Chapter 59: Ch-59: Where are you from ?
"You must be insane!" Gwen was now 100% certain that her father's illness was somehow connected to this man.
Clenching her fists, she fought the urge to punch him square in the face.
"When I strategize, I can be overly rational," Matt said with a casual shrug. "For instance, I know you won't reject my offer, and I also know you won't hit me."
He turned his attention to the fight between Black Cat and the ninja.
With a swift motion, Black Cat dodged the ninja's attack and delivered a powerful kick that sent her opponent flying. She followed up with a quick strike, her sharp claws slashing the ninja's chest. Blood spurted from the wound. In a fluid motion, she swung her fist into another ninja's head, the dull thud accompanied by a muffled grunt of pain.
"Impressive," Matt commented, "I've boxed a few times myself, and I have to say, she's got talent. It's a shame she doesn't realize the full potential of her fists."
He turned back to Gwen, issuing an ultimatum. "Now, make your choice—save your father or save a thief who means nothing to you, Miss Gwen."
Gwen's fists clenched tighter as her frustration grew. She wanted to wipe that smug look off Matt's face, but her resolve soon crumbled. If he could truly save her father, could she really refuse?
No, no! I can't attack an innocent person, even for my father's sake.
This went against everything she stood for.
Lowering her head, Gwen's heart was torn with indecision and pain. She wanted nothing more than to save her father, but she knew he wouldn't want her to do it like this.
But if I can't even save the person I love the most, why do I wear this mask?
For the first time, Gwen felt utterly powerless. Is this the price of being a hero?
She took a few deep breaths, trying to calm herself. There has to be another way.
After battling with herself internally, Gwen finally made a decision. She lifted her head, her eyes filled with determination as she faced Matt. "I—"
Before she could finish, a voice cut through the tension.
"Or there's a third option: kill him."
Everyone was startled by the sudden interruption. Gwen turned toward the voice and saw that Spider-Man had appeared in the room.
Dressed in a sleek black suit, the figure exuded mystery, his white eyepieces adding to the intrigue.
Black Cat, still engaged in the fight, was equally stunned to see him. Although she'd heard reports about Spider-Man from the Subway Line 7 incident, she had always been skeptical about his existence—until now.
Matt Murdock, clearly not expecting this new arrival, adjusted his sunglasses as he sized up Spider-Man.
Even the ninjas who had been fighting Black Cat paused in their tracks.
"Spider-Man?!" Matt's voice lost some of its usual calm. His hands gripped his guide stick tighter as he muttered, "Looks like my office is quite the hot spot tonight. Even the legendary Spider-Man decided to drop by."
Feigning a sigh, he added, "Maybe I shouldn't kill Miss Black Cat after all. It's bad luck to harm unexpected guests."
Peter stepped forward, his voice altered so Gwen wouldn't recognize him. "Do you really think I'm just a guest?"
"Of course," Matt replied, smiling. "Everyone here tonight is a guest, though I wasn't exactly expecting you."
"Too bad," Peter said, shaking his head. "I'm not the kind of guest you welcome."
Before Matt could react, Peter was already in motion. His body blurred, moving with impossible speed.
Matt's pupils shrank as Peter appeared right in front of him, gripping his neck with his right hand. Instinctively, Matt raised his guide stick to defend himself.
Snap!
The stick broke in Peter's exoskeleton-covered hand. With unrelenting force, Peter's fist slammed into Matt's chest. The impact was like a lightning strike—pain shot through Matt's body, paralyzing his nerves.
The force of the blow sent Matt crashing to the ground, his back slamming hard against the floor. His sunglasses flew off, and his chest heaved with pain.
For a brief moment, the room fell silent, everyone stunned by Peter's sudden and brutal attack.
Matt clutched his chest, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth. His mind raced in disbelief. How did he move so fast? I couldn't even sense it.
Black Cat, equally shocked, shared Matt's thoughts. How is he so fast?
Peter, seemingly unfazed, had taken down his enemies effortlessly. His swift and precise movements left Gwen frozen in place, her mind unable to process what had just happened.
Peter kicked a groaning ninja aside and focused his attention back on Matt.
"You—" Matt coughed, struggling to catch his breath. "We've never had a direct conflict, have we? Or are you one of those heroes driven by a sense of justice?"
Desperate, Matt attempted to sway Peter with his words.
"Justice?" Peter said with a cold smile, walking slowly toward Matt. "That has nothing to do with me."
Grabbing Matt by the collar, Peter lifted him off the ground, his masked face inches from Matt's. "I'm only here to return a favor."
As he spoke, he glanced at Gwen, who immediately recalled the moment on the platform when she had tried to save him.
