Chapter 203: Chapter 203: Men in Black
"You… you're the owner here?"
Sam felt like he'd been struck by lightning. This was just too unbelievable.
A young man who should be shining in a university lecture hall was, in reality, someone capable of influencing the entire universe? If you told this to a random person on the street, who in their right mind would believe it?
At this moment, Cap and Bucky finally burst into laughter and walked over. One of them patted Sam on the shoulder and said, "Yep, he's the owner here. And not just that—he's also our Supreme Commander of the Green Lantern Corps. Don't be fooled by his looks; he's incredibly reliable."
Han Yu rolled his eyes. "What do you mean 'don't be fooled by his looks'? Do I look that unimpressive?"
Bucky chuckled awkwardly and quickly clarified, "Of course not! I meant that you just look too young—young and incredibly accomplished!"
Ever since the Green Lantern Corps was formed, Bucky had started addressing Han Yu as "Commander," and by now, he had gotten completely used to it.
Han Yu didn't bother arguing with him and instead asked, "How's your department recruitment going?"
Seeing that Han Yu was getting down to business, Bucky thought for a moment before responding, "Not bad. I reached out to some assassin contacts—guys who have worked with me before and are now looking to retire. Quite a few of them agreed to join, while others said they'd think about it. As of now, we've locked in six people."
Han Yu nodded in satisfaction. That number was a good start. With two-man teams, Bucky could oversee operations, which was enough to handle Earth's internal affairs for the time being.
After all, most supernatural incidents on Earth were still under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s surveillance. The Green Lantern Corps only needed to gradually take over.
"Commander, can we get an official name for our department?" Bucky asked. "It's kinda awkward when I introduce the team without a name."
Han Yu thought for a moment and said, "Let's call it… Men in Black. Your team is always dressed in black and operates in silence, handling matters discreetly to avoid unnecessary chaos. A flashy approach doesn't suit your department."
Bucky nodded enthusiastically. At this point, he was beyond grateful to Han Yu. If it weren't for him, he wouldn't have had a chance to walk the right path again.
He deeply appreciated this opportunity. As the former Winter Soldier, he had been a brainwashed assassin for Hydra. Even though his actions were not his own choice, the world didn't see it that way.
When Cap worked to dismantle Hydra, he had publicly released their entire roster within S.H.I.E.L.D.—including Bucky's name.
Cap didn't shield him from the truth. People had the right to know.
Since then, Bucky had worked tirelessly within S.H.I.E.L.D., hoping to make amends through his actions.
But new good deeds couldn't erase old grudges. Even if people said they were fine with it, deep down, there was always a lingering resentment. That resentment created distance, and that distance eventually became an unbridgeable gap.
The only reason no one had put a bullet in Bucky's head was because Cap had been constantly mediating, trying to ease tensions. But nothing seemed to work. The pain of losing a friend or a loved one wasn't something that could be resolved with a few words.
Cap and Bucky had no choice but to take things slow.
As the three men continued their conversation, Sam, who had initially found it all unbelievable, slowly began to accept it.
After all, judging by how comfortably they were talking, they clearly knew each other well.
Still, he stood there stiffly for a while, silently digesting the fact that Han Yu was the Supreme Commander of the Green Lantern Corps.
The three of them had been chatting for quite some time when Cap suddenly snapped back to reality. Noticing Sam's silence, he quickly pulled him closer and turned to Han Yu.
"I almost forgot about him—I wanted to introduce him to you this time."
Cap glanced at the man beside him and said, "His name is Sam. I saw him today standing up for a woman whose bag was snatched, and in the process, he got shot. Just as I was about to step in and save him, a beam of light streaked down from the sky—he was chosen by a Green Lantern ring. So we figured we'd bring him to you and see if he qualifies."
Hearing this, Han Yu raised an eyebrow. With just a single glance, he could read the memories stored within the Green Lantern ring that had chosen Sam. He immediately understood why it had selected him.
It was because of his kindness and willingness to stand up for others.
Han Yu wasn't unfamiliar with Sam. In the original timeline, he was supposed to be Cap's close partner, later joining the Avengers and earning the title of "Falcon."
However, due to Han Yu's intervention, he had prevented the Sokovia Accords incident—the event that originally caused the Avengers to split. As a result, Cap and Falcon never had the chance to meet under the same circumstances, leading to unexpected changes.
Yet, against all odds, the two still ended up meeting and getting to know each other. This surprised Han Yu—fate truly worked in mysterious ways.
Han Yu chuckled and said, "I think it's great. You can always trust the Green Lantern rings' judgment. In the future, when someone gets chosen, you don't have to bring them to me for approval—just assess them yourselves."
As the Green Lantern Corps expanded, its numbers would reach the thousands. Once Earth's safety was fully secured, Han Yu planned to spread the Corps' influence outward, extending their reach until the entire universe was under surveillance.
A thousand-strong Green Lantern Corps—if it harbored ill intentions—would be an unstoppable force, capable of ruling the universe.
Heaven or hell, order or chaos—it all depended on Han Yu's decisions.
"Oh, by the way," Cap added, "you asked me to find a place to establish a Green Lantern Corps base. I found one, and construction can begin in the next few days."
Han Yu had privately asked Cap to locate a suitable site for the Corps' headquarters. With Earth serving as the Corps' central hub, a primary base was essential.
It would serve as a gathering point for meetings, mission briefings, energy replenishment, and combat training.
"Oh? You already found one?"
Han Yu was a bit surprised. He had only brought this up with Cap a day and a half ago, and the fact that he had already secured a location was impressive. His efficiency was commendable.
With a simple motion of his fingers, he pinched the air, and in an instant, a black-and-gold credit card materialized between them. He handed it to Cap and said, "Use the money on this card for all base-related expenses. Spend whatever is necessary—don't skimp on materials. Whatever we use, make sure it's the best and most suitable."
Neither Cap nor Bucky found anything unusual about this display of ability. Cap simply took the card and carefully placed it in his pocket.
Sam, on the other hand, was utterly stunned, his eyes widening in disbelief. He rubbed his eyes and stammered, "Wait… what just happened? Where did that credit card come from?"
Seeing the newcomer's shock, Han Yu, Cap, and Bucky exchanged glances before bursting into laughter. Bucky even patted Sam's shoulder and grinned. "New guy, you've got a lot more surprises coming your way. This is just standard procedure. You haven't even seen what our Supreme Commander is truly capable of!"
