Chapter 21: "Iron Flames and Assassin's Oath"

Flushing, Queens – Stark's Party, Backstage

Ron confirmed that these men were indeed from the Continental Hotel.

Without hesitation, flames flickered into existence in his hand, shaping into a fiery blade.

With a swift motion, he slashed across the necks of the men in black suits.

Though the weapon was made of fire, it was impossibly sharp.

The moment their throats were cut, the flames seared their wounds shut, cauterizing the blood

vessels instantly.

Not a single drop of blood spilled.

Then, with a casual wave of Ron's hand—

The bodies vanished.

John Wick, who had been watching all of this unfold, was left completely stunned.

He met Ron's calm gaze—

And felt his heart tighten.

Everyone knew Tony Stark was Iron Man.

That was no secret.

But Iron Man's brother being a superpowered individual?

That had never even been rumored.

And now he knew.

Motherf—!

He was doomed.

Running from the Continental's assassins was already a nightmare.

But against a supernatural being...?

No—

There wouldn't even be a chase.

He'd already be dead.

As John was spiraling into dread, Ron's voice rang out.

"John Wick."

"I can make sure the Continental Hotel is no longer a threat to you."

"But from today on—"

"You work for me. Drive for me. Be my bodyguard."

John was momentarily stunned.

Halfway through processing it, he instinctively tensed up.

Then, realization hit—

And he was ecstatic.

But in the end, he hesitated.

"Mr. Ron Stark… I may be well-known in the assassin world, but I'm still just an ordinary man…"

Ron's expression remained indifferent.

"If the opportunity arises, I'll make you extraordinary too."

Become extraordinary…?

John's eyes widened in disbelief.

Was that… actually possible?!

"All done."

"That fast?"

"Never call a man 'fast'!"

"Then what should I say?"

"Strong, powerful, and unstoppable."

"Ew~~~!"

Gwen made a disgusted face.

She might not have firsthand experience,

but it's not like her friends were all clueless.

Mary Jane had told her before—

Men always liked to brag about being big, strong, and tough.

She never expected Ron to be the same.

Men...

were seriously lame.

Gwen rolled her eyes.

"By the way, what happened to those guys just now?"

Ron blinked.

"Oh, I sent them away."

Sent them away?

Which way?

Doesn't matter.

They were gone, and that's all that mattered.

Gwen didn't catch the hidden meaning and was still fuming on his behalf.

Her small face was full of righteous anger.

"I should've called my dad."

"Had him come and arrest those guys!"

"How dare they bring weapons to a place like this?!"

"Hahaha!"

Ron burst out laughing.

"If you called Captain Stacy, he'd probably arrest me first."

Gwen's mouth dropped open slightly, confusion all over her face.

"Huh?"

"Why would he arrest you?"

She instinctively looked up—

And caught Ron's teasing gaze.

She froze.

Then, realization dawned on her.

"Hmph~ We're just friends. Why would my dad target you~"

"Just friends?"

"Yeah~ Hm~?!?!"

Gwen was smiling as she spoke—

When suddenly—

Her lips were sealed.

Her eyes widened as Ron's face was suddenly right in front of hers.

Her pupils dilated.

Her mind went completely blank.

Her hands instinctively wanted to push him away—

But she hesitated.

By the time she realized this wasn't the right place for this—

She had already lost all strength.

Her vision blurred.

This…

Is this what Mary Jane meant… by that heart-racing feeling?

Though only a few seconds passed—

To Gwen, it felt like an eternity.

Ron pulled away and stood up straight.

Smiling, he looked down at Gwen.

"So, what about now?"

As soon as their lips parted,

Gwen was still dazed.

Her glistening tongue unconsciously licked her lips.

Then, hearing Ron's words—

Her pretty face instantly turned bright red.

She glared at him.

"Now? Now I should have you arrested!"

"You perv!"

Ron looked around.

Boring party.

Boring people.

No one here was as interesting as Gwen.

"This party sucks."

"Come on, let's go for a walk."

Without waiting for her response, he took her hand and led her outside.

Gwen just stared at their interlocked fingers.

For a moment, she forgot to pull away.

As they walked through the hall, countless people greeted Ron.

He ignored them all.

Until they stepped out of the banquet hall—

A cool breeze brushed past them.

The fresh air cleared Gwen's head.

She quickly pulled her hand away.

"The way you did that so naturally…"

"You must be a total player!"

In just a few seconds,

she had felt way too many emotions.

Ron chuckled.

"Player? Nah, I just have a big heart."

The twins from before didn't count.

The Marvel world was full of stunning women.

It wasn't like he had to fall for every single one.

But—

Since he was here,

since he had the power,

why not give a few unlucky women a safe and stable home?

After all—

If a man has the ability to protect, shouldn't he?

Gwen narrowed her eyes.

"…You sound exactly like a scumbag right now."

Ron smirked.

"Call it what you want. I just believe in taking responsibility."

Gwen folded her arms, giving him a skeptical look.

"Responsibility? More like an excuse."

Ron shrugged.

"Well, responsibility isn't a burden to me."

Gwen let out a dramatic sigh but couldn't help the small smile tugging at her lips.

She didn't want to admit it,

but being with Ron…

Was never boring.
