned to investigate a target.
So, relying on her top-tier spy skills, she successfully infiltrated the notorious Russian mafia, using her Russian background to gain their initial trust.
Tonight, she was supposed to investigate her target. When all hell broke loose, she had been in the middle of interrogating a tied-up mafia member.
Then, a sudden explosion rocked the street nearby. The house beneath her feet trembled.
And right after that—an all-out gunfight erupted outside!
Black Widow instantly assumed she had been exposed.
But when she rushed out, she realized that wasn't the case.
Confused, she scanned the battlefield.
Out of nowhere, the Russian mafia had been ambushed by several rival gangs at the same time.
Now, caught in the center of the chaos, she had no choice but to rely on her extraordinary skills to break through the most intense part of the firefight.
What was supposed to be a routine spy mission had turned into a desperate battle for survival.
She was not happy.
The mission was a bust.
Her top priority now was getting out alive.
But just as she managed to escape one battle, she ran straight into another. Two massive gangs were engaged in an even deadlier crossfire.
What the hell is going on tonight? Are these people insane?
Forced to find cover, she ducked into a secluded spot, waiting for the chaos to die down so she could slip away unnoticed.
Then Luke's mech descended from the sky.
Watching from her hiding spot, she saw the small but deadly machine land.
Her sharp instincts immediately connected the dots.
When the strange voice rang out from the speakers, directly calling her name, Black Widow's heart sank.
Trouble had found her again.
Whoever was in that mech knew her.
"You got the wrong person."
She crouched lower, preparing to slip away.
"Natasha Romanoff, former Soviet spy, born in 1984. Height, 1.70 meters. Weight, 57 kilograms. Measurements—" Luke cleared his throat. "Ahem. Currently working for S.H.I.E.L.D."
Black Widow froze.
She turned back, raising an eyebrow at the mech.
"Who the hell are you? And where are you? Because obviously, you're not inside that thing."
Luke didn't answer. "That's not important," he said, casually jerking a thumb behind himself. "What is important is that those guys just spotted you."
Black Widow gritted her teeth.
Damn it, this is all your fault!
She had been well-hidden, waiting for the perfect moment to escape.
And now? She was completely exposed.
Bullets kept bouncing off Luke's mech with sharp ping-pong sounds.
Realizing their guns were useless, the gangsters switched tactics. A group of them started closing in with heavier weapons.
Luke turned his back to Black Widow. "If you don't wanna die, get on. I'll fly us out."
Black Widow hesitated.
Getting into a strange man's vehicle late at night?
Not a great idea.
But she didn't sense any hostility from him.
And given the situation, her chances of escaping on her own weren't great. Even she couldn't get out of this unscathed.
She clenched her jaw.
Screw it.
With a nimble leap, she jumped out of the trench, grabbed onto the mech's back, and held on tight.
"Hold on," Luke warned.
The mech's boosters ignited, spewing twin jets of fire as it rocketed into the sky.
At 130 meters up, the mech stopped climbing and hovered in place.
Luke seemed to be waiting for something.
Black Widow looked down, her sharp instincts kicking in.
"Are you serious right now?" she snapped. "We're sitting ducks up here!"
Below, the gangsters were already adjusting their strategy.
A few of them hauled out their thick, menacing—
RPGs.
One after another, rocket launchers were raised, aimed right at them.
Black Widow's stomach twisted.
She knew these weapons.
And at this height, they were not safe.
"Shit!"
She regretted getting into this damn mech.
She wanted to get off.
Right now.
Just then, Luke spoke.
"Justice from above!"
Suddenly, two hidden compartments popped open beneath the mech's arms.
In the darkness, it was hard to see what was launched.
But whatever they were, the mech fired 24 of them in just three seconds.
Each object dropped precisely onto a designated target.
And then—
The world exploded.
The entire square—at least a thousand square meters—was engulfed in an intense, blinding glow.
Dazzling white light and strange blue sparks intertwined, flooding every hiding spot.
The RPG gunners?
They were the first to get hit. Swallowed whole by the light.
Then—
BOOM—!
A deafening explosion tore through the night.
It was like thunder crashing in a storm. The entire city shook.
Even 130 meters up, Black Widow felt the impact. Her ears rang from the sheer force of it.
She stared down, mouth open in shock.
When the dust settled—
The square was gone.
All that remained was a massive crater, at least ten meters deep.
